When I first read this line by England's Poet Laureate, it _____________   me.   What   did Masefield mean? Without thinking about it much, I had always assumed that the _______ was true. But his serious assurance was ________. I was deeply attracted by it.

Slowly, I seemed to ________ his meaning and realized the wisdom that happiness makes possible lies in clear perception(洞察力), not _______ by anxiety nor dimmed by despair and boredom, and without the blind _______ caused by fear.

Active happiness---not mere satisfaction or _______---often comes suddenly, like an April shower or the unfolding of a bud. Then you discover what kind of wisdom has ____________ it. Amazingly, in your eyes, the grass is greener; bird songs are sweeter; the _________   of your friends are more understandable, and more forgivable. Happiness is like a pair of eyeglasses correcting your ________ vision.

Nor are the __________ of happiness limited to what is near around you. Unhappy, with your thoughts focused on your emotional woes (痛苦) , your vision is cut short as though blocked by a wall. Happy, the wall _________.

Consequently, the long vision is there for the seeing. The ground at your feet, the world about you---people, thoughts, emotions, pressures---are now ____________ a larger scene. 4 . Many years ago, I was living with my best friend and we had many happy moments together. But there was one night that ________ our lives forever.

On the night of November 25, 2011, I got into a fistfight with my best friend in our kitchen. It all started because I was trying to help him. He was drinking a lot, arguing with everyone and ________ himself from others by keeping silent most of the time. 6 . On a bright sunny day, I stared my day off by volunteering at the L. A. Food Bank. My reason for volunteering at the food bank was to satisfy my need to help others and leave a _________, however small a difference it is, in someone’s world. 7 . Rain or shine, a Tibetan mailman, Tsering Chopa treks (跋涉) for long hours to deliver mail.

Pumachangthang in Tibet, China’s highest township, has very _______ oxygen level and the annual average temperature is -7℃. However, these weren’t the biggest challenges for a _______ service. A single _______ to all the six villages of less than 2,000 people can be as long as 160 km. The extraordinary _______ required under such conditions needs no further explanation.

The _______ time for Tsering Chopa is between July and August each year, when students are waiting for their _______ letters from various universities. He recalls one summer he had to deliver mail to one student whose family had already moved away. He had to quiz (询问) neighbors several times for the new _______. Even though the road to the village was _______ because of rain, he trekked for more than 20 km to finally deliver the letter. “I don’t mind the _______, because it was my ________ to deliver the mail on time,” he says.

8 . Aged 25, I’d been driving home when my wheels hit a puddle and I lost control. The car flew through the air, and when it landed, my body was soaked in blood.

10 . At first, the grains of rice that Ingo Potrykus held in his fingers did not seem at all _________, but inside, these grains were not white, as ordinary rice is, but a very pale yellow — thanks to beta-carotene (胡萝卜素), a building block for vitamin A.
