1 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

I bought Jude as a tiny puppy after my previous dog died in a horrible incident. My heart was just broken and it was only having Jude that brought me back round from that pain. He was a lovely and happy pet.

For the first time in years, our whole family had gone on holiday together. It was only for four days but it meant my dog Jude was going to be looked after by someone outside the family. I was a bit nervous about it. After struggling for several days, I eventually booked him into a home boarding place in Belfast. I was worried about him the moment he was dropped off, because he had never been in kennels before.

The emotions we have gone through in the last few days have been awful. Jude was used to the comforts of a home and he had never been on his own before. Thus, I was worried about him at the bottom of my heart. Then unfortunately, the accident happened.

We went away on Monday, July 11, and he was missing on the 12th after being left in an exercise area. But it was on Thursday that I was told he had gone though I messaged the kennels every day to see how he was.

The moment we got home, we went looking for him but we didn’t know the area. My daughters Karla and Leanne took a tent and camped out to keep looking for Jude and they con-firmed a number of sightings of him. There were leaflet drops, drones put up and ground searches and posters. Social media was flooded with his photo and we got news of lots of sightings which helped. On Sunday night, my grandson Caidon who is nine, his mum Ashleigh and their dog Bonnie, went with us to the location of a reported sighting by a kind man and there Jude was.

The Dog Who Saved Our Family

We met Max at the pickup area of Alaska Airlines five years ago. He was a standard poodle(狮子狗)born on Valentine’s Day in 2017, and came to us in a small blue box. We had adopted him from an out-of-state raiser who posted the news on the social network. Our only request was that he have a calm behavior, able to bear the pushing and hugging of our eight-year-old daughter and six-year-old son.

We were a sweet little family:me,my husband, and our children, Sophie and Jake. But for years I’d felt as if we wouldn’t really be complete until we had a dog. Also, my husband worked in a business company and had to travel some 200 days a year for his job, and I knew I’d feel safer with a large animal sleeping by the door.

When we opened the box, the last piece of our puzzle fell into place. With his black hair and intelligent eyes,Max was beautiful. He was so small that he fit into the palm of my hand, his big paws lapping over the sides. He was also a little bit scared. As I pulled him close,I felt his heart pound and wondered if we’d done the right thing, taking him from his mother. But it was too late. Sophie and Jake were already fighting over who would hold him next and who should have the right to take a bath for him.

Over the following months, we spent endless hours watching Max play with his Kong toy or roll around the living room floor. Like most poodles, he was smart. He mastered house-training quickly and never chewed on our furniture or shoes. He considered himself one of us.

5 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

It was a lovely spring morning in the mountains of my home. Here was full of natural atmosphere. The sky was blue, the sun was warm, and the air was fresh. As driving along the winding road, I could see thousands of wild flowers in bloom. When I turned round, I slowed down as I saw some volunteers picking up garbage along the side of the road. I just smiled as I saw them doing some cleaning in spring for Mother Earth and my mind suddenly floated back in time to another spring morning long ago.

When my children were younger, I used to walk along a small route around the lake near my home. It was also on a spring morning that I noticed much garbage lying along the route. The next day, I brought a big garbage bag and started to slowly pick up the garbage along my way. All kinds of deserted objects lay all over the floor. There were pop cans, plastic water bottles, wrappers for candy bars, empty chip bags, pieces of broken fishing line and even an old shoe. Every time I stopped, I picked up a piece of garbage. And I even fished some garbage out of the edge of the water. By the time I circled the lake, the garbage bag had been nearly full.

Tired but happy, I put the bag in an empty garbage can. I stopped before I headed home and took one last look at the lake as the sun set. It looked more beautiful than ever and I felt like the angels were looking down upon it with me and sharing my smiles.

I always think that at times this world’s problems can seem overwhelming and you may wonder what you can do to make a difference. But the truth is that every good thing you do matters a lot! I do believe every time I stop to pick up a single piece of garbage, I can make a difference. As my children are adults now, I decide to spend more time protecting the environment.

2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

I begin to encourage others to develop the environmental awareness.

6 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

I didn’t see the thin plastic tape running across the bread bag when I put the bread in my shopping cart or when I checked out. It wasn’t until I unpacked the bread at home that I realized that I’d broken the rules again.

That stupid plastic tape joined the long list of mistakes I made in just one week of trying to eat plastic-free. Last month, I challenged myself to purchase a week’s worth of food without bringing home any plastic. That meant no yogurt containers or plastic packages.

I chose a budget of $115 (roughly half-way between the average weekly grocery bill for a family of two in Massachusetts). On Saturday afternoon, I pulled into the parking lot of a well-known zero-waste shopping center.

I started in the produce section, where I typically got a plastic bag of organic baby carrots. This time, I could not go there because every vegetable in the organic section was packed in plastic containers. But I found some beautiful carrots among the non-organic produce. Then I saw the plastic price labels hanging off their rubber bands. I rolled my cart past the green beans and grapes, all inside the plastic. I weighed loose apples, onions and sweet potatoes. My anxiety kicked in — a feeling that I wouldn’t have enough. So, I bought a head of cabbage.

