文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章介绍了雪绒花这种植物生长在高山地区,介绍了其特性和象征意义。

2 . Imagine you are on a cold mountain with steep rocks around. As you climb higher, the air gets thinner and the sun’s rays stronger. Just before you reach the snowline, you find what you came for—a small white flower, the edelweiss, which only grows in alpine areas.

Plants face many challenges living in alpine areas, and only 200 kinds of plants can grow there. Plants rely on oxygen, water, and sunlight to make their own food through the process of photosynthesis. The alpine means less CO2, which makes the process more difficult. It also brings plants closer to the sun. The sunlight is so strong that it can burn a plant’s leaves. There is little water here, so the soil is dry and rocky. You also won’t find high trees because the cold wind would blow them over!

Alpine plants have advantages that help them survive the bad conditions. Like all alpine plants, the edelweiss stays close to the ground to avoid the wind. The cold water is deep underground, so the edelweiss grows very deep roots. Its leaves have a thick covering, which protects the plant from the wind and the sun’s bright rays. All these special characteristics help it grow, but very slowly.

The edelweiss can live in the conditions, but humans can’t. Climbing in the high and cold mountains is dangerous and difficult. This is why the edelweiss became such a special flower. Long ago, a young man would pick an edelweiss flower to prove his love to a girl, although it was risky. Many men died while trying. Getting the flower proved that the man was physically strong, brave, and devoted.

Alpine plants can’t spread seeds, so it’s difficult for new plants to grow. Once all the edelweiss flowers are gone in an area, they will not regroup. Governments help protect the edelweiss because it is considered an endangered plant.

1. The first two paragraphs mainly describe ________ .
A.the process of photosynthesisB.the appearance of the edelweiss
C.the growing environment of the edelweissD.the challenge of mountain climbing
2. The edelweiss can survive in the alpine conditions partly because ________.
A.it grows high and strongB.it can get more sunlight
C.its leaves’ covering is thinD.its deep roots can get water
3. What can we learn about the edelweiss from the text?
A.It is planted in large quantities.B.It is a symbol of bravery.
C.It is a shade loving plant.D.It spreads its seeds by wind.
4. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A.To introduce a special flower.B.To compare different alpine plants.
C.To warn people not to pick flowers.D.To encourage people to protect plants.

文章大意:这是一篇记叙文。文章讲述Keet在第二个孩子出生后,成为了Planetarian,开始改变自己的饮食为全球气候做出自己贡献。

3 . After the birth of her second child in 2019, Keet was motivated to make changes by the thought of what kind of world her children were going to have. “I was totally awake in the middle of the night having climate anxiety,” she said. “I just brought this person into the world—what does her future look like? What does my son’s future look like?”

Keet started the seeds of Planetarian Life based on her experiences doing Meatless Monday, but with fewer restrictions and a larger sense of purpose. “There’s vegetarianism(素食主义), but these things don’t describe my why,” she said. “I’m eating this way for the planet.”

That’s the most basic definition of who a planetarian is, according to Keet: someone who is changing the way they eat and live for the good of the Earth.

With Planetarian Life, Keet decided to take a small-steps approach. Instead of cutting out meat entirely or working with unfamiliar ingredients, planetarian eating works around making small replacements in your usual meals on your own schedule and to your own preferred tastes.

This can be as simple as using chickpeas instead of rotisserie chicken to make chickpea “chicken” salad or cooking a big batch of quinoa to keep on hand for quick skillet vegetable bowls throughout the week.

Like compound interest, the minor changes made to familiar meals add up to a bigger lifestyle change over time—and they are easier to stick with than drastic cuts. Because no foods are banned from the planetarian way of eating, it’s up to every individual to take it as far as they want to go.

1. Why did Keet want to make changes in 2019?
A.She could not sleep well at night.
B.Her children’s future career worried her.
C.Her second child was not healthy enough.
D.She wanted to make the world a better place.
2. What does being a planetarian mean according to Keet?
A.Removing meat from daily meals.
B.Changing one’s usual meals completely.
C.Taking on a job about protecting the Earth.
D.Adopting an environmental-friendly way of eating.
3. What is the advantage of Planetarian Life according to the last paragraph?
A.It is healthier.B.It saves more time.
C.It provides more choices.D.It helps shape good character.
4. Which of the following words can best describe Keet?
A.Anxious and selfish.B.Responsible and considerate.
C.Hardworking and independent.D.Knowledgeable and quick-thinking.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。这篇文章主要介绍了马达加斯加的扎哈米纳国家公园。

4 . Set 40 kilometers northeast of the city of Ambatondrazaka, the Zahamena National Park's landscape consists of (……组成) valleys surrounded by a flowing mountain range.

