文章大意:本文是说明文。文章主要讲述植树造林的相关情况。

1 . Around the world there is an increase in the demand for reforestation. This is because the consumption of the forests has affected not only the animals living in the area but also the people. And reforestation is about the rebuilding of the forests that have been severely destroyed. It can offer a lot of benefits when the recreation is successful.

1    This includes collecting seedlings (幼苗) that are native in the area to make sure that there is a natural reconstruction of the area. Some additional trees which are not native in the area also need to be planted.     2    The importance of having multiple species of trees is considered to make sure that the needs of other species that will live and grow in the area are met.

Destroying a forest is easy but rebuilding it is really hard.     3    The plan must include accurate spacing on plants and trees. This is to ensure that they won’t cover each other while they grow.     4

The forest greatly helps in the reduction of the air pollution. Trees are responsible for the production of oxygen and absorption of carbon dioxide.    5    It is there for a reason just like everyone else on this planet.

There cannot be a better way to restore the balance of nature than to increase the forest area. We must remember that the forest is a natural habitat of wide variety of animals and plants. In this manner, there is no substitute for reforestation.

A.And global warming will speed up the destruction of forests.
B.Keep in mind that you can’t just plant the seedlings anywhere.
C.Recreations won’t work until all these details have been considered.
D.So a good plan is needed to make the reforestation a successful one.
E.The forest also protects us from typhoons and other natural disasters.
F.There are many things to be done when it comes to this type of effort.
G.It is important to make sure that they are suited to the climate and the type of soil.

文章大意:本文属于说明文,介绍了一种特殊的鸟儿“向蜜鸟”,它通过带领寻找蜂蜜的人找到蜂巢这种方法让自己得到想要的蜂蜡。

2 . Honey from the African forest is not only a kind of natural sugar, it is also delicious. Most people, and many animals, like eating it. However, the only way for them to get that honey is to find a wild bees' nest and take the honey from it. Often, these nests are high up in trees, and it is difficult to find them. In parts of Africa, though, people and animals looking for honey have a strange and unexpected helper—a little bird called a honey guide.

The honey guide does not actually like honey, but it does like the wax in the beehives. The little bird cannot reach this wax, which is deep inside the bees' nest. So, when it finds a suitable nest, it looks for someone to help it. The honey guide gives a loud cry that attracts the attention of both passing animals and people. Once it has their attention, it flies through the forest, waiting from time to time for the curious animal or person as it leads them to the nest. When they finally arrive at the nest, the follower reaches in to get at the delicious honey as the bird patiently waits and watches. Some of the honey, and the wax, always falls to the ground, and this is when the honey guide takes its share.

Scientists do not know why the honey guide likes eating the wax, but it is very distance away. They will quickly arrive whenever a beekeeper is taking honey from his beehives, and will even enter churches when beeswax candles are being lit.

4 . Where did the idea of “white bikes” come from? In the 1960s, a group of cycling fans came up with an idea. They believed that it would be better for everybody if cars weren’t allowed in the city centre and only bicycles were. They were hopeful that this would help to save energy, reduce pollution and provide free public transport. The group painted hundreds of bicycles white and placed them in many areas around Amsterdam for people to use. Anyone was allowed to take them and use them for short journeys. People would leave the bike in the place where they finished their journey, so that someone else could then take it and use it from there. Soon after, however, problems came up and the “white bikes” all disappeared — thieves stole them all in a matter of weeks!

Why did the group come up with the idea of “white bikes”?
A.To ensure traffic safety.B.To reduce transport costs.

6 . The world itself is becoming much smaller by using modern traffic and modern communication means. Life today is much easier than it was hundreds of years ago, but it has brought new problems. One of the biggest problems is pollution. To pollute means to make things dirty. Pollution comes in many ways. We see it, smell it, drink it and even hear it.

Man has been polluting the earth. The more people, the more pollution. Many years ago,the problem was not so serious because there were not so many people. When the land was used up or the river was dirty in one place, man moved to another place. But this is no longer true.Man is now slowly polluting the whole world.

