1 . Crossing the pedestrian bridge that connects our school to its surrounding neighborhood reminds us that there's more to Rochester than just our school.
Study somewhere else besides school. Go to a coffee shop, or one of the public libraries. I like the music library at Eastman, and the coffee shop across the street, Java's. Rochester is full of cafes and spots to sit and study.
Go to a concert, if you're into that. The Little Theater has free live music every single night, and there's a variety of other bars and music halls that bring in local artists. Most venues offer shows for less than $10.
Go for more walks. When you're stuck, listen to music and roam around our campus. Sit under a tree and look at all the people walking by. Or take one of the shuttles that stop in front of the library to a new neighborhood, like the South Wedge, and float in and out of the small businesses along the street. Or, if you know somebody with a car, go to Letchworth and see the waterfalls.
A.Go to the Live Music. |
B.Go to the Public Market. |
C.But how often do we cross that bridge? |
D.No matter what it is, going outside always helps. |
E.If you can focus outside of our own library, do it. |
F.Additionally, all student concerts at Eastman are free for students at our school. |
G.It's no secret that our college campus, like the majority of campuses, is a bubble. |
2 . The Grand circle—All Year Long
In the Grand Circle, there is no reason to pick one season or one vacation over another—you can do it all. Combine skiing outside Denver or Salt Lake city with hiking in Moab or golfing in Sedona. If the South Rim is chilly in winter, hike into the Grand for a springtime paradise. If canyons (峡谷) seem too warm in summer, drive up into the mountains for cool green escapes.
Driving Tips
Gas up. You can travel a hundred miles between fuel stops. Make sure all of your vehicles with liquid are full, too.
Watch for animals. Free-range livestock grazing (放牧) is commonplace out here—and if the cows and sheep don’t wander into the road, the deer might.
Road signs. If a road sign shows a warning like “Steep Curves Ahead,” or “Chains or Snow Tires Required,” or advises you not to continue without four wheel drive, believe it.Cary water and—in winter—extra clothes and a small shovel.
Cultural etiquette
Indian reservations are independent nations. Traffic violations and accidents may bring you up before tribal, not state.Alcohol is not permitted on most reservations; carrying it―whether in open or closed containers—is illegal. Consider, at all times, that you are a guest of a different culture, a different nation. Do not photograph people unless permission is requested and gran led. Never interrupt ceremonies or rituals. Do not assume all people speak English. If you are buying crafts from a roadside stand, ask if the price is negotiable; sometimes it is, often it isn’t.
Be weather wise
When rain or thunder storms are possible, be cautious. When camping or hiking in narrow canyons and washes.
Save with park passes
There are over thirty national parks and monuments, national recreation areas, and national historic parks within the Grand Circle, as well as national forests, state parks and tribal parks. Most sites charge an entrance fee, but National Park Service and state multiparty passes are available.

Kulangsu... Every time you go there, you’ll find a new spot. And a new story.
One of my most memorable trips took place during the summer vacation about three years ago, when my sister, my aunt and I took a trip to Spain because we were moving. On the day of the trip, I lay in bed thinking about my friends whom I was going to leave behind and thoughts were flooding in.
When we arrived at the hire station, we seemed to have some problems with our luggage because it was too much for a taxi, so we had to book a van (厢式送货车) to take our luggage to the airport. We waited for a long period to find a perfect van that would fit our luggage.
Before leaving, I felt very bad because I was going to a different country and was going to miss all my friends and family. I was not comfortable and cried.
The journey was almost perfect at the beginning, but soon it began to rain. Because of the rain, the drivers could not see far away, which caused a huge traffic jam. I was sitting by the window with a can of Coke that I had bought in the store earlier. My aunt and sister fell asleep, and during this time. I felt bored and thought about other things that bothered me. My eyes turned to the mountain in front of us.
A bus suddenly appeared in the picture. It was very close to us. Cars sped past us without any speed limit. Beside me was a very deep lake: I wondered to myself what if something or someone fell inside it. Suddenly, a bus in front of our van stopped, and because it was raining heavily and the van was going fast, no one could see what was going to happen. Then, bang, we bumped into each other. Our van overturned, but luckily, it didn’t fall into the lake. People came to help us get out of the van because we were blocked and the driver was half-dead.

10 . Tiger research: Indonesia
While sustainable tourism helps protect many of the Indonesia’s wildlife, one of its rarest species, the Sumatran tiger, suffers as the island’s cities expand into its forest habitat. Fortunately Biosphere Expeditions have created a trip that not only benefits the seriously endangered animal, but helps protect it too. Based in a remote camp in the heart of the rainforest, volunteers will be needed to tour the landscape, documenting tracks, kills and scats (粪便) to aid important research into the lives of these big cats.

With an ancient world of temples and jungles, Cambodia is the kind of country that needs to be explored slowly. PEPY Tours offers 621 miles of green fields, dusty orange tracks and winding rivers on its 15-day cycling expeditions. Money goes directly to local people through homestays and lunches, while tours allow visitors to learn Khmer customs and contribute to ongoing community development projects.

Teaching: Morocco
It’s the breathtaking beauty that draws tourists to Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains, but while the remoteness of the setting may aid its charm it also causes problems. Few inhabitants of the region’s rural villages, especially females, continue their education past primary school. Education For All (EFA) is a Moroccan NGO that builds and runs girls’ boarding houses near secondary schools in the High Atlas, making further education theoretically possible. Based in the beautiful town of Asni, the programme is looking for female volunteers with teaching experience.