It has an overall land coverage of 64, 300 hectares, but only 42, 000 hectares is open to the public due to strict conservation (环境保护) reasons. It receives an average yearly rainfall level of about 6 feet and experiences frequent rain showers even during the dry season between April and October.

One really interesting thing about the Zahamena National Park is that the unique territory of its highland has paved the way for the development of several ecosystems that exist at the same time in this park. This is the reason why the types of wildlife living in one area are different in another, which makes it quite exciting to explore.

This protected area is divided into two parts, with a separate piece of land in the middle where many small villages are situated. These villages are inhabited (居住) by the members of the Sihanaka and Betsimisaraka ethnic groups.

The Zahamena National Park gets its name from the local Zahana Mena tree, an uncommon type of hardwood that grows in the lower regions of this protected area. It is characterized by its resilient (坚韧的) wood that can be rather challenging to cut, join, shape and carve even with modern tools.

Established as a strict natural highland reserve in 1927 (and one of the first of its kind in all of Madagascar), the Zahamena National Park was officially given its national park status (地位) in 1997 and was eventually opened to the public. Due to its remarkable territory and unique biodiversity, this national park was later listed as a key part of the collective UNESCO World Heritage Site called the Rainforests of the Atsinanana in 2007.

1. What can we learn about the Zahamena National Park?
A.It is surrounded by the city of Ambatondrazaka.
B.It receives little rainfall during the dry season.
C.It is partially open to the public.
D.It is divided into three parts.
2. What has contributed to several ecosystems in the Zahamena National Park?
A.The strict conservation rules.B.The unique weather conditions.
C.The special territory of its highland.D.The influence of several local villages.
3. What is the Zahamena National Park named after?
A.An ethnic group.B.A type of local tree.
C.A traditional tool.D.A nearby city.
4. What is the text mainly about?

文章大意:本文是新闻报道。文章主要介绍野牛使栖息地变得更好。

5 . It takes courage to live on Montana’s short-grass prairie (大草原). The native people successfull, adapted to the difficult environment over many centuries. For the last 150 years, wild animals have given the basic habitat up to cows, which makes this rare habitat decline ecologically.

Today, though, parts of the landscape are being shaped by a different resident—the North American plains bison (野牛). Tribes and conservation organizations have recently started bringing the bison back. And scientists studying the returns are discovering that getting the 900 kg grazer back in its native ecosystem could be a key to the future of the prairie.

An adult bison eats about 11 kg of grass a day. The grasses adapt to their search for food. Vegetation across the plains uses the nutrients in their waste. Birds pull out their fur from bushes to keep the heat of nests from passing out.

Bison also shape the land literally. They roll in the dust and create muddy areas that hold water after rainstorms. After the bison move on, insects flourish in these pools and become a feast for birds and small mammals. Pronghorn antelope survive by following their tracks through deep winter snows.

Plains bison spent thousands of years engineering a distinctive grassland ecology from Northern Canada through Montana to Mexico. But more than a century ago, this influence suddenly stopped. A few decades of killing led the number of bison to fall suddenly from 60 million to barely 800 living wild in the US and Canada by 1889.

Today, however, bison are getting a second chance. Tribal reservations are at the forefront of their recovery, taking extra bison from Yellowstone National Park and restoring them to treaty lands. Now some scientists are keeping close watch on the changes of the lands after the return of bison.

1. Why are bison brought back to the Montana’s prairie?
A.They provide food for wild animals.B.They play a vital role in its native ecosystem.
C.They experience a sharp drop in numbers.D.They can hardly adapt to other environments.
2. What can we learn from Paragraph 3 and Paragraph 4?
A.Birds keep warm by the leaves from bushes.
B.Pronghorn antelopes help Bison survive the winter.
C.Small mammals and birds could get more food.
D.The bison’s waste does harm to the growth of grasses.
3. What might the author continue talking about?
A.How bison get the second chance.
B.How the return of bison affects the lands.
C.How scientists restore bison to treaty lands.
D.How the number of bison is back to its previous level.
4. What can be a suitable title for the passage?
A.The Habitat Is on the Ecological Decline
B.The Wild Animals Are Adapting to Bison
C.The Bison Transform the Habitat for the Better
D.The Tribes Try to Bring the Bison Back to Prairie

7 . If the three Rs (reduce, reuse and recycle) is a guideline to save the planet, garbage-sorting is where the   efforts start. Since May 1, Beijing has started to carry out mandatory garbage-sorting in new efforts to better protect the environment. Under the new regulation, residents are required to classify household waste into four categories: kitchen, recyclable, hazardous and other waste. People who fail to sort their garbage properly can be fined from 50 to 200 yuan, reported Xinhua.