Air pollution is still the most serious. It’s bad for all living things in the world, but it is not the only one kind of pollution. Water pollution kills our fish and pollutes our drinking water. Noise pollution makes us angry more easily.

Many countries are making rules to fight pollution. They stop people from burning coal in houses and factories from putting dirty smoke into the air. Pollution by SO2 is now the most dangerous kind of air pollution. It is caused by heavy traffic. We are sure that if there are fewer people driving, there will be less air pollution.

The earth is our home. We must take care of it.That means keeping the land, water and air clean. And we must take care of the rise in pollution at the same time.

1. What makes our world become much smaller?
A.Science development.B.The rise in population.
C.The pollution on the earth.D.The strong wind.
2. What was life like hundreds of years ago?
A.It was much easier than today.B.It was much harder than today.
C.It was the same as today.D.It was hard to describe.
3. What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 1 mean?
A.Rubbish.B.Water pollution.
C.Air pollution.D.Noise pollution.
4. According to the text, how can we reduce pollution?
A.Making rules to fight pollution.B.Drinking as little water as possible.
C.Stop buying new things.D.Only walking to work.

7 .

When the natural climate changes due to global warming, it can surely affect seals. The majority of them live in the Antarctic region so as the ice is melting, their natural habitat can be seriously affected. These changes don’t take place overnight. They can be the result of many years of additional temperatures in the area. The seals then have to find ways to adapt.

Seals depend on the cool air currents to bring plenty of food for them. When the temperature gets higher there is less and less food and the seal population starts to shrink. Mothers aren’t healthy enough to feed their babies. Many of them end up abandoned as the mothers have to leave to find their own source of food.

The fact that their desire to produce young can be changed by the warmer temperature is frightening too. It is also believed that the warmer temperature can allow different diseases and viruses to attack the seals. This is a huge concern as they can rapidly wipe out huge numbers of seals out there.

However, these changes in climate and temperature aren’t all bad for other species of seals. Scientists have found that those living in warmer climates are producing more young due to the changes. Research also shows that the females are moving further to find food and water. When they are out of the reach of the governing males, they are more willing to accept the moves of other males in the group.

This is good news too because it means that there will be more selection in the gene pool (基因库) for future generations. It can help the seals as a species adapt to changes in their natural environment more easily.

The climate change problem for seals is directly linked to humans. When we take action to change what we let out into the environment, we will make positive changes for the seals. However, it is going to take a very long time to reverse (彻底改变) the effects of what has already been done.

1. What does the author regard climate changes for seals as?
A.A double-edged sword.
B.An unavoidable disaster for existence.
C.A mirror of evolution.
D.A requirement for more choice in the gene pool.
2. What will happen to the seals in warmer climates?
A.Their number will be on the increase.
B.The female seals will be in the lead.
C.Their genes will change a great deal.
D.The females will keep away from the males.
3. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A.The Importance of Protecting Seals
B.Seals’ Adaptation to Climate Change
C.How Climate Change Affects Seals
D.Why Are Seals Becoming Less and Less

9 . After years of debate, gray wolves were reintroduced (重新引进) to Yellowstone National Park. Fourteen wolves were caught in Canada and moved to the park. By 2016, the Yellowstone wolf population had grown to more than 170.

Gray wolves once were seen here and there in the Yellowstone area and other pans of United States, but they were gradually displaced by human development. By the 1920s, wolves had disappeared from the Yellowstone area. They went farther north into the deep forests of Canada, where there were fewer humans around. The disappearance of the wolves had many unexpected results. Deer and elk populations—major food sources(来源) for the wolf—grew rapidly. These animals ate large amounts of plants, which reduced plant diversity(多样性) in the park. With the disappearance of gray wolves, coyote (草原狼) populations also grew quickly. The coyotes killed a great number of red foxes in the park, and completely drove away the park’s beavers (河狸).

