A terrible earthquake hit the city of Tangshan on July 28,1976. Thousands of people died and many children     1    (leave)without parents. Many houses fell down and sand filled the wells     2     of water. People were     3     (extreme) shocked. Water, food and electricity were hard     4    (get)in the city and people began to wonder how long the disaster would last. The whole city was     5    (在废墟中) and the world seemed at its end.

The people of Tangshan didn’t lose hope, because 150,000 soldiers were sent to help the rescue workers.     6     soldiers tried their best to dig out those     7     were trapped. They also built     8    (避难所) for the survivors. Slowly, the city began to come back to life.
