文章大意:这是一篇说明文。主要介绍了一种全新的旅行方式——沉浸式文化旅行,它可以帮助你更好地旅行,让你远离老路,与当地人交流,并带你“超越传统的遗愿清单”。

2 . Travel allows us to experience the world. But as we travel, we are also leaving our footprint on every place we visit. This is why culturally immersive (沉浸) travel is so important. Because the wrong kind of travel negatively affects the world. One of the reasons we started this blog was to help others travel better and feel comfortable getting off the beaten path, interacting with locals, and take you “Beyond the traditional Bucketlist”, if you will.

People who only get 2-weeks off per year are often just looking for an easy destination with a beach to relax on. This isn’t travel. This is a vacation. But “Immersive Travel” or “Cultural Travel” is an entirely new type of trip. It is about experiencing and preserving the various traditions around the world. It’s about being open to new experiences and willing to step into another’s shoes. Cultural travel is jumping in with both feet and leaving your idea about what your trip should be behind you. It’s eating local dishes and sleeping in guesthouses. It’s building genuine connections with locals. It’s learning about the history of a country and leaving your trip with a greater understanding of the place you came to see and the people who live there.

Often times in today’s age, “travelers” will visit a country just to snap some photos of the famous sights to post on Instagram or to drink the night away, or even just to relax on a tropical beach. But that kind of vacation can be harmful to the very communities you’re traveling to.

Beyond supporting the local communities and the preservation of local customs and traditions, you’ll also experience some personal benefits through cultural travels. There’s simply no way to travel this way with a closed mind. You’ll get to know different cultures intimately and understand them a lot better. You’ll also become less judgmental of others the more you travel.

1. What’s the author’s purpose in writing the first paragraph?
A.To stress the negative influence of travel.
B.To describe the importance of cultural travel.
C.To recommend a totally different type of travel.
D.To convey his unique feelings about cultural travel.
2. According to the author, today's travelers tend to_________.
A.establish close connections with the locals during the travel
B.choose a tourist attraction for adventure and exploration
C.show more interest in the history of a travel destination
D.post the photos taken in the journey on the social media
3. What can be inferred about the culturally immersive travel?
A.It is focused on studying local people's lifestyle.
B.Its travelers should be open-minded and understanding.
C.It is a specific way to make judgments of other cultures.
D.Its major concern is preserving local traditions and customs.
4. Where is the text probably taken from?
A.A travel brochure.B.A blog post.
C.A historic magazine.D.An encyclopedia website.

6 . When architect Douglas Cardinal was studying at the University of Texas many years ago, he used to drive to the college through the Rocky Mountains from his home Alberta, Canada. “I was inspired by those forms,” Cardinal told an American journalist. “They helped me realize architecture should come from the natural environment of a place.”

While Canadians are familiar with Cardinal's highly original work, he is not alone in taking inspiration from nature and preferring curves (曲线) to straight lines. As a key contributor to an international movement known as organic architecture, Cardinal has had his work and views presented in the book New Organic Architecture: The Breaking Wave by British architect David Pearson. In his book, Pearson expresses the meaning of organic architecture with examples of amazing buildings by 30 architects from 15 countries.

For example, in New Caledonia, Italian architect Renzon Piano has designed a village inspired by native cottages and their relationship to nature. In Palm Springs, California, American architect Kendrick Bangs Kellogg has created a desert house that looks like a bird. The house is earthquake-proof (抗震的) and stores the sun's heat, letting it out at night.

“There's a growing awareness of the need for all architects to influence the environment as little as possible,” Pearson said. “What is new is to link the newer environmental awareness to the passionate (充满热情地) design that can come out of looking at nature and its forms.”

“Organic architecture is rooted in a passion for life, nature and natural forms,” Pearson writes. “Its free-flowing curves and expressive forms are in agreement with the human body, mind, spirit. In a well-designed organic building, we feel better and freer.”

Cardinal has won an award for his new work. “There's a countless variety of forms in nature, and I am continually inspired by observing all these forms,” says Cardinal.