As early as 1966, biologists asked the government to consider reintroducing wolves to Yellowstone Park. They hoped that wolves would be able to control the elk and coyote problems. Many framers were against the plan because they feared that wolves would kill their farm animals or pets.

The government spent nearly 30 years thinking lip a plan to reintroduce the wolves. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service carefully monitors and manages the wolf packs in Yellowstone. Today, the debate continues over how well the gray wolf is fitting in at Yellowstone. Elk, deer, and coyote populations are down, while beavers and red foxes have made a comeback. The Yellowstone wolf project has been a valuable experiment to help biologists decide whether to reintroduce wolves to other parts of the country as well.

1. What is the text mainly about?
A.Wildlife research in the United States.
B.Plain diversity in the Yellowstone area.
C.A war between American farmers and gray wolves.
D.The reintroduction of wolves to Yellowstone Park.
2. What does the underlined word “displaced” in paragraph 2 mean?
A.Killed one by one.
B.Separated from relatives.
C.Forced to move out.
D.Followed secretly.
3. Which is an unexpected result of the disappearance of gray wolves?
A.The number of deer increased fast.
B.More people moved into the park.
C.Red foxes ate too many plants.
D.Beavers in the park were all killed.
4. Biologists suggested the government reintroduce the wolves because ________.
A.they believed it could keep the park back to normal
B.they knew the government was considering that too
C.they were sure it would solve the elk and coyote problems
D.they thought farmers needn’t worry about animals and pets
5. What is the author’s attitude towards the Yellowstone wolf project?
A.Doubtful.B.Positive.
C.Negative (反对).D.Uncaring.

文章大意:本文是一篇记叙文。文章讲述了Matthew Henson是如何成为了一名优秀水手的,并介绍他在认识罗伯特·皮尔里之后两个人共同奋斗,历尽艰辛去北极探险的故事。
10 . In 1880, fourteen-year-old Matthew Henson loved to hear sailors tell tales of their exciting lives at sea. The travel, the adventure, the danger, and the steady pay were all attracting young Henson. One day, he found a job as a cabin boy on a beautiful ship called the Katie Hinds. For the next five years, Henson sailed around the world. With the help of the ship’s captain and other members of the crew, Henson learned mathematics, navigation, history, geography, and many other subjects. By the time he left the Katie Hinds in 1885, Henson was well educated and had become an excellent seaman.
Unable to find work anywhere else, Henson took a job in a hat shop in Washington, D.C. One day in 1887, a man came in to buy a hat. The man, Robert Peary, asked the owner if he knew anyone with experience at sea. Peary would soon travel to South America for the U.S. government. He needed experienced men to accompany him. The shop owner knew about his young employee’s skills and experience on ocean journeys, so he introduced Peary to Henson.
Using his map-reading and sailing skills, Henson proved himself to be a worthy and smart seaman. Peary soon made Henson his assistant (助理), and they became close friends. One day Peary told Henson about his real dream: to be the first man to stand on “the top of the world” at the North Pole. He asked Henson to help him make his dream come true. Over the next five years, the two explorers made two trips together to the Arctic. However, they were not able to reach the pole either time. The cold, wind, and ice were worse than either of them had ever imagined.
In 1908, Peary and Henson were ready to make their final attempt at reaching the North Pole. Both men were over forty years old. The years of hardship in the arctic cold had made them suffer a lot. This would be their last chance. With four Inuit (因纽特) guides, they made a mad rush straight across the ice toward the pole. Peary’s feet were injured and he had to be pulled on a dogsled. In April 1909, Henson’s instruments showed they were standing at the North Pole. Together Henson and Peary planted the American flag in the snow.
In later years, Robert Peary and Henson were greatly honored for their achievements. Today, the two friends and fellow explorers lie in heroes’ graves not far apart in the Arlington National Cemetery.
1. In paragraph1, the author shows how Henson became ________.
A.a wonderful seaman

C.a good shop assistant
D.a successful learner
2. Paragraph 2 mainly tells us ________.
A.why Matthew Henson went to the hat shop
