1 . Would you drive around the world on a motorbike? Would you do it with a dog ________ behind you the whole way? Jess Stone is doing just that with her dog Moxie.

Stone and Moxie are traveling the world together by_________ . Their trip started on March 5 from their home in Guatemala and will ________ them through 90 countries. 

Moxie is a German shepherd who weighs 34 kilograms and is perfectly ______  on the back of a bike. According to Stone, it took the dog just a single weekend to learn how to  ______ . Sitting on the back of the bike in a motorcycle dog carrier, she looks    _____ with hot pink goggles (护目镜) to protect her eyes.

Stone could not  _______ leaving home without her beloved dog, so she decided to travel the world with Moxie. Traveling with a dog, _______ , has its limits, such as being  ______  to dog-friendly accommodations and attractions. 

But according to Stone, it’s totally  _______ it. “I see Moxie in my mirror _______ . Her head is always right up against my side. Sometimes she even _______  her big nose on my shoulder with her chin up there. It makes me feel so ________ that she’s really experiencing everything.”

One thing Stone has noticed so far is that no matter which country or area they have gone through, the reaction to Moxie is  ______ . “She just puts a big smile on everybody’s face,” Stone said. “And that’s the part that really _______ .”

2 . Be a Traveler, not a Tourist

Last summer, I had just enough money saved to buy a golden ticket—a 3-month train pass that would take me to the furthest reaches of Europe. Excited for my journey, I packed all the necessities —except the _________.

While the convenience of the Internet was definitely a contributing factor to my _________ not to take with me the few expensive kilograms of out-of-date information, this was not the only reason why I decided to fly alone.

To be honest, my main _________ with the guidebook is that I find it _________ the pleasure of a journey—like bossy aunt who is always telling you what to do, _________ she doesn’t always know what is the best.

Experience has taught me that there is an obvious _________ between a tourist and traveler.

While waiting in a queue, I met a man who had a checklist. He showed me his list of “Top 20 Things To Do in Italy” and _________ off in a loud American accent that he’d seen everything Italy has to offer in just four days.

The problem I had with this man’s _______ to travelling was that he was too _______ information   provided   by   his   guidebook.   He   was   lost   in   the __________ attractiveness of the “must-sees” and ________ to all the wonders and adventures that might happen during the ________ trip.

So, ________ any   guidebook,   I   traveled   to   Estonia,   the   tiny   Baltic   country bordering Russia. In the __________ of advance plans as guidebooks would suggest, I had no choice but to turn to some friendly faces for advice. I __________ myself first and then asked them what was happening around the town. When this __________ an invitation to a beautiful Estonian home by a river where I   __________ a 110-degree wood-stove sauna(桑拿浴), __________ picked forest-mushrooms and the good __________ of our five newly-found Estonian friends, I was most glad that I had left my “bossy __________” at home.

4 . I was 17 years old. Along with a dozen other boys I had made a long trip to Iowa in order to see a college that I was thinking of _______. While the trip had been _______ for the most part, I was feeling depressed, alone, and isolated. I was _______ the Appalachian mountains and the forests of my home. I loved _______ the leaves turned a thousand _______ of green in the Spring and then became a _______ of red, gold and orange in the Fall.

Here in Iowa everything was _______. The grass looked burnt and brown. All that I could_______was a mixture of corn, mud and pigs. I walked outside the dormitory of the college and sat on a big rock. I closed my eyes and _______ being back home again. When I finally opened them, however, I saw something that touched my __________. It was a Prairie (大草原) Sunset. It seemed to __________ the sky from horizon to horizon. Gold, red, purple and pink clouds all __________ together in a picture painted by Heaven’s own hand. It was so huge that it took my __________ away. It made our mountain sunsets seem __________ by comparison. I realized that this place too had its own special beauty. This place too was a part of nature’s__________.

