Environmentalists are getting more     1     (worry) about the effects of fast fashion on the environment. Fast fashion is the mass     2     (produce) of clothes at a low cost. They are put in shops and online quickly     3     (create) a high demand. Factories make 100 billion items of clothing every year. The fast fashion business model is having     4     bad effect on the environment. Many of the clothes end up in landfills and are not recycled. Another bad effect on the environment     5     (cause) by the chemicals used to make the clothes. These cause health problems for people     6     (work) in clothes factories. The way people buy clothes is adding to the problem of clothing waste. Many years ago, people went to stores and tried clothes     7    . People took more time and thought more     8     (careful) before they bought clothes. They also wore them for longer. Today, people order cheap clothes on the Internet and if they don’t like     9     (they), they throw them away. Every year in Europe, four million tons of clothing ends up in the trash, less than one percent of     10     is recycled.

Every year the world unites together on World Animal Day on October 4 for the improved treatment and well-being of animals everywhere. It started in 1931 in Florence, Italy when ecologists got together     1    (promote)awareness of endangered species. Since then, the yearly event has been     2     (use)as a way to connect animal welfare (福利)organizations, businesses and community groups to raise awareness for their work and fundraise.

In the past decades, China has done much to improve    3     welfare of domestic and wild animals. The biggest symbol of China’s official protection of animals can be found in the Wildlife Protection Law. First signed in 1988 and revised several times over the years, the law forces people to obey the protection of endangered species as well as ensuring a balance between the needs of wild animals and people.

This balance can be most     4     (easy)examined in the case of Asian elephants. Asian elephants, although greatly treasured across different Asian     5     (culture), have become endangered due     6     hunting for their tusks (象牙). Asian elephants in China are mostly found in Yunnan province. In the spirit of World Animal Day, we can think more of ways to better protect both the animals around us and     9     in the wild. We believe living conditions of wild animals are     10     (get)better and better.

Yunnan is the hometown of tea. It provides the ideal climate and the ecological environment for large-leaf tea trees, which are located in the     1     (region) along the Lancang River. Thousands of years ago, they formed those ancient tea plantations,    2     are the best gift that nature has granted us.

    3     (preserve) the ancient tea trees, Yunnan Province has passed a protection regulation recently,    4     (clarify) that wild and cultivated tea plants aged over 100 years should be better protected in the province. The new regulation, which came into force starting from March l,2023,    5       (prohibit) six kinds of behaviors that harm ancient tea plants     6     their growing environment. Unauthorized cutting and transplantation of ancient tea trees, carving tree branches, digging the roots, and damaging the ancient tea trees are all banned.

Yunnan has diverse resources of tea trees. The regulation also advocates proper research and     9     (apply) of Yunnan’s resources of ancient tea trees, raising varieties    10     new tea trees of good quality, as well as the establishment of relevant industrial chains.

Each morning, 68-year-old amateur cyclist Cui Yue starts his ride along the Tanglai Canal in Yinchuan, capital of northwest China’s Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region,     1    (enjoy) the picturesque natural seeneries.    2    (Cycle) along the canal allows him to experience the city’s improving ecology.

In the southern Turkish city of Antakya, a pregnant woman under the rubble (碎石) of a collapsed building     1     (pull) out to safety by Chinese and local rescue teams on Thursday, three days after the cata-strophic magnitude-7.7 earthquake and     2     ( it) aftershocks struck the country and northern Syria.