I tapped prices into the calculator on my phone. Leaving the produce section, I was in good shape, at $32. It was time to search for protein.

I headed to the meat counter. Again, everything was prepackaged in plastic. But the man behind the glass kindly agreed to put some chicken and meat, separately, in paper bags. Together they were $21.

Tofu, cheese, yogurt and pretty much everything in the dairy section were prepackaged in plastic. Even the bottled milk had a plastic cap. But there were lots of eggs in those paper bags.

1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
At checkout, I still had $62 left but I could not find anything else without plastic.

7 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Many schools make it a rule to check students’ school bags. They do this for a variety of reasons, many of which are linked to keeping pupils safe. Schools do not want anything dangerous or distracting kids from their schooling to find their way inside. Recent years have seen many terrible accidents happening in schools, making both teachers and parents worried about the problem.

Mrs. Nabors, a teacher at Jefferson Elementary, feels that all of her kids understand what materials they are not permitted to bring to school. This explains why she seldom takes trouble to do a bag check in her class. However, last Friday Mrs. Nabors and her students had just finished their morning work when the teacher realized something seemed to be wrong, so she suddenly declared to the class that the bag search was about to begin. On hearing the announcement, all her pupils quickly placed their bags on the desk, waiting for checking.

Searching the school bags one by one, she didn’t find anything that isn’t permitted to bring to school. What she saw were things usually seen in Elementary school pupils’ school bags: text books, pencil boxes, calculators (计算器), snacks and food for lunch. Nearly all the students accepted the check peacefully, and some even offered to give the teacher a hand. There was one girl, though, who was watching everything in anxiety. When it’s her turn to be checked, eyes to eyes, Mrs. Nabors’ immediately sensed that the second-grader was carrying more than simply a forbidden game in her luggage.

When the teacher went to get the bag, she noticed something moving within. She’ d seen a lot of unusual things that kids had slipped in, but the wiggling (扭动) shape was new to her. She had never discovered anything disturbing … until then.

8 . 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

I often go climbing with my friend Mel Olsen, whom I'd met in a Face-book group. Two years ago, on December 30, when I was 16, she and I drove to Oregon to tackle 11, 240-foot Mount Hood. My parents were happy I'd finally found a hobby.

It's safer to start winter climbs at night when there's less risk of the sun melting the snowpack. That day, we started at 3 a. m, following the paths alongside the ski runs. The temperature was about14 degrees. Along the way, we met two other climbers, and the four of us continued on together.

After about five hours, we reached Devil's Kitchen, a plateau at about 10, 000 feet, just before the final push to the top. By this point, the wind was violent. My exposed skin felt as though it were burning. The other climbers decided to turn back, but Mel and I went ahead. We had ice axes, helmets, and crampons (冰爪). We were prepared for the climb.

The trail we followed grew narrower and steeper. Suddenly, I heard a crack, and a whole block of ice broke off the ice step, right under my foot.

In an instant, I fell backward. I could hear Mel calling my name as I rolled down the mountain as if I were a character in a video game. I stuck out my arms and legs, grabbing at anything. My clothes were torn into pieces, my helmet was broken, and my face was bloodied from cuts and scratches. Then I took a survey of my body to see where I was hurt, starting with my head, then my neck and arms. For the most part, I was fine, except that I was suffering from a sharp pain in my left leg.

As Mel made her way down, I shouted for help, and other climbers came to assist me. A couple of them were trained EMTs. They fixed my leg and called Portland Mountain Rescue. Mel stayed by my side while I tried not to cry from the pain.

9 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Nike was a wheel dog who was directly in front of the sled (雪橇) and take most of the force. Whether little Nike had been named after the athletic shoe or the Greek goddess of victory, I would never know. He came into my life due to an injury in one of his legs which prevented him from making the team for the Trail Sled Dog Race.

My lifelong dream was to become a mountain man. So this winter, my wife Cheryl and I headed into the mountains with supplies to live for five months. In January, we had begun pushing east toward an untraveled area of the Yukon River. The trapping prospects there looked promising. We returned to our main cabin and made plans for me to use Cheryl’s dogs, hooking (钩) them together to form a large team. The idea was to bring supplies several miles down the river and establish a permanent camp.

That meant I’d be traveling alone and driving a sled loaded with around 300 pounds of goods, which meant extra hard work for my wheeler, Nike. The first serious challenge in our trip came where the path went down a steep valley that led to the river. As we started down, I stood on the brake with all of my weight in an attempt to keep balance. But the heavy sled began overtaking the dogs, and they picked up their pace to stay ahead of it. The sled became faster and faster until we came to a sharp turn at the bottom of the hill.

Eventually, the dogs got entangled (缠结) with each other and the sled got stuck in a crack in the river ice. I emerged from a large snowdrift and assessed the damage. I expected to find my dogs and a broken sled. But the sled was fine, and the dogs had jumped over each other, freeing themselves from the tangled ropes. Nike emerged from’ the snow, shook himself off, looked at me with encouraging eyes and made me smile.

Now I have to save myself from the icy river.
