The Kindness Rocks Project is a movement designed to encourage people     1     (paint) rocks with inspirational (鼓舞人心的) messages and leave them in public places for others to find and brighten their day. It     2     (start) a few years ago by a mom in Massachusetts, and has spread around the world. Kids, families, and adults of all     3     (age) are taking part-painting rocks, hiding rocks, and finding painted rocks all over the place. Some post photos of the rocks on social media, and others     4     (simple) move the rocks for someone else to find.

9-year-old twins Harry and Hannah Derieze have painted hundreds of rocks with their parents. Most evenings, the family and their small dog walk around with a wagon (小推车) full     5     rocks that they hide as they walk.

“It’s a(n)     6     (interest) family activity,” Hannah says. “We will do it in the winter too.”

Ben Burinsky, 9, and his brother, Luke, 7, were visiting relatives when they     7     (find) their first painted rock in a park. They were     8     excited that they went home and painted their own rocks, then hid them for others to find.

“I love how something so small can bring     9     smile to my children’s faces. In return, they learn the value of     10     (give) back to others,” their mother, Judy Burinsky, says.

Cheering, dancing and singing, local people and tourists gathered around the fire during the Torch Festival of the Yi People in Bijie’s Hezhang county, Guizhou, on Aug 12. The festival     1     (list) as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2011.

For the early Yi people     4     lived in high-altitude mountainous areas, fire was essential     5     light, warm, and cook food. The Yi people used to celebrate the festival as a way to pray for a good harvest and to drive away evil from their home and farmland. Today, it has become a social event.

As you walk into the Shandong Arts and Crafts Exhibition Center, you are greeted by     1     impressive sight: a larger-than-life rabbit.     2     (decorate) with an auspicious (吉利的) cloud atop, the Tuzi Wang, or “lord rabbit”, is dressed in a golden helmet, armor and a flowing red robe.

The     3     (create) of the rabbit figure is Yang Feng, an inheritor of this Shandong intangible cultural heritage. Located on the second floor of the exhibition center is his studio     4     he displays his works. After dedicating two decades to perfecting his craft, Yang is committed     7     promoting the traditional skill of creating the lord rabbit in his own unique style. “For me, crafting the rabbit is not just a job, but a lifelong career that I am     8     (passion) about,” he says.

Hou Yangjun, the deputy secretary-general of the Chinese Folk Literature and Art Association, explains that a folk tradition emerges in Jinan where citizens worship (崇拜) a clay rabbit god named Tuzi Wang during Mid-Autumn Festival and it     9     (pass) down for several centuries. “The rabbit god is known as Tu’er Ye in Beijing and Tuzi Wang in Jinan. Despite minor differences in their appearance, both of them share the same origin and are     10     (traditional) crafted from mud and clay,” Hou adds.

China witnessed its third aircraft carrier on June 17 in Shanghai, naming it     1     the eastern coastal province of Fujian.

Upon its     2     (complete), the giant ship will displace (排水) more than 80,000 metric tons of water,     3     (make) it the largest and mightiest warship any Asian nation has ever built. Compared with the two predecessors,     9     Fujian is much bigger and heavier. In addition to the J-15 fighter jet, the new carrier     10     (expect) to have new advanced combat planes or drones.

A Bite of China

No trip would be complete without experiencing the local food culture.    1    (actual), China has various kinds of delicious food, including a wide variety of local snacks.

For most of the foreigners I have contacted, and myself    2     (include), Peking duck and Mongolian hotpot are the favourite Chinese dishes. China is a place    3     the food is not only delicious,but the    4    (cheap).

    5     my last night in Beijing before    6     (return) to the United States,I went to a Peking duck restaurant that had been suggested to me to try. What a beautiful place,with splendid woodblock prints on the walls, fresh flowers in the vases, and    7    (attract)silverware (银餐具) and beautiful chopsticks. I was handed     8     menu and found most of the prices were especially low for the high quality of the food.

Anyway,I ordered a whole duck,thinking I’d just take the rest back to my hotel    9    (eat) later if I couldn’t finish it. Unbelievably, none of the whole duck    10    (leave) on the plate in the end.
