Waking up at 7 in the morning, 25-year-old Fan Yupei cleans up,     1     (water) flowers in the courtyard, and then opens the door of her Jun porcelain (钧瓷) production studio, ready for a new day’s business.

Life in her hometown, Shenhou town, in Yuzhou City, is much     2     (happy) for Fan. She started her own studio with her husband,     3     quit his job in Beijing. Jun porcelain is one of the top five Chinese porcelains,     4     (date) back to the Song Dynasty. It is famous for     5     (it) change of colors when heated in kilns (窑). With more and more tourists visiting Shenhou every day, Fan has the     10     (confident) that Jun porcelain will gain greater popularity in the future.

We    1    (eat)out for the Spring Festival family dinner for the last three years, and we have enjoyed it no    2    (little) than eating at home. I don't understand why some people refuse    3    (embrace) the change.

Can't they admit that the    4    (prepare) for the dinner are hard work? I really don't think it's worth the effort of spending so much time preparing for a single meal, and then another hour    5    (clean) up the mess after it's over. We work all year, so why can't one day be about spending time with family and relaxing?

The Warwick Cheese Festival takes place in June every year. This annual event is the biggest cheese festival in North America,     1     (attract) tens of thousands of Canadians and     2     (visitor) from all over the world. They can try over 100 kinds of cheese made all over Quebec at the festival. And they     3     (invite) to vote for the People’s Choice Prize of the year.

A lot of Americans like to take part in what is called small talk. They usually make conversation with     1     (stranger) or the people they are familiar with about relaxing topics, such as weather, sports, or popular television shows. What's the secret? They are following the 24 Solar Terms (节气),     2    were added on Nov. 30 to the list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity (人类非物资文化遗产) by the United Nations (UN). It is a knowledge system and social practice    3    (form) through people's observations of the sun's annual movements and its influence on the climate.

The 24 Solar Terms    4    (come) into being during the Qin and Han    5     (dynasty). At that time, most Chinese people made their living on farms, so weather changes were    6    (extreme) important for them.
