6 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Last summer, Hilda worked as a volunteer with dolphin trainers at a sea life park. Her job was to make sure the tanks were free of any items so that the trainers could train the dolphins to fetch specific items. However, one day after cleaning, one of the dolphins, Maya, presented Hilda with a candy wrapper from the tank. When Katherine, the trainer, saw this, she blamed Hilda for her carelessness. Upset but not discouraged by this event, Hilda decided to do some spying on Maya.

The next morning, Hilda arrived at the park early. She put on her scuba gear (水下呼吸器) and jumped into the tank for her usual, underwater sweep. Finding nothing in the tank, she climbed out of the water just in time to see Katherine jumping in on the other side. After what happened yesterday, Hilda knew what she was doing. She watched as Katherine performed her underwater search, but Hilda wasn’t surprised when she surfaced empty-handed.

During the tank sweeps, Maya had been swimming playfully, but now the dolphin stopped suddenly and swam to the back part of the tank where the filter (过滤) box was located. She stuck her nose down behind the box and then swam away. What was Maya doing back there? Hilda wondered. She jumped back into the water and swam over to take a look behind the box, and her question was answered. Hilda then swam across the tank following Maya’s path and emerged from the water to find Katherine removing her scuba gear. As Katherine turned around, her mouth dropped open. There was Maya at the edge of the tank with a comb (梳子) in her mouth waiting for her treat.

“Maya! Where did you get that?” demanded Katherine, taking the comb and throwing her a fish. “I know where she got it,” declared Hilda climbing out of the tank with a handful of items still wet from their watery, resting place. “What’s all this?” Katherine asked, obviously confused.

9 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

I was washing dishes one day last May when my youngest, 11-year-old Nathan, came running into the house. "Mom, you won't believe what I found in the mud puddle(水坑). Come see! ”I dried my hands and followed him to a large puddle in our driveway. “They're tadpoles(蝌蚪)!” he said. I bent down for a closer look. There were hundreds of tadpoles swimming around.

The next few days, Nathan kept his eye on the tadpoles. One afternoon he asked if he could use my phone to check the weather. “The puddle is drying up, and it's not supposed to rain this week,” he said. “We have to do something or the tadpoles will die.”

“What can we do?” I asked, hesitant about where this might lead.

“I'm going to move them into the pond where they'll be safe. But there are so many tadpoles. Can you help?”

“I have things to do…” I started to say, but the look on Nathan's face stopped me. This was important to him. I grabbed one cup and followed him. After just a few trips, the puddle was almost out of water but still very full of tadpoles.

“What are we going to do, Mom? We have to get them all out!”

I went back inside and grabbed two plastic spoons. We sat next to the puddle, caught the tadpoles with the spoons and put them in the plastic cups. When the cups were full, we transferred the tadpoles into the pond.

After two hours, there were still dozens of tadpoles to be rescued. I was hot and tired.

Then a fish in the pond swallowed several of the tadpoles. I closed my mouth, hoping Nathan hadn't noticed. Too late. “I thought they'd be safe here,” he said, fighting tears. I tried to explain that things like that happen in nature, but he wouldn't listen.

注意:
1.续写词数为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
He ran back into the house and grabbed an old fishbowl.

10 . Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize the main idea and the main point(s)of the passage in no more than 60 words. Use your own words as far as possible.

Green is an important colour in nature. It is the colour of grass and the leaves on trees, the colour of most growing plants.

Sometimes the word green means young, fresh and growing. Sometimes it describes something that is not yet ripe or finished.

Someone who has the ability to grow plants well is said to have a “green thumb”. The expression and a similar one, “green fingers”, come from the 1990s. A person with “green thumb” seems to have a magic touch that makes plants grown quickly and well. You could say that the woman next door has a “green thumb” when her garden continues to produce long after your plants have died.

You may wish to have a “green thumb”, but you surely do not wish to be a “greenhorn”. A “greenhorn” is a person who has no experience, who is new to a situation.

In the 15th century, a “greenhorn” was a young cow or ox whose horns had not yet developed. A century or so later a greenhorn was a soldier who had not yet had any experience in a battle. By the 18th century a greenhorn had the meaning it has today—a person who is new in a job.

Green is also the colour used to describe the powerful emotion, jealousy. The “green-eyed monster” is not a frightening creature from outer space. It is the name given by Shakespeare in his play Othello to jealousy.

When someone talks about the “green-eyed monster”, he is talking about the unpleasant feeling a person has when he thinks he has lost the person he loves to someone else. You could say that a person has been suffering from the “green-eyed monster” ever since his girlfriend began going out with someone else.

In most places in the world, a green light is a signal to go ahead. A green light traffic signal means your vehicle may continue on.

In everyday speech a “green light” means approval to continue with a program or action. A government agency may be given the “green light” to go ahead with a project after the government approves it.