Some residential communities in Beijing have introduced rewards to encourage residents to sort their garbage. According to Xinhua, residents can earn points by classifying their domestic waste correctly and then exchange the points they accumulate for daily necessities such as soap.

Garbage sorting practices have reached over 70 percent of housing estates in 18 cities, including Shanghai,     Xiamen and Hangzhou, according to the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development. Shanghai first enacted a mandatory garbage-sorting regulation in July 2019 and has had a 90 percent compliance (服从) rate among its housing estates.

According to a report by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, over 90 percent of the public believe that garbage-sorting is important for the protection of the environment. However, garbage-sorting is still a big problem in China. Only 30 percent of participants said they think they are completely sorting their waste, the report noted. According to Xinhua, it’s partly because many people lack the willingness to sort their own waste. Also, some previous garbage regulations didn’t include fines for people who failed to obey them.

“It’s a must to have a legal guarantee to promote garbage sorting,” Liu Jianguo, a professor from Tsinghua University, told China Daily, “Aside from China, many countries like Germany, Spain and Britain, also ask people to sort waste into specific categories. In Japan, there is a fixed time for the sorting of each kind of garbage and littering.”

1. What can we learn about the new regulation in Beijing?
A.It hasn’t been put into use yet.
B.Residents can sort the garbage as they like.
C.People can get money if they classify their domestic waste correctly.
D.Those who can’t sort the garbage as the new rule requires shall be fined.
2. What’s the problem in garbage sorting in China?
A.Most people are unaware of its importance in protecting environment.
B.Some people don’t want to take the trouble to sort the garbage.
C.Only residents in big cities can sort the trash correctly.
D.The government doesn’t have enough money to support garbage sorting.
3. What can we infer from Liu Jianguo’s words?
A.It’s difficult to carry out garbage sorting in China.
B.Some laws in garbage-sorting are needed.
C.People in developed countries can better sort the garbage.
D.We should learn from Japan.
4. What’s the best title of the passage?
A.Garbage sorting, a new start in ChinaB.New regulations in Beijing
C.Argument on garbage sortingD.How to sort domestic garbage

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章讲述了荷兰一个城市将成为世界上第一个禁止在公共场所投放肉类广告的城市,以减少消费和温室气体排放。

10 . A Dutch city will become the first in the world to ban meat advertisements from public spaces in an effort to reduce consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. The ban also covers holiday flights, fossil fuels and cars that run on fossil fuels. The ban is delayed until 2024 due to existing contracts with companies that sell the products.

Haarlem, which lies to the west of Amsterdam and has a population of about 160,000,will bring the ban into effect from 2024 after meat was added to a list of products deemed to contribute to the climate crisis. Advertisements will not be allowed on Haarlem’s buses, shelters and screens in public spaces, prompting complaints from the meat sector that the government is “going too far in telling people what’s best for them”.

Recent studies suggest global food production is responsible for one-third of all planet-heating emissions, with the use of animals for meat accounting for twice the pollution of producing plant-based foods. Forests that absorb carbon dioxide are cut down for the food of animals while fertilisers used for growing their feed are rich in nitrogen(氮),which can contribute to air pollution, water pollution and climate change. Livestock also produces large quantities of methane(甲烷),a powerful greenhouse gas.

Zlggy Klazes,a councillor from the GroenLinks party, said she had not known the city would be the world’s first to enforce such a policy when she proposed it. She told the Haarlem105 radio channel:“We are not about what people are baking and roasting in their own kitchen;if people want to continue eating meat, it’s fine. We can’t tell people there’s a climate crisis and meanwhile, encourage them to buy products that are part of the cause. Of course, there are a lot of people who find the decision shocking and unreasonable, but there are also a lot of people who think it’s fine.”

1. What does the meat sector think of the ban?
A.Disapproving.
B.Neutral.
C.Indifferent.
D.Positive.
2. What do recent studies show?
A.Nitrogen is harmful to the environment.
B.Methane mainly comes from livestock.
C.Meat consumption causes more pollution.
D.People cut down trees for human habitation.
3. What message do Ziggy Klazes’s words convey?
A.She is the first to ban meat advertisement.
B.She is in favor of banning meat advertising.
C.She emphasizes the advantage of eating meat.
D.She cares about what people cook in the kitchen
4. What is the best title for the text?
A.Fossil fuels are banned in Dutch city.
B.Dutch city decreases meat production.
C.Dutch city bans meat advertisements in public.
D.Greenhouse gas emissions are limited in Dutch city.
