Walking in the park of Helanshan Rock Art Relics in Yinchuan, Ningxia Hui autonomous region is like     1     (take) a wander through history. One can’t help but be amazed at the number of artworks and carvings on the rocks at the entrance     2     the Helan Mountains.

Altogether, about 6,000 carvings     3     (find) in the park area since the 1970s. And in the Helan Mountains region, more than 25,000     4     (piece) have been discovered. One of the unique parts of Chinese architecture is altar(坛). If you do a Beijing tour, you will see many altars. The Chinese tan is an altar where ancient     1    ( ruler) used to offer sacrifices (祭品)to Heaven, and architecturally it     2     ( refer) to a special type of terrace (柱廊)—like building. A number of Beijing’s parks,     3     instance, still have the word tan in their names: Tiantan, Yuetan, Ditan, Ritan, and Xiannongtan.

Tibet was a region I was desperate to see,     1     its remoteness and my inability to go delayed my journey. Last summer, my brother and I finally decided to take the trip.

We set off at the Guangzhou train station and three days later, we arrived in Lhasa. The trip certainly took a while; however, we     2     (reward) with the most beautiful views and made friends along the way, all at a     3     (low) cost than flying.

About a week later, we arrived. We stayed in a guesthouse just next to the base camp and after dropping off our luggage,     9     (head) straight outside to see the Mt. Qomolangma. The tip of the mountain emerged through the clouds,     10     (astonish) us with its unbelievable height. The clouds parted and we watched the sunset over the peak.