A.A famous architect.B.A journalist who interviewed him.

A.He likes straight lines more.B.He failed to win an award for his works.
C.He is less popular in Canada than in America.D.He made great efforts in the organic architecture movement.
3. What do buildings in Pearson's book have in common?
A.They look like birds.B.They are earthquake-proof.
C.They draw inspiration from nature.D.They can keep still in an earthquake.
4. What does Cardinal think of organic architecture?
A.It needs further development.B.It combines humanity with nature.

7 . Nature has inspired many of the most fascination designs around us, including those in architecture. From Barcelona’s forest-like Sagrada Familia to the modern style of Beijing’s Water Cube, nature is presented in various architectural designs. Today, architects continue to explore ways to capture the beauty of natural forms, to mimic (模仿) the way nature works or even to make natural organisms part of a building.

ArtScience Museum, Singapore

ArtScience Museum was designed to show the connection between nature and the modern city environment in which it sits. Shaped to resemble a lotus flower, it appears to float above the waterfront promenade and the water that surrounds it. Its roof collects rainwater and channels it 35 metres down to a waterfall in the centre of the space. The water is then recycled through the building’s plumbing system. Visitors are often amazed to find themselves in an urban building that so truly captures the beauty of natural forms.

The Eastgate Centre, Harare

Harare’s Eastgate Centre is a superb example of biomimicry (生物仿生). To use biomimicry is to create structures based on natural forms and processes. Zimbabwean architect Mick Pearce was inspired to create the Centre while watching a nature documentary in which termites (白蚁) were constructing their nests. The insects built mounds covered in little holes designed to allow air to move freely in and out of the mounds. In a similar way, the Eastgate Centre has a “skin” covered in holes. During the day, warm air is drawn into the building through the holes, cooling as it reaches the middle of the building. At night, the heat absorbed by the wall during the day warms the cool air, creating a comfortable temperature inside. The design reduces the need for traditional air conditioning and heating systems, so the building uses less energy and costs less to run.

The Algae (藻类) House, Hamburg

The world’s first algae-powered building is in Hamburg, Germany. The surface of the apartment building is covered in panels that contain algae. The algae are fed with liquid nutrients and carbon dioxide to encourage them to grow. In bright sunshine, they grow faster and proved shade. The panels also capture heat from the sun and convert it into energy that powers the building. And that’s not all—the algae inside the panels can be harvested and used to produce fuel. The building therefore not only responds to its environment and uses less energy, but also reduces damage to the environment by generating its own renewable energy.

1. What is the author’s purpose in writing the message?
A.To introduce three biomimicry architects.
B.To show how nature fits into architecture.
C.To tell us how to use less energy and do less damage to the environment.
D.To show some buildings of the future.
2. What could be inferred from Paragraph 2?
A.ArtScience Museum looks like a flower.
B.The waterfall in the center of the space is formed naturally.
C.While in the building, visitors always find themselves in urban areas.
D.ArtScience Museum was designed to collect rainwater.
3. What can we learn about Harare’s Eastgate Centre?
A.It was built according to the forms and processes of nature.
B.It is shaped like a termite nest.
C.Its design relics on traditional air conditioning and beating systems.
D.Without those holes, the building wouldn’t work.
4. Which of the following statement is NOT true about the Algae House?
A.The algae need to feed/
B.The algae can be used to produce fuel/
C.It’s the only algae-powered building in the world.
D.Panels containing algae cover the surface of the apartment.
5. What could be the best title for the passage?
A.Nature in architecture
B.The development of architecture
C.Charm of biomimicry
D.In harmony with the building

8 . Planning a visit to the UK? Here are some useful methods to cut down your budget.

AVOID BIG EVENTS

During big sporting games, concerts and exhibitions, the cost of accommodation is more likely to increase. A standard double room at the Thistle Brighton on the final Friday of the Brighton Comedy(喜剧)Festival (19th Oct.) cost £169.15 at Booking. com while just a week later, the same room cost £118.15. If you want to know which dates to a void-or you've looking for a big event to pass your time-check out sites such as Whatsonwhen.com, which allow you to search for events in the UK by city, date and category.

