When Gill Toh first came to China to pursue his flute (长笛) dream, the Malaysian man did not expect to get so much out of it. On the stage, Toh, 36 , is a Chinese b ambo flute performer. Offstage, he teaches how to play     1    musical instrument at Guangxi Arts University.

Toh’s love for the Chinese bamboo flute started in elementary school,    2    clear sound guided him on to the road of flute learning. According to Toh, there were few    3    (profession) Chinese bamboo flute teachers in Malaysia, and the environment for training bamboo flute     4    (player) was limited. In 2005, Toh set off for Beijing and applied to the Central Conservatory (学院) of Music. After getting his bachelor’s degree, Toh    5    (begin) to teach Chinese bamboo flute in Malaysia and Singapore. His desire     6    more knowledge drove him back to the conservatory for postgraduate studies.

Upon graduation, he was offered a job by Guangxi Arts University. Ever since, he has stayed in China,    7    (bury) himself in teaching. He has also joined teams and performed in countries such as Vietnam, the Philippines, and Cambodia    8    (promote) the art of Chinese bamboo flute. “China and Southeast Asian countries are graphical neighbors and    9    (cultural) connected,” he said, hoping that in the future many    10    (many) young people from Southeast Asian countries will realize their self-value in China.
