文章大意:这是一篇说明文。主要说明了我们受到外界干扰的原因。

1 . We’re fortunate to have access to the dynamic network technology, which provides rich resources for learning, connecting and entertaining ourselves.     1     The same tool that can enhance our work efficiency also has the power to trap us in a web of distractions (分心之事).

2     An astonishing 84.4% of us, on average, report being distracted at work. There are some usual suspects. Emails steal the attention of 26%. Phone calls and texts influence a massive 43%. Coworkers shift the attention of 27%. And the Internet, with its infinite source of information and entertainment, distracts 41% of us. What’s more, a survey reveals that an overwhelming 67% of workers say that their work is often affected by the excessive time spent on meetings and calls.

These distractions are more than mere annoyances.     3     It is their lasting impact that makes it impossible for us to focus on any single task. In this way, they greatly reduce our work efficiency.

A study offers more insight into our struggle with distractions. It found that our brain waves pulsate (搏动) at different frequencies depending on the type of external stimuli. The rhythm is faster for automatic stimuli but slows down for tasks we consciously choose to focus on.     4

Just think about it: You’re involved in a project, and then your phone receives a text message.     5     And regaining your focus might be harder than you anticipate, The same goes for that catchy news headline or an interesting social media post that catches your eye-pulling you away from your task and making you lost in the sea of distractions.

A.But it is double-edged.
B.Some distractions can be avoided.
C.Statistics reveal how common this issue is.
D.They’re also persistent and endless in getting our attention.
E.The sound of it is loud enough to interrupt your concentration.
F.Stimulating our interest and increasing the speed of our work are important.
G.This makes maintaining focus in the noisy world an ever-increasing challenge.

4 . Electronic media such as email, instant messaging, video games, and television, has influenced almost every aspect of our daily lives.     1     While some media exposure can be useful and informative (增进知识的), too much screen time takes away from other activities.

Screen time becomes a particularly important issue when discussing children’s use of media. Experts now recommend children’s screen time should be limited to no more than 2 hours per day, including television and non—school related computer usage.     2

Unfortunately, it appears that this recommendation is not followed in most families. One recent study found that children between the ages of 8 and 18 spend nearly 45 hours per week watching television, playing video games, and surfing the Internet.     3     Besides, much of the electronic media that makes up children’s screen time is filled with inappropriate (不合适的)   contents.

4     First, never allow televisions and computers in your child’s bedroom. Avoid using television, video games, and computer time as a reward for good behavior. Provide plenty of other recreational activities for your child to enjoy and set a good example for your child with regard to your own media usage.

It’s important to serve as a model of healthy electronics use for your children.     5     Keeping the TV on for background noise all the time and scrolling (滚屏) through your phone any time will teach your child bad habits.

A.Most children know more about electronics than adults do.
B.Kids easily grow dependent on technology for entertainment.
C.Parents should think of ways to manage their children’s screen time.
D.This is more time than they spend doing homework, or reading for pleasure.
E.However, the effect of being all the time in front of a screen is not entirely positive.
F.So before you watch your favorite TV series, remember to set a good example.
G.Children under the age of 2 are generally encouraged to have no screen time at all.

5 . Researchers have been trying to uncover the cause of a steady decline of drug and alcohol use in teens. Some suspect it’s due to anti-drug campaigns or the decline of cigarettes as a gateway drug. But another theory has begun to surface. Is a new drug replacing the old ones? Are smart phones taking their place?

I noticed that using my smart phone took away so many life experiences. I hadn’t minded before when my own phone could distract me, but now I felt annoyed when my friends or family used their phones when we were together. Sure it was uncomfortable at first, not having a clutch (紧握) to fall back on when I didn’t feel like talking. But we shouldn’t use our devices as the universal conversation avoider, or as our distraction from the discomfort of human interaction. How can we learn to interact when our phones are on hand at all times to prevent ourselves from doing so?

Still, smart phones can sometimes be wonderful tools. They allow us to take beautiful photos and help us connect with old friends and maintain long-distance relationships. They allow us to have an endless amount of information at our fingertips, and give us directions to whatever destinations. But we must consider how every tool smart phones provide us with can also influence our lives. Not only does smart phone and screen use have an effect on relationships, it can also shape an individual and the brain. Studies have shown that excessive Internet usage can cause increased depression, loneliness, and anxiety in adolescents.

So my advice to teens who feel the same way as I do? My decision to go without a phone was definitely extreme, considering our generation. So try ditching your phone for a week. Observe how it affects your relationships, your mood, and your presence. You just might end up feeling less stressed, happier, and more connected.

1. How does the author introduce the topic?
A.By presenting study findings.
B.By creating a new theory.
C.By asking questions.
D.By doing research.
2. What is mainly discussed about smart phones in Paragraph 2?
A.They are perfectly designed.
B.Their features are striking.
C.Their operations are too complex.
D.They have an impact on social life.
3. What may affect teenagers’ mental health according to Paragraph 3?
A.Bad family relationship.
B.Too much Internet time.
C.Easy access to smart phones.
D.Harmful online information.
4. What does the underlined word “ditching” in the last paragraph probably mean?
A.Giving up.B.Giving away.C.Turning down.D.Turning back.

6 . Last month, I began my own two-week-long digital detox. I got the inspiration from the tech writer Paul Miller, who got away from the Internet for a whole year. It was not worth mentioning as against the time Miller spent offline, but it was the longest I had gone through without almost any Internet in 13 years.

Why did I do it? For a while I felt the urge to try fully disconnecting to free myself from the endless work. I wanted to take a break from it all for a couple of weeks at least to see what would happen. After all, throughout the last decade, I’ve been online 24 – 7, overreacting to my email inbox and social feed (传送) – living in a world where the line between the digital world and the real world gets a bit unclear at times.

I haven’t of course forgotten that I’m CEO of a social media company. My work is built around the premise (前提) that being connected makes our lives richer, more rewarding and more efficient. Still, I’d forgotten one key lesson along the way: moderation. As more and more of my life was spent scanning social feed and checking out my inbox, I realized that I needed to step back and get a whole new perspective.

So on my winter vacation to Mexico, I took a break from being active on the Internet for the entire trip. For the whole 14 days, I ate a lot of delicious fish tacos, surfed and fixed up my cottage on the beach. I didn’t write or send any emails. I didn’t scan any Top 10 lists of feed. The one I did give myself was checking my email inbox occasionally—just to make sure an emergency wasn’t unfolding while I was away.

What I learned from my short experiment was actually not too unlike what Miller learned. I didn’t end up discovering that technology is evil. In fact, I found myself reflecting on how technology over the last few years had let me experience some of the most rewarding and eventful moments of my life.

1. Why did the author begin digital detox for two weeks?
A.Because Miller recommended him to do so.
B.Because he was tired of his empty life.
C.Because he wanted to live a digital life.
D.Because he intended to experience an Internet-free life.
2. Which can replace the underlined word in the third paragraph?
A.to a large degreeB.in an honest way
C.in an appropriate wayD.to a very small degree
3. Why did the author still check out his email?
A.To deal with emergencies.B.For the sake of his health.
C.To find some delicious food to eat.D.To watch Top 10 lists closely.
4. What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A.The author holds an objective attitude towards technology.
B.The author finds technology is harmful.
C.The author will advise digital detox completely.
D.The author will no longer use the Internet.