5 . The most frequent arguments for travel broadening the mind are that you get to communicate with many different _________, ways of life and new experiences. In general this should be the case._________, how much it broadens your mind depends as much on how you travel as where._________ you go to Thailand and spend most of your time in a hotel, what you’re seeing isn’t _________ Thai culture. But if you take time to _________ its temples or stay with a family and bury yourself in their _________, you might begin to get a good _________ of it. If you _________ anything out of your comfort zone, then you won’t make the most of your _________, wherever you go. Of course travel __________ the mind if you’re open to it and equip yourself with the knowledge you need for where you’re headed, and after all, expanding our horizons is __________ to our growth and progress as human beings.

We’re told that broadening the mind comes from challenging yourself, ________, learning and that this can in part be achieved by travelling. But is broadening the mind the only ________ reason for travelling? What if you ________ want to enjoy some much needed rest and ________?

How much distance you cover doesn’t show how adventurous you are. You can go halfway round the world, but if you just spend all your time __________ shopping malls, you can __________ experience the real workings of the culture you’ve landed in. It’s up to you whether or not you come back from another country with a __________ view on things. Travel doesn’t always broaden the mind. If you’re a narrow-minded bore at home, the __________ are that travel just makes you a narrow-minded bore __________ a plane ticket. And what if those who don’t or can’t travel? Are they forever to have an “unbroadened” view on life? I’m sure they would beg to differ.

6 . Many families usually take their children to travel during school breaks. But Julie and Tim Rivenbark planned a(n)_______vacation with their two children―a one-year trip around the world. They plan to_________30 countries in all.

Right now, the four travellers are about halfway through their _________. Ms. Rivenbark says they are trying to see as much of the_______as they can.

Mr. Rivenbark says the family has_______on ostrich (鸵鸟) birds, elephants, and camels. But, he says, one of the most_________experiences of the trip has been meeting new people.

“People have been_______friendly and welcoming and love our kids―and it’s lovely to see them interacting (互动) with new people and their_________to see our kids enjoying themselves in their country.”

Eleven-year-old Tyler says he has enjoyed_______about the people they have met. “I learned in Africa that people have very________lifestyles to those in America.” His sister Kara__________that she liked Thai food.

Ms. Rivenbark says that the trip is__________the children a lot more than short visits would have. “I think that the longer we travel, the more__________it has on how they see the world. I can see them__________more than they can see themselves,” she said.

It took the family a year to________for the trip. They had to sell their house and cars. Ms. Rivenbark__________her job and her husband is using unpaid leave. They carry small bags________lightweight clothing and whatever else they need. Ms. Rivenbark says she__________being able to carry everything she needs on her back.

Tyler and Kara each have iPads so they can communicate with teachers to stay__________with their schoolwork. Tyler is also__________a 365-day video blog.

7 . A couple of weeks ago, when some friends and I took a trip to Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, I immediately ______ it. Since we are all living in North Germany which is not very ______, it only took us a few hours on the train ______ we were at the heart of this ______ city. The minute we stepped off the ______, we were surrounded by ______ architecture and weaving canals.

We stayed at a youth hostel, which was a typical tall Dutch house with lots of stairs. I ______ staying in youth hostels; it is such a great ______ to meet people from all over the world and ______ your different experiences, ______ and even languages. We stayed in a room with an Argentinian, who we befriended right away, and we spent a lot of ______ together.

During our stay, we made sure to make the most of what Amsterdam has to ______. We took a boat trip through the ______, which gave us some great ______ of the fantastic architecture and canals. We also made sure to go to the Van Gogh Museum, which is one of the city’s most famous tourist attractions, and consists of a ______ collection of his work, along with details of his ______ and the work of other artists that knew him. One of my favourite parts of the trip, though it was rather ______, was our visit to the Anne Frank Museum. She was a Jewish girl who hid with her family for 2 years before the Nazis ______ them and sent them to the death camps. It was a very ______ experience, and certainly worth seeing.

Overall, I think Amsterdam is one of my favourite cities that I have ever been to, and I would love to ______ someday!
