Mike: I’m quite interested in Chinese Spring Festival. And I know it is the most important festival for Chinese people. Could you please tell me something about it?
Wang Hui: With pleasure/I’d be glad to.
Mike: When is it celebrated?
Wang Hui:     1    (阴历年的第一天).
Mike: Do you make good preparations before it?
Wang Hui: Of course.
Mike: What do you usually do?
Wang Hui: First,     2     (彻底打扫房子). Next, we’ll buy plenty of daily goods such as fireworks, meat, fish, candies and so on. Besides, we put up couplets and the Chinese character Fu is attached upside down to the front door.
Mike: Upside down? Why?
Wang Hui: It is believed that     3    (福字倒贴的时候), happiness arrives.
Mike: I see. Very interesting. And what do you do on New Year’s Eve?
Wang Hui: Firstly, fireworks are let off, which is a lot of fun. And children usually     4     (玩灯笼). What’s more, we always     5     (家庭聚餐), eating jiaozi and watching the Spring Festival gala on TV.
Mike: I know. And my last question. What do you do on this special day?
Wang Hui: We usually get up very early. Before breakfast, the younger generation should say “Happy New Year” to the older. As is often the case, children wear new clothes and can get pocket money put in an envelope or wrapped in red paper from their parents.
