文章大意:本文为一篇说明文。文章就为避免灾难发生时毫无准备地逃生介绍了相关的几点建议。

1 . When a disaster happens, you might find yourself without water, gas or electricity. You might also need to leave your home right away. So you are supposed to plan for such bad situations. Here are some suggestions.

1    Plan a way to get your family members together after the disaster.

Choose two places for everyone to go to if it isn’t safe to return home. The first meeting place should be near your house. You can go there in an emergency like a fire. The second should be outside your neighborhood.

2    It is easier to communicate over a long-distance call than a local one. The person can help your family members get in touch with each other.

Get a family disaster kit (应急包) ready. It should include the things your family needs. It can help you survive at least for three days with bread, water, medicine and things like that. Put them in a bag so that you can carry it if you leave in a hurry. Do remember that different people have different needs.

3    Update it as often as possible. You may not be able to stop any disasters, but with a little planning you can help yourself and your family survive.

A.Practise your emergency plan.
B.Choose good places to avoid disasters.
C.Have a family meeting.
D.Choose a person outside your area to help.

2 . How to be eco-friendly

If you'd love to be more eco-friendly but don't know where to begin, start with a few small changes. . Here are some suggestions for you to live an eco-friendly life

    1

Turn off lights and unplug power strips (电源插板) that you're not using. This is an easy way to reduce energy use. Since some devices can still use energy even when they're turned off, turn off these power strips at night to completely cut off energy use. If you need to leave your computer or TV on, try setting it to the sleep mode instead of simply leaving it on.

    2

Reduce your gas consumption and carbon emissions by walking, biking, or taking the bus. Keeping cars off the road in rush hours can also improve the air quality. If you do need to drive somewhere, ask friends if they'd like to carpool(拼车), so fewer cars are on the road.

Cutting back on plastics and waste.

Say no to unnecessary plastic straws(吸管), lids(盖子), and bags and stop using plastic wrap and plastic containers for food storage. Instead, you can use reusable water bottles made of sustainable material like glass, bamboo, and ceramic(陶瓷).

    3

They add more oxygen to the air, which means less polluted air. If you don't have a green thumb, choose some plants that are rather easy to look after. “Lucky Bamboo” is especially good for that, since it demands nearly no attention. If possible, grow more than one plant.

A.Considering growing a plant.
B.Using public transportation.
C.Lowering your energy.
D.Using items more than once.

Strange things were happening in the countryside of northeast Hebei. For three days the water in the village wells rose and fell, rose and fell. Farmers noticed that the well walls had deep cracks in them. A smelly gas came out of the cracks. In the farmyards, the chickens and even the pigs were too nervous to eat. Mice ran out of the fields looking for places to hide. Fish jumped out of their bowls and ponds. At about 3:00 am on July 28, 1976, some people saw bright lights in the sky. The sound of planes could be heard outside the city of Tangshan even when no planes were in the sky. In the city, the water pipes in some buildings cracked and burst. But the one million people of the city, who thought little of these events, were asleep as usual that night.

And news reports and better earthquake monitoring make it seem as if earth quakes are increasing all the time. On average, there are 134 earthquakes a year that have a magnitude between 6.0 and 6.9.So far this year there have been 40 earthquakes—more than in most years for that time period. But that’s because the 8.8 quake in Chile caused a large number of strong aftershocks.
