文章大意:本文是一篇说明文,主要讲述了丢弃轮胎一直以来就是一个问题,一些较好的回收方法也不环保,但现在有了一个好的想法,那就是把旧轮胎变为环保材料。

4 . Getting rid of(丢弃) old tyres(轮胎) has long been a problem. Every year many tyres are thrown. Some of the ways might be better than getting rid of them, but they are not especially green.

Energy recovery(回收利用) is one common way. This includes burning tyres to produce electricity, or as a way to provide heat for other industrial processes. But that produces planet-warming pollution. Tyres can be whole or broken in construction projects, such as repairing roads. There are, however, worries about chemicals from the tyres coming out and polluting the ground.

So some companies have begun exploring another pleasing idea. Since tyres are mostly made from hydrocarbons(碳氢化合物), it should be possible in principle to turn old tyres into environmentally friendly materials which can be used to run some cars they came from. One of the most thoughtful companies is based in Oslo, Norway. Later this year the company will start building a huge tyre-reused factory in Sunderland in northeastern England. In a couple of years, when the factory is fully operational, it will be able to turn 8 million old tyres into new products.

The process works by dividing a tyre into its three main parts. One is steel, which is used to support the structure of a tyre and which can be easily reused. The second is powder used to improve the continuous use of the tyre. The third is rubber. Some of that will be natural rubber from the rubber trees. The carbon black can be reused to make new tyres. That is of interest to tyre makers because it helps efforts to become carbon neutral(碳中和).

1. What is the disadvantage of energy recovery of tyres mentioned in the text?
A.It is unpractical.B.It produces pollution.
C.It costs a lot.D.It produces less electricity.
2. How is paragraph 3 organized?
A.By giving an example.B.By making questions.
C.By following time order.D.By comparing differences.
3. Which of the following best describes the huge tyre-reused factory?
A.Costly.B.Useful.C.Dangerous.D.Short-lived.
4. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A.Tyres can be divided into three parts
B.A company built a tyre-reused factory
C.Energy recovery can deal with old tyres
D.Old tyres can become environmentally friendly materials

5 . Today, many people spend a lot of time reading online. Whether reading news or e-books, people are spending more time eyeballing (盯住) screens. While online reading opens up a great deal of knowledge to people, there are some disadvantages too, such as eyestrain, headaches, as well as difficulty in focusing on the text. Now a new reading system, Bionic Reading, developed by Swiss typographic designer Renato Casutt, can help people overcome these issues, and most importantly, it aims to help people read faster online and develop a more in-depth understanding of written content.

The reading system improve the reading process by guiding the eyes through text with artificial fixation points. To make it short: some parts of the words are displayed in bold (粗体). As a result, the reader only focuses on the highlighted letters and lets the brain center complete the rest. Your brain can “read” faster than your eyes, so by essentially reducing the number of letters your eye needs to look at, you can read faster while still preserving the full context.

Cassult discovered the system by accident. He was working on designing a book in a foreign language and realized he could read it if he sectioned it off. He worked for six years to develop Bionic Reading and is still working to adjust it.

A preliminary (初步的) study was conducted by the Swiss Institute InnoSuisee, but more research is needed before it can be definitively shown that the system improves reading. Some people with ADHD (多动症) prove that Bionic Reading helped them focus and comprehend what they are reading. Other people don’t seem to notice a big difference compared to regular text. There’s also no evidence to suggest Bionic Reading is any better than regular text. The best way to know if the Bionic Reader helps you read better online is to try it yourself.

1. What is the main purpose of Bionic Reading?
A.To point out people’s reading problems.
B.To teach people necessary reading skills.
C.To reduce readers’ screen time and eye stress.
D.To improve people’s reading speed and comprehension.
2. What does the underlined phrase “artificial fixation points” in paragraph 2 refer to?
A.Words displayed in capital letters.B.Useful expressions.
C.Difficult sentences in the text.D.Bold letters.
3. What do some people with ADHD think of the system according to the text?
A.It is complex.B.It can be beneficial.
C.It needs to be improved.D.It has little effect on them.
4. What is the text mainly about?
A.A reading project for ADHD.B.A research on language learning.
C.A system to help with online reading.D.A tool for treating reading disability

The correlation has also been proved by science. A study in 2019 showed that the frequent use of social media by teenagers can lead to a decrease in their mental health.

Society should pay attention to this, she said. “Since it’s not possible to cut off access to social media for younger users, why not introduce a ‘supervision mode’ with which parents can regulate the content to be viewed by teenagers beforehand?” she said.

He quickly chose to ignore it so he wouldn’t be influenced. This is the same way he reacts when exposed to negative content on social media.
