Stamp collecting has recently emerged as a fresh and innovative approach for young people to document their travels. Instead of     1     (mere) taking photos with famous landmarks,     2     (enthusiast) of this new trend eagerly explore every corner of various attractions, museums, and shops during their journeys in search     3     various stamps. They imprint the stamps, usually with single or multicolored pictures of the scenic spots or images of famous people on postcards or in travel journals, thus     4     (create) a unique memory of their travels. Free or paid, each stamp serves as a representation of the visitor’s     5     (present) at that specific location, becoming a     6     (cherish) part of their memories.

Shi Junchu, 29, from Yunnan province, came across stamp collecting three years ago while traveling in Wuhan, Hubei province. She found it to be a better way of commemorating her travels    7     purchasing souvenirs (纪念品), so she carries a specially prepared notebook for collecting stamps whenever she travels.

“Stamp collecting has added more meaning to my travels. Turning the pages of those notebooks     8     (feel) somewhat like looking at photos. I can recall     9     happened back then just by turning to a page the delicious food I had, and the fun experiences I enjoyed, she said.

She currently operates a private museum in Kunming. Since last October, she has also introduced stamp-collecting services     10    (encourage) more visitors to explore the museum.

How will geography affect your future? For some children around the world, the environment they grow up     1     has a huge impact on their lives. For example, children in Madagascar now stand to benefit from the large amount of sunlight their country receives. One non-governmental organization (NGO) is building 3D-printed schools     2     run on solar power.

Maggie Grout was just 15 years old when she founded her NGO-Thinking Huts. Now 22, she is celebrating the     3     (complete) of her NGO’s first 3D-printed school in Madagascar.

She     4     (lead) the entire process from start to finish, working with a professor from the university supporting her NGO. First, they scouted (搜寻) several locations and ultimately decided on Madagascar due to     5     need for schools and ability to provide     6     renewable energy source. Then Grout drew a design layout for the school considering many elements.

Next, Grout had to find the right architect and 3D printing firm for the job. Using an architecture-scale 3D printer, the school was built layer by layer form the ground up. This method of construction decreases the need for concrete (混凝土)     7     up to 50 percent and emits less CO₂,     8     (mean) the school can be completed with in a week.     9     (increase) sustainability, the process included sourcing local materials to build doors, windows and roof.

What’s more, the NGO employed a local labor force and trained them to use a 3D printer so that they can build more schools on their own in the future. She plans to print another school in a     10     (remote) part of the country where one in five children don’t have the chance to attend primary school.

Xiamen, lying in Fujian Province, is a famous coastal city. As far as I’m concerned, Xiamen is very clean and pretty. In that city, we can enjoy the clear sky, the beautiful sea,     1     green tropical plants. As Xiamen is in the southeast of China and close to the sea, it’s neither too cold in winter     2     too hot in summer. The best seasons to go to Xiamen     3    (be) both spring and summer. Besides, there are some famous tourist    4    (site) in Xiamen. And the most beautiful scenic spot is Gulangyu Island. We can visit foreign architectures, nice gardens, beautiful parks, and     5    (tradition) museums there. The Old Summer Palace in Beijing will allow free entry to the public on Sunday, the day     1     marks the 160th anniversary of the burning and massive looting (劫掠) of the palace, in an attempt     2     (remember) history and draw more people into the     3     (memory) place. Karakul Lake, which literally means “Black Lake” in the local language, is anything but black.
