1 . One year after WildAid started its new program to protect ocean wildlife in China, Chinese world-famous pianist Lang Lang has joined the latest public campaign (运动), “Play Your Part in the Oceans Symphony” on Friday.

The campaign video public service announcement (PSA) impressed the public with Lang Lang playing his song “Stay”, greatly calling attention to the beauty and importance of protecting the marine life in China’s waters such as whale sharks, sea turtles, dolphins and spotted seals.

A new series of messages calls on the public to help protect marine biodiversity (生物多样性) by supporting marine protected areas (MPAs) and the protection of ocean wildlife. The campaign video PSA and billboards, which will be displayed across China, were released (发布) at a Beijing press event hosted by WildAid, with China Green Carbon Foundation and the First Institute of Oceanography of the Ministry of Natural Resources (FIO) as key partners.

Ranked among “the world’s 100 most influential people” by Time magazine, Lang Lang has served as WildAid ambassador for more than 12 years, contributed to protecting endangered wildlife and nature. Speaking at the event he said, “we can all play our part in protecting our oceans by taking simple steps, such as refusing to eat endangered wildlife such as sea turtles, reporting illegal wildlife trade, and reducing the use of single-use plastics.”

WildAid also designed online activities for this campaign in which Lang Lang invites users to re-create his song “Stay” through the two most popular social platforms in China: Weibo and Tik Tok.

Lang Lang joined this campaign following a survey report conducted by WildAid and FIO that discusses public awareness of MPAs and marine biodiversity in China.

The report finds that more than 80% of the survey takers believe that MPAs are very important, but their understanding of the functions of MPAs is low. More than half do not know the term “marine biodiversity” and have not received enough information about marine protection.

“Play Your Part in the Oceans Symphony” campaign PSA and billboards will be given out at outdoor places across China, reaching millions of viewers.

文章大意:这是一篇记叙文。文章主要描述了四次获得格莱美奖的音乐人Taylor Swift是怎样在沮丧时刻,采取乐观积极的态度,创作歌曲,从而获得成功的。

4 . From the outside, Taylor Swift — an 11-time Grammy Award winner with 55.5 million monthly online listeners — seems to be used to success.

But at New York University’s graduation ceremony in May of 2022, the 32-year-old country music singer-songwriter told her schoolmates that her achievements were really a result of something else: moments of rejection (否决). “The times I was told ‘no’ or wasn’t included, wasn’t chosen, didn’t win-looking back, it really feels like those moments were as important as. If not more significant than, the moments I was told ‘yes.’ ” Swift said.

Swift said those depressing moments made her feel “hopelessly lonely” growing up, starting at a very young age. As a kid, she said, she would be angry about not getting invited to sleepovers (在外过夜). She remembered connecting with music managers at age 13, and being told that “only 35-year-old housewives listen to country music.”

Her responses to those moments were impressive. Alone in her room, she’d write songs “that would get me a ticket somewhere else.” She posted songs online and connected with other teenage country fans online.

Working on her music and herself — instead of thinking about being told “no” — paid off. She signed a development deal at age 13, had a songwriting contract a year later and a recording contract by age 15, released her first album at age 16, and won four Grammys at age 20 in 2010.

Her advice to the class of 2022: Learn to live with those discouraging experiences. “My experience has been that my mistakes led to the best things in my life,” she said. “And being embarrassed when you mess up? It’s part of the human experience. Getting back up, dusting yourself off and seeing who still wants to hang out with you afterward and laugh about it, that’s a gift.”

1. What led to her success according to Taylor Swift?
A.Her ambition to win an award.B.The support from online listeners.
C.The important moments in her life.D.Her experiences of being refused.
2. Which is Taylor’s reaction to her depressing moments?
A.Composing songs.B.Sharing her stories.
C.Making friends online.D.Reflecting on her failure.
3. What can we learn from Taylor Swift’s story?
A.Education is the key to success.B.Our attitude towards failure matters.
C.It’s important to avoid our mistakes.D.We should work hard since an early age.

7 . There was a fine piece of carving stone material, but it was ruined by an unskilled sculptor. Mistakenly, he dug a hole on the part that was originally for the figure's leg. So this rare piece of marble (大理石)was abandoned in a church.

One day, someone called in Michelangelo. They believed only he was able to make use of this piece of marble. Michelangelo looked at the stone and concluded that he could carve out a beautiful figure as long as he got the design adjusted to hide the damaged part.

Michelangelo decided to carve the young David. One day, the mayor (市长)of the city entered the studio. He regarded himself as a carving expert and appreciated the work. He told Michelangelo that his work was a fantastic masterpiece, but the nose was too big.

Michelangelo knew the mayor was standing right below the statue, so his visual angle was incorrect. Without a word, he asked the mayor to climb up the platform following him to the nose position. He then picked up a tool and some small pieces of marble. Michelangelo began to carve gently with the tool and made the collected stone pieces in his hand drop bit by bit. In fact, he didn’t change the nose, but it seemed as if he did. After several minutes, he stood aside and said, “Now, have a look!"

The mayor answered, "This is better. You have made it true to life."
