文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。作者在文章中根据自己的经验就欧洲之旅的准备工作提出建议。

6 . It’s been a few years since my three-month trip across Europe, but it is by far one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had. If you have decided to go on this kind of journey, I have put together a list of important things to share with you, based on my own experiences.

You might be thinking now that you won’t have time or the desire to talk to anyone back at home while you are on your great adventure. However, once you’ve been away for a week or two, you might start to change your idea and want to tell anything you see to them. So it’s always a good idea to have a phone card that works internationally, just in case.

Before you buy a phone card plan, make sure of checking the rates! You don’t want to come home with a $500 phone bill! In order to make sure I didn’t overspend on the phone, I purchased a few $50 prepaid phone cards before I left, and then used my minutes sparingly.

Memories are never as clear, years later, as you want them to be. Pictures are nice, but you may find yourself wondering, ”What was the name of that place?” Keep a diary so that you can record your daily activities, the names of people you met in a certain city, and exciting things you got to see or do.

If you don’t have enough money, you can choose to stay in hostels (招待所), which are by far the cheapest way in most of Europe. And you can also take a sleeping bag with you, which will make you have a better sleep, if you have room in your pack and you don’t mind the extra weight. But in my opinion, it might take up much room; you’d better not take one.

1. What might we do during our tour of Europe according to the second paragraph?
A.Become pretty homesick.
B.Waste time in remaking plans.
C.Spend time looking for phone cards.
D.Share our trip experiences with our families.
2. Which of the following words has the closest meaning to the underlined word“sparingly”?
A.Gently.B.Carefully.C.Quickly.D.Freely.
3. What does the author advise us to do in the last paragraph?
A.Book hostels in advance.B.Early to bed, early to rise.
C.Take as few things as possible.D.Make sure your items are well-packed.
4. What does the author mainly want to tell us by writing this passage?
A.How to prepare for a European trip.
B.How to have a good night’s sleep
C.How to keep a record of our journey.
D.How to save money on phone bills.

7 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

The bus ran along the winding mountain road. Trying not to look at the road, I stared out the large window at the tropical greenery (绿色植物) that covered the mountain.

Next to me, my mother was as absorbed by the view as I was. She had won the trip to Costa Rica as an award for her high performance at her job. She had decided to take me with her so that we could have some “girl time” together in a new place, and I couldn’t be happier to be in such a beautiful place.

Our bus came to a small parking lot surrounded by forest. Our guide had told the tour group that it was a cloud forest we were visiting. People started to rise from their seats and moved toward the door. My mom and I picked up our bags and started down the narrow passage, excited to finally get to go on a hike after the hour-long bus ride.

When the entire group had gathered outside, the guide smiled at us. “This is an active volcano we are standing on top of now,” he said. “You have the opportunity to explore without a guide. There are two paths you can follow when we get into the woods: the first is a shorter loop (环线) and will take you back here in forty minutes or so; the second will take you a longer way, and you should be back here in an hour and twenty minutes. The longer loop is very steep, but certainly doable. All of you should be back here in two hours, which should give you plenty of time to admire the beautiful wildlife of Costa Rica! Go ahead and get started!”

Mom looked at me uncertainly. “I assume you would like to do the longer loop,” she said after a moment. I nodded. We only had five days here, and I wanted to see as much as I could during that time. Mom finally agreed.

Sustainable tourism, which is becoming increasingly popular nowadays, is not just about seeing the sights — it is also about connecting with people and their cultures,     1     (make) a positive impact on the places we visit and enhancing opportunities for the future. So,     2     can we be sustainable tourists?

It is important to travel in     3     environmentally friendly manner. Getting to a tourist destination by airplane, which greatly     4     (increase) our carbon footprint, has a huge impact on the global environment. While avoiding flying is not always     5     (practice), we can help improve the environment by travelling on local public transport or even on foot wherever possible. When at the hotel, we can reduce our impact by cutting back on water consumption and not having our bedding and towels     6     (wash) every day. We also need to protect the local culture. When visiting temples or churches,     7     a strict dress code may     8     (require), we should dress appropriately. While travelling, we should respect the right to privacy. We must ask for     9     (permit) before taking pictures of the local people, who are human beings and not     10     display.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。本文讲述了随着参观Zion的游客数量不断增加,对自然环境造成了极大压力,也不利于游客参观,因此,国家公园管理局宣布游客需要预约才能进入公园。

9 . Zion is among the most visited parks in the USA and is particularly crowded because many of its most popular sites sit in a narrow six-mile canyon. Last year, about 4.3 million people visited it, up to 60 percent from a decade ago. So this year, park managers announced they were considering a first for any national park: requiring reservations for entry.

The National Park Service was created in 1916 to protect the country’s growing system of parks and monuments. Its aim is to conserve scenery and wildlife while also protecting visitor enjoyment for generations to come. For years, the lack of a reservation system for park entry associated with the spirit of adventure: Anyone could come, pretty much anytime.

But lately, both visitors and nature are suffering. Mr. Burns, who is on a team that is considering a reservation system, said some people showed up for a vacation they had planned for months, spent a day in the traffic jam and turned around. Mr. Burns said he favored a reservation policy. He recalled the days when he would jump in a car and pull up to parks across the West with no plans.

When he first came to the park in the 1980s, he wrote a letter home. “I’m living in a no-man’s-land,” he told his parents. He could hike for hours, even days, without seeing a soul, and he remembered the constantly changing light on the canyons, the brilliant green of the trees, the blue water of the Virgin River. Today, he said, when he wants to find solitude (清静), it is usually accompanied by the distant rumble of the shuttle bus.

“There is only one Zion National Park,” he said to those struggling to see a need for limiting access. “And it’s sacred. Its beauty is sacred.”

1. What do we know about Zion from the first paragraph?
A.It just sits in a narrow six-mile canyon.B.It has required reservations for entry.
C.It’s the most visited park in the USA.D.It has an increasing number of visitors.
2. Which is NOT the aim of The National Park Service?
A.To maintain visitor enjoyment.
B.To conserve scenery and wildlife.
C.To allow visitors to visit the parks at anytime.
D.To protect the country’s growing system of parks and monuments.
3. What’ s the attitude of Mr. Burns to the reservation policy?
A.Cautious.B.Supportive.C.Doubtful.D.Unconcerned.
4. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text?
A.A Popular Reservation PolicyB.The National Park Service
C.Zion National Park—A Sacred PlaceD.Zion Requiring Reservations for Entry
