Last summer, my friend and me visited Beijing’s Hutongs, which made us have the deep understanding of Beijing. The Hutongs mainly built during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Nobody know exactly how many Hutongs there are in Beijing. If we connected all Hutongs together, and the total length would even be long than the Great Wall. As is known, the Great Wall is about 4,000 mile long. Some Hutongs are such narrow that a person like me, in order to get through, has to walk sideways. And some Hutongs have more than 20 turns. With our delight, some are well preserved, where we can experience typically life of old Beijing locals.
4 . Reykjavik, Iceland
Although Iceland’s capital city is one of Europe’s coldest spots, it has plenty of natural hot springs to warm up in and some of the best can be found in the Nauthólsvík area of the city. The annual Winter Lights Festival, which takes place in February, is a spectacular celebration.
Visitors can try their hand at a range of winter sports or skate on the city’s Tjornin pond. Many cozy coffee houses sell rúgbraue — locally made, dark, sweet bread.
“An unmissable experience during winter is a dip in one of the city’s many outdoor geothermal (地热的) swimming pools,” says Eliza Reid, who co-founded icelandwritersretreat. com with Erica Green. “There is no experience quite like being in these naturally warm waters with snowflakes tickling your nose. Each swimming pool has its own character, and everyone has their favorite.”
