2 . If you have a thought in mind that you can achieve the same goal within less amount of time and hard work by cheating to achieve success, then you shall feel bad later in future. You may have achieved a goal but you choose a wrong path. So, always remember that the path you choose in your life chooses your destination and then you shall not have an option to change it.

It is good to fail though it may take you to terrible feelings of life but in return, you will learn many things that life offers. The struggle is true but after that, the sweet of the fruit will build up your confidence to face any kinds of problem in the future. But if you prefer cheating, then you shall always live in fright.

Honour teaches you how to be disciplined. Being well-educated people, we should know what is good for us. It is always good to fail because at the end of the day, you will learn something new that will help you grow much stronger rather than cheating to achieve success, which will make you regret sooner or later.

All in all, success can be achieved via shortcuts but honour can never be. It’s better to live everyday with honour than to cheat.

3 . People duck responsibility for reasons ranging from simple laziness or a fear of failure, through to a sense of feeling frightened by the scale of a problem or a situation. Whatever the reason, if people fail to take responsibility, they’ll fail in their jobs, they’ll fail their teams, and they’ll fail to grow as individuals. All of this makes it important to address the issue.

Signs of not being responsible

There are several signs to watch out for. These include:

Lacking interest in their work, and in the well-being of the team

Missing deadlines

Avoiding challenging tasks and projects, and not taking risks

Regularly complaining about unfair treatment by team leaders and members and engaging in self-pity

Lacking trust in team members and leaders

Ways to encourage responsibility

Communicate roles, responsibilities and objectives

Your people need to know clearly what their roles and responsibilities are. Ensure that you have an up-to-date job description for each team member, and be as detailed as possible about every responsibility that they have.

5 . 阅读下面材料,在空白处填入适当的内容 (1个单词) 或括号内单词的正确形式。

Why does one person get selected for a promotion while others with equal skills, education and experience get passed over? In my opinion, a person’s proven willingness to behave     1     (responsible) is one of the major     2     (reason). In fact, responsibility influences how the leader behaves with subordinates (下级), and it also influences the relationship with an immediate boss and with other departments in the organization. Much management    3     (guide) surprisingly overlooks this characteristic, yet it     4     (explain) many successes and failures, as well as a large portion of promotional decisions.

More than 40 years ago, Dale Miller conducted    5     examination on the promotion of his managers. Each manager received a group of 62 statements,     6     describe management behaviours, and was asked to make a forced choice, going from the most effective to the     7     (little) effective behaviour. The best managers’ choice was the statement, “Accepts full responsibility for the performance of the work unit.” This statement     8     (choose) far more frequently than statements about assignment, planning, staffing, time-management or technical skills. This choice also illustrated the sharpest distinction between the excellent managers and managers with     9     (disappoint) performance. In the end, the managers who hadn’t been promoted attached far less importance to responsible behaviours, because they were considered to be    10     (rely).

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了一些方法以帮助我们通过面部表情来判断一个人是否诚实。

6 . Facial expressions give away whether someone is being honest

Wouldn’t the world be such a simple place if someone’s nose really grew when they told a lie? Then we wouldn’t have to spend so much time trying to determine whether people are telling the   truth. Luckily, there are scientific ways to tell if someone is being honest by judging from their facial expressions.     1    .

They’re holding the right amount of eye contact.

Eyes have the power to be extremely telling at times, particularly when it comes to whether people are telling the truth or not. When I think about it,     2    , but it turns out the opposite is true.

Their rate of blinking doesn’t change.

Stay to the eyes for a moment — blinking is a very easy way to detect if someone is telling you the truth. Those who are being honest will maintain a consistent rhythm of blinking as they’re speaking to you.     3    , and then the blinking speed will increase up to eight time faster than normal after the lie has been told.

You haven’t noticed them touching their nose.

4    . Are they reaching up and touching their nose as they’re speaking? Nose touching is a sign of lying. This is because certain tissues in the nose usually swell when a person is telling   a lie, making the nose itch. If the person hasn’t been touching their nose at all, take this as a good sign.

    5    .

A fake smile could mean something is up. Liars have an “increased activity of the ‘zygomatic major muscles’, located around the mouth,” and it can force the face into a fake smile.

A.There’s no fake smile in sight
B.Watch the person’s hands
C.Blinking fast is a way to give away one’s lying
D.I assume liars would have a difficult time holding eye contact
E.You have notice there’s a fake smile in their faces
F.Here are some ways to tell if someone is telling you the truth
G.Oppositely, a liar will blink more slowly when they’re telling a lie

文章大意:本文是一篇议论文。文章主要论述了人们没有时间参与艺术这种现象以及艺术的重要性,艺术应该是一种生活中的必需品而不是奢侈品。

9 . According to Americans for the Arts, more than two-thirds of U.S. adults say that the arts “lift me up beyond everyday experiences.” Still, only 30 percent attended a concert of any type in 2017; 23 percent visited an art museum; six percent attended a literary event. Fewer than half actively created art of any kind.

What has caused this phenomenon is that we do not have time for art — we are weighed down by our day-to-day responsibilities. Maybe you like to play a little background music while you work but most of us rarely, if ever, went to see a live performance, let alone visited a gallery. And reading poetry? Perhaps not since high school.

Too often, we let the realities of life get in the way of the arts, which can feel insignificant by comparison. But this is a mistake. The arts might be the single most in-depth experience you will ever be given to explore the nature and meaning of life. And if you make time to consume and produce art, you will find your life become fuller and happier.

Some philosophers address the problem of life consumed by work and material pursuits. They argue that art provides relief from this routine, expanding our perspective and bringing us closer to true reality.

Think of a time when you heard a piece of music and wanted to cry. Or recall your fast heartbeats as you stared at a delicate lifelike sculpture. Chances are that it probably stimulated (刺激) a sudden awakening, much like the shock from a lungful of pure oxygen after breathing in smoggy air.

If you are among those who feel that art is “pure pleasure to experience and participate in,” you might see it the same way you see eating out, or skydiving: as a luxury (奢侈品) item in your limited budgets of time and money. As such, it probably gets the same sort of treatment as any minor hobby. Don’t make this error. Treat art more like exercise or sleep: a necessity for a life full of deep satisfaction.

1. What does paragraph 1 focus on?
A.The opinion of U.S. adults about art.
B.The types of art that U.S. adults engage with.
C.The mismatch between value and behaviour as to art.
D.The connection between everyday experiences and art.
2. What is a mistaken idea in the author’s opinion?
A.Art reveals the nature of life.B.Art gives way to material pursuits.
C.Life without art is meaningless.D.Background music is a kind of art.
3. What does the author want to convey in paragraph 5?
A.Art awakes people’s talents.B.Art improves physical health.
C.Art brings us closer to nature.D.Art makes life fuller and happier.
4. What might be the best title?
A.Art: A Habit, Not a LuxuryB.Art: A Bridge, Not a Barrier
C.Art: A Decoration, Not a RealityD.Art: A Pleasure, Not a Burden