STAYAWAY FROM THE STATION

If traveling to your destination by train, you may want to find a good hotel close to the station, but you are expected to pay more because of convenience at the start of your holiday. Don't put too much attention on the part of town you stay in. Booking two months ahead of schedule, the cheapest single room at Travelodge's Central Euston in London for Saturday 22th September was £95.95. A room just an underground journey away at its Covent Garden hotel was £75.75. While at Farringdon, a double room costs just £62.95.

LOOK AFTER YOURSELF

Really central hotels in cities like London, Edinburgh and Cardiff can cost a fortune, especially at weekends and during big events. So it will be a good choice to consider checking into a self-cooking flat with its own kitchen. Often these flats are hidden away on the top floors of city center buildings. An example is the historic O'Neill Flat on Edinburgh's Royal Mile, available for £420 for five days in September, with room for four adults.

TAKE A BIKE

London's "Boris bikes" have aroused the most attention from home and overseas tourists, but other cities also have similar programs that let you rent a bicycle and explore at your own pace, saving you on public transport or car parking costs. Among the smaller cities with their own programs are Newcastle (approximately £1.50 for two hours) and Cardiff (free for up to 30 minutes).

1. The Brighton Comedy Festival is mentioned mainly to show that big events may________.
A.help the travelers kill the time
B.cause the travelers to spend more on accommodation
C.give the tourists more choices to arrange their schedule
D.attract move tourists to the UK
2. "Farringdon" in Paragraph 3 is probably________.
A.a hotel away from a train station
B.the underground line to Covent Garden
C.one of the most popular tourist destinations
D.the name of a train station

10 . Before the corona virus pandemic arrived in Italy, the big worry about tourism was overcrowding, as millions of tourists crowded the country's most popular spots like Florence, Rome and Venice. Then, with the pandemic, tourists disappeared.

According to most estimates, the tourism sector is not expected to recover to pre-pandemic levels until late 2023 or early 2024, but political leaders and many working in the sector are taking steps now to assure that, as the tourism strengthens, it avoids the former overcrowding problems in tourist centers.

“Italy should not emphasize the dependence on big tour buses that all pull into parking lots and overwhelm a small town for a few hours, but promote more high-quality tourism that shows visitors the country wonders beyond the few dozen places everyone knows about," Gianfranco Lorenzo, head of the research department for Florence's Center for Touristic Studies, says. There's no reason people should be lined up to see one famous site when there are many places that are just as important and just as impressive.

Those strategies are already in development. This summer many Italian cities are trying to focus the attention of visitors on outdoor attractions like sprawling gardens and architectural ruins, where visitors can remain spread out to keep corona-virus infection risks low.

Florence's Uffizi Galleries, one of the most visited museums in Italy, has launched the “Uffizi Diffusi” initiative which includes displaying some of its collections in museums in smaller towns to help draw tourists who might otherwise have spent their time in overcrowded Florence.

Lorenzo says reducing the impact of tourists does not mean the country will have to host fewer tourists in the future. “In a few years we could even have more tourists than we had before the pandemic,” he says. “But for that to be sustainable, they just have to be spread out more evenly.”

1. Why do the political leaders in Italy adopt certain strategies in the tourism sector?
A.To protect visitors from corona-virus infection.
B.To settle the overcrowding problem in tourist centers.
C.To limit the number of tourists coming to Italy.
D.To host more foreign tourists in the near future.
2. The “Uffizi Diffusi” initiative has been launched to _______.
A.draw more tourists
B.display great works
C.promote tourism industry
D.spread out visitors
3. What is Gianfranco Lorenzo's attitude towards the future of tourism in Italy?
A.Optimistic.
B.Ambiguous.
C.Doubtful.
D.Concerned.
4. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.The Problem of Overcrowding in Italy.
B.The Future of the Tourism Industry in Italy.
C.The Reform of the Tourism Industry in Italy.
D.The Impact of Corona-virus Pandemic on Italy.
