文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章向我们介绍了露营度假的乐趣。

3 . When you go on holiday, where do you like to stay? Do you like the luxury of a five-star hotel, the convenience of a self-catering apartment or do you prefer the freedom of sleeping under canvas? If you haven’t tried the latter, maybe you should join the increasing number of people who are enjoying the simple pleasures of camping.

By taking your tent, and some necessities, it’s easy to head off to the countryside and enjoy a night or two under the stars. Many campers are ditching the traps of their modern, busy life to do this, encouraged by experts who say a few peaceful nights in the middle of nowhere might be a good way to relax and improve our sleep patterns and well-being. It is also, of course, a good low-budget holiday option.

For the adventurers, wild camping is the escape from reality. Armed with just some food and a sleeping bag, you’re free from rules, away from other people, and able to enjoy theback-to-basics experience. One wild camper, Phoebe Smith, said, “The act of sleeping when everybody else has gone home-when you notice the wildlife and the stars-is one of the best things in life.”

But for those who still want some home comforts, a campsite is a more suitable place to put up your tent. Here you have facilities such as washrooms,a shop and maybe even a restaurant. In the UK, camping has always been popular. One survey found around 4.38 million people go camping in Britain every year.

More recently, sales of camping equipment have jumped as more people have chosen a staycation(宅度假)within the UK due to travel restrictions. One camping businessman, Halfords, reported a rise in demand for products such as stoves, cool boxes and camping chairs. With the addition of powerful torches and lamps to light up your tent and a better selection of easy-to-cook food, you can almost guarantee a comfortable and enjoyable camping expedition. The only thing you can’t guarantee, in the UK at least, is good weather! So maybe it’s time to slum it(将就点)and give camping a try.

1. What does the underlined word “ditching” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A.Taking advantage of.
B.Getting rid of.

During the last summer holiday, I went on a journey to Beijing, that I visited the Great Wall and the Palace Museum. Much to their surprise, there were so much visitors in all the scenic spots that I had to push my way through the crowd. To be honesty, I had a hard time all the way and didn’t find the visit enjoyable or worthwhile at all.

As far as I am concerning, many people have the same experience, so I think that the number of tourist in some popular places of interest should be limited. In an addition, it’s better for us travel at different time periods. Only on this way can we enjoyed the beautiful scenery there.

9 . As I sit at home thinking about my upcoming ad-venture and the things I need to bring, it makes me even more excited to begin my travel. I will be making my way around the world.

The first places on the list are Andalusia and Africa in the book The Alchemist. I will need to pack a lot of stuff and make sure I have enough money to provide myself with food and enough to drink. The Sahara desert is always hot and requires plenty of water.

Next I will head to Mexico in the book Born to Run, where I will encounter the Tarahumara Indian tribe. I will need to get into shape and do some jogging if I want to keep up with them while running. I will have to pack my running shoes, though, because the Tarahumarans have mastered the art of running on the tough land.

This makes me feel excited because like the main character in the book, I also wanted to become a professional athlete when I was younger. For this trip, I will go with an open mind and hopefully meet some friends along the way.

10 . Travel is one of the most exciting experiences a human being can have. Imagine how Italian traveler Marco Polo must have felt when he found himself on Chinese soil, seeing a way of life quite different from anything he’d seen before.

And how marvelous must it have been to listen to Zhang Qian when he returned to China from his journey through Central Asia and West Asia? His brain must have been packed with everything he’d seen and heard, leading to the founding of the Silk Road.

Some people have traveled all over the world, and travel is a way of life to them. They perhaps know what to expect before they travel. That’s why the best travel is when it’s for the first time. Imagine a person who has always wanted to travel to the United States. Of course, they’ve probably seen the Statue of Liberty a thousand times on TV, and the White House, and all the other famous sights. But none of that would compare to the thrill of looking out of the cabin window as the plane lands, watching the cities and streets of the real America come into view.

Although travel is often just for recreation, it’s also educational. We may not know that we are getting an education, but we still are.

We’re learning every day: new words in a new language, new people, and new ways of life. But this learning takes place in the school of the world, not the classroom. One of the lessons we learn is undoubtedly a moral one. As we get to know foreign places, we come to understand that there are many different ways to live, and that the way we live isn’t necessarily the best way. The British politician Benjamin Disraeli summed this up well when he said, “Travel teaches toleration.”

1. The author uses Marco Polo and Zhang Qian as examples to       .
A.explain how the Silk Road was founded
B.present travel as an amazing experience
C.show how the way people travel has changed
D.describe important cultural exchanges in history
2. By saying “the best travel is when it’s for the first time”, the author means that       .
A.one’s first trip is usually the most challenging
B.no other trip is better than one’s first trip
C.there is always much to learn on one’s first trip
D.people usually make better preparations for their first trip
3. The underlined word in paragraph 4 probably means       .
A.learningB.knowledge
C.funD.risk
4. According to the last two paragraphs, the author believes that       .
A.traveling should be included in formal education
B.traveling improves people’s confidence in their lifestyle
C.a foreign journey may raise people’s cultural understanding
D.there is more to learn from adventures than being in classroom
