How will geography affect your future? For some children around the world, the environment they grow up     1     has a huge impact on their lives. For example, children in Madagascar now stand to benefit from the large amount of sunlight their country receives. One non-governmental organization (NGO) is building 3D-printed schools     2     run on solar power.

Maggie Grout was just 15 years old when she founded her NGO-Thinking Huts. Now 22, she is celebrating the     3     (complete) of her NGO’s first 3D-printed school in Madagascar.

She     4     (lead) the entire process from start to finish, working with a professor from the university supporting her NGO. First, they scouted (搜寻) several locations and ultimately decided on Madagascar due to     5     need for schools and ability to provide     6     renewable energy source. Then Grout drew a design layout for the school considering many elements.

Next, Grout had to find the right architect and 3D printing firm for the job. Using an architecture-scale 3D printer, the school was built layer by layer form the ground up. This method of construction decreases the need for concrete (混凝土)     7     up to 50 percent and emits less CO₂,     8     (mean) the school can be completed with in a week.     9     (increase) sustainability, the process included sourcing local materials to build doors, windows and roof.

What’s more, the NGO employed a local labor force and trained them to use a 3D printer so that they can build more schools on their own in the future. She plans to print another school in a     10     (remote) part of the country where one in five children don’t have the chance to attend primary school.

Darwin

As major cities go, Darwin is on the rather small side. It sits in the north-central region of Australia, right on the Timor Sea. It is a true     1     (melt) pot with people from many nations making up     2     (it) population. The lifestyle in Darwin has been described as peaceful by many people     3     have visited there before. Because of the faraway location, the most popular way to get to Darwin     4     (be) by airplane. It is possible to cross the continent (大陆) by road or rail, but each of those methods     5     (come) with its own set of problems.

Darwin has     6     unique history and much of that history is on display in the form of the Australian Aviation Heritage Centre, Darwin Wharf Precinct, Burnett House at Myilly Point and The Old Court House and Police. Darwin     7     (locate) near a number of beautiful natural     8     (attraction) including George Brown Botanical Gardens, Casuarina Coastal Reserve, Charles Darwin National Park, Lake Alexander and Bicentennial Park. My friend and I looked over at the beaches and were highly excited. We had     1     (final) arrived at the Canary Island of Fuerteventura and were staying in the quiet coastal town El Cotillo. After     2     (hope) to visit the Canary Islands someday for so long, it was worth the wait to get a chance     3     (relax) in these beautiful surroundings (环境) .

The nearby beaches were beautiful with rich white sand and clean waters     4     weren't far from our hotel. People often walked by with     5     (they) dogs, and families played nearby but there were no crowds.

One evening weds covered a number of restaurants and bars (酒吧) as well as a market. We     6     (see) the Castillo de El Cotillo, a historic monument (纪念碑). It felt very safe to walk around, so I went for     7    evening walk alone along the nearest beach one night.

One day we took an exciting cart our of Fuerteventura with a(n)     8     (friend), knowledgeable guide and enjoyed views of mountains. We even drove up one. Our tour also showed us beautiful coastlines, and many local places of interest.

After seven days we left this wonderful island. I had been far away     9    home, but was in a homely, quiet place with lots of exciting     10     (thing) to see and do. I want to go back one day and experience some more.

One of the challenges for any trip to Jiuzhaigou is the transportation in and out of northern Sichuan as, unlike most other     1     (destination) in China, the choice is quite limited (有限的).

Many people who visit Jiuzhaigou will fly in. There are daily flights from the most popular airports in the country. The three most popular cities that international travelers often choose when leaving for Jiuzhaigou     2     (be) Chengdu in Sichuan Province, Chongqing, and Xi’an in Shaanxi Province.

The airport that services the area     3     (call) the Jiuzhai Huanglong Airport. It is about a two-hour drive to Jiuzhaigou National Park. There are buses from the airport to the park, but they are limited. The other choice is to take a taxi,     4     will cost several hundred yuan.

Huanglong National Park, another nearby attraction, shares the airport     5     Jiuzhaigou and it’s     6     (close) to the airport — about an hour’s drive.

There is no train station in Jiuzhaigou, because of the terrain (地形). Besides the plane, some buses run from Chengdu each day. Also, you can hire (租用)     7     private car and driver.

On     8     (arrive) in Jiuzhaigou, there are taxis to help you tour around, along with some tourist buses. Many people choose     9     (book) a private tour so they can    10     (easy) visit some of the nearby attractions.
