2 . The Imperial Palace, also called the Forbidden City was the palace where the 24 emperors of the Ming and Qing Dynasties ruled China for roughly 500 years.

The Imperial Palace is located in the center of Beijing, on the northern side of Tian'anmen Square, rectangular (矩形的) in shape, 961 meters from north to south and 753 meters wide from east to west, with an area of 1,120,000 square meters. It's the world's largest and most complete palace made of wood in existence.

The Imperial Palace is divided into two parts: the Outer Court and the Inner Court. The Outer Court was the place where the emperors hosted royal ceremonies and handled the day-to-day affairs of the state, while the Inner Court was the living quarters for the emperors and their families. In 1987 the Imperial Palace was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Imperial Palace is surrounded by royal gardens. To the west lies Zhongnanhai, which serves as the central headquarters for the Communist Party of China. To the north-west lies Beihai Park, which also is a popular park. To the north lies Jingshan Park, also known as Coal Hill, where the last Ming emperor hanged himself as the rebel army overran his palace.

Today, Tian'anmen Gate in front of the Forbidden City is decorated with a portrait of Mao Zedong in the center and two placards (标语牌) to the left and right. The left placard reads “Long Live the People's Republic of China”, and the right placard reads “Long live the Great Unity of the World's Peoples”. The phrasing has great symbolic meaning, as the phrase “long live” was traditionally reserved for the emperors of China, but is now available to the common people. This is also true of the Forbidden City.

1. According to the passage, what makes the Imperial Palace stand out in the world?
A.It is a palace complex with a long history.
B.It witnessed 24 emperors working and living in it.
C.It is the largest and best preserved wooden palace.
D.It was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
2. What was the Outer Court of the Imperial Palace used for?

Before my visit to a friend in Australia, I had done some research on the country     1    (locate)to the south of the equator. A lot of typical Australian food is     4    (original)British. The influence of Asian cultures, on the other hand, led to the     5    (introduce)of bean curd and Asian herbs. After experiencing Australia, I have to say that I agree with     10     tourism slogan: “There's nothing like Australia.”

7 . With its snow-covered mountains and a variety of wildlife, Yellowstone National Park is one of the scenic treasures of the United States. Located primarily in Wyoming, the park receives millions of visitors every year. If you plan to travel within the park, keep in mind advice from the National Park Service.

Seasonal Travel

Travel varies vastly from season to season. Roads are generally open in the summer except for cases of rock or mud slides, wild fires, accidents or road construction. Early snows in the fall can cause some roads to be closed temporarily. In the winter almost all roads are closed to motor vehicles, but snowmobiles and other vehicles with snow chains are allowed. Roads begin to open in the spring by the latter part of April but will be closed if snowfall continues.

Driving Time

Grand Loop is the main road through Yellowstone National Park; it passes by most of the major attractions. These include Old Faithful, Yellowstone Lake and the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. The maximum speed limit on the Grand Loop is 45 miles per hour, but the speed limit drops during some of the winding and twisting sections of this narrow road. Allow yourself at least two days to fully travel the loop due to the size of the park and being sometimes stuck in heavy traffic.

Safety Awareness

Buffaloes often block the roads in the park as they move through the fields. If a herd is travelling across the road you are on, you can either wait for them to pass or find an alternative route. If you get out of your vehicle, the National Park Service suggests that you stay at least 25 yards from any buffalo(and 100 yards or more away from bears and wolves). Buffaloes are particularly unpredictable and charge towards people at a speed of up to 30 mph.

You can ride your bicycle on any public roads and routes designed for bikes, but bicycles are not allowed on the park roads which are narrow. Altitudes range from 5,300 to 8,860 feet. The National Park Service recommends cyclists wear helmets and noticeable clothing.

1. What do we know about travelling in Yellowstone National Park?

8 . Fuerteventura is a great place awaiting your discovery. Here are some reasons.

La Concha beach

Located in the Concha bay, the La Concha beach is one of the most popular beaches, which is dressed in white sand and beautified with calm water. The beach is close to the town, and at sunset, most tourists rush to see the skies turn beautiful colours in just a few short moments. At low tide(海水的低潮), small pools of water form, and these are great for the little members of the family to take a dive in. There are enough parking lots and plenty of restaurants to choose from.

Corralejo Natural Park

If you want to experience the desert beauty of Fuerteventura, Corralejo Natural Park will be the best place. It is a coin with two sides. One is characterized by volcanic scenery, and the other is white sand that has been cleansed by the blue water of the Atlantic Ocean. Getting to the park can be easily done by road, but exploring it demands that you put on your hiking shoes and take a walk through the natural wonderland.

Costa Calma beach

Costa Calma beach is characterized by blue waters and white sand. The beach is not packed, so you will get a chance to be just with your thoughts as you sunbathe on the sand. When the winds are swift, Costa Calma beach turns into a hot spot for surfers, ideal for those wanting to get a surfing course. The road leading to the beach is fenced by green plants meaning the magic starts even before you get there.

Cofete Beach

It's hard to find a fitting description for this wild beach. Its shoreline is great for its golden sand and wild water. Getting to Cofete Beach is not easy: perhaps that's why this place is still in its original state. The road has difficult spots that require expert driving skills. However, if you can tolerate it, you will be treated with some amazing views.

A.Cofete Beach.
B.Corralejo Natural Park.
