4 . Travelling in Paris
The uniform sandstone of the Haussmann buildings, the variety of golden historic monuments, and the attractive Seine and its elegant bridges have arguably made Paris the most recognizable and romanticized cityscape in the world. But though the city wears its history with characteristic style, it is also increasingly looking to the future and outwards to the rest of the world.
Where to go
Those looking to explore the city’s rich heritage can spend long afternoons getting lost in the Louvre or wandering the Orsay Museum, or ducking in and out of Paris’s countless historical churches. For more contemporary tastes, there’s plenty of exploring to be done in the less jam-packed outer regions-from arts venues (场所) on the sloping streets of Belleville to the luxurious hotels and reinvented bars.
When to go
You can come to Paris any time but the atmosphere is quite different at different times of year. Winter is a time for festivals and feasting on games and oysters (牡蛎). Spring and early summer are the time to make the most of city parks and cafe terraces, with fireworks set off on June 21 and military parade held on July 14. In August the capital slows down and some people love it for the feeling of calm. The autumn renewable activities start with a burst of energy for the new cultural season and big exhibition openings.
What to buy
Choose from one of the tastiest cheese selections in the city at La Fermetteon Rue Montorgueil and vacuum-pack your selection to bring home.
Know before you go

5 . Where can you find a nice place to relax on holiday for both you and your children? Well, I suggest you try the beautiful and green Isle of Wight (IOW). The Isle of Wight is one of the main tourist attractions. Here is some information on a few of the attractions on the IOW.
Dinosaur Isle
It is located in Sandown, a seaside town on the southeast coast. It’s a large, lovely museum, both fun and educational. Here you can see a large fossil collection of all kinds of dinosaurs, as well as a gift shop. You can walk into the past and then the future, learning about the history and the development of the civilization of dinosaurs (恐龙) that lived 120 million years ago.
Robin Hill Country Park
The park is in the beautiful countryside, and is suitable for children’s parties and games. It has five new gardens, and offers great opportunities to see and take pictures of the rare red squirrels.
The West of the Wight
Here we have the Marine Aquarium, the Archaeology Exhibition and the Model Railway. They offer another opportunity to combine entertainment (娱乐) with learning. This is a great place to see ancient boats crossing the narrow strait between the island and the mainland.
The Wight Bus Museum
This museum is run completely by unpaid volunteers. It has a bus collection stored in what was once a warehouse (仓库). Most of the buses in the museum date back to around the 1910’s.
With all of these choices, what are you waiting for? IOW Tourism welcomes you!

6 . Washington Square Park, Manhattan
Its central fountain (喷泉) and Washington Arch (拱门) are immediately recognizable because they’re often seen in films and on television, and the park serves as the center of the famous Manhattan neighborhood. People of all ages cool themselves off here, while musicians from around the globe play for a crowd. The park, rich in history, remains one of the jewels in the park system, serving local residents, chess players, students, performers and tourists.
Van Cortlandt Park, The Bronx
The park gets visitors from the Bronx seeking a bit of calm, and a place with real nature. It’s home to the country’s oldest golf course as well as the oldest building in the Bronx, the Van Cortlandt House Museum, which hosted George Washington on a few occasions during the Revolutionary War. Facilities include a pool, tennis courts and plenty of spots for baseball, soccer, and music.
Maria Hernandez Park, Bushwick, Brooklyn
The park was renamed after Maria Hernandez. Today it feels like a big party, with shopping, a mix of food and music performances in the central courtyard. It’s a park with a lot of personality, but it’s important to say it’s about the Latinx community first. You’ll find the majority of people here speak Spanish and come from Latin America.
Astoria Park, Queens
It works hard for the people of Queens, offering, as many parks do, a calm, green place. Its location is close to a river. Its facilities strengthen the community feel, with a large public pool, a soccer field and a big piece of grassland that serves as a site for regular events, including movie nights, concerts and fireworks shows. There’s also an annual festival.

The Terra-cotta Warriors | The Terracotta Army or the "Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses", is a collection of terracotta sculptures showing the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China. The purpose was to protect the emperor in his afterlife, and to make sure that he had people to rule over. Other terracotta non-military figures were also found in other pits and they include officials, acrobats, strongmen and musicians. Sadly, no photography or filming is allowed inside. |
Eiffel Tower | If you are planning a romantic getaway to Paris, don't think about posting a selfie in front of the Eiffel Tower. Taking photos is illegal, but the problem isn't with the building itself. The light show on it, designed by Pierre Bideau in 1985, is actually an artistic display and protected by copyright, Snopes.com explains. And since the lights go every five minutes, snapping a photo that doesn't break the law is impossible. |
Westminster Abbey | Westminster Abbey is a wonderful Gothic church. Yet no matter how historic or breathtaking it may be. you're not allowed to take photos. Luckily, there is a pretty good reason for it, according to the church's website: "We want you to take in its unique beauty and history without any distractions. We want to keep the sacred atmosphere of a church." |
The Sistine Chapel | As it's one of the most popular tourist attractions in the world, it's an upsetting thing that tourists aren't allowed to take photos around or inside. The chapel went under repair work funded by the Nippon Television Network Corporation of Japan. The costs ended up being $4.2 million. In return, Nippon got special rights to film and photograph the artwork. That copyright actually ended three years after each part was complete, but the Vatican decided to keep the ban in place to protect the precious artwork from harmful camera flashes. |

8 . On October 27, 2020, my friend and I boarded the first flight of our journey from Vancouver Island, to Peru, South America.
Twenty-four hours and four airports later we landed in Cusco, Peru, a city of one million people. Coming from Vancouver Island with only 100 feet above sea level, we knew that we were now at a much higher altitude (海拔) —over 11,000 feet—and needed time to get used to the scarcer oxygen (缺氧) levels! We followed the advice of other travellers and the locals: drink lots of coca (古柯) leaf tea and rest for a couple of hours before any activity.
We were soon hiking through the ruins (遗迹) and ancient castles of Cusco. Leaving Cusco the next day, we stopped at the Moray Ruins, which were used for farming by the Incas. Their size and unique design should be considered a lesson in historical engineering skills. This Inca site is one of the least known tourist destinations, but it’s one of the most interesting places to visit.
Arriving in the beautiful Sacred Valley, we stayed at Willka T’ika for the next week. This place is amazing. We enjoyed delicious meals, all made with local produce by loving Quechua people.
You can’t go to Peru without visiting Machu Picchu. The “road” up to the ruins is made up of endless switchbacks (急转弯), resulting in cold sweats (汗). It was worth the ride, though.
It was too soon before we were leaving Peru. We learned the unique history of Inca, Ouechua culture, and the farming methods still widely practiced. The best thing we took away returning home to Vancouver Island was how simple and caring the people are and how deeply they love the earth and everyone they meet.
