Henry Tyler made the catch of the year on the weekend. When he saw a young child hanging from a sixth-floor apartment balcony (阳台), Henry ran one hundred metres, jumped over a 1.2-metre fence, and held out his arms to catch the     1     (fall) child.

Eric Brown, only three years old, knocked Henry down when he fell. The boy is in the hospital and doctors say he'll be OK.

    2     Brown family live in an apartment building outside Toronto. On the day of the accident, Mrs. Brown was at work and Eric was at home with his father. They both fell     3     (sleep) while watching TV.

Eric woke up a little later when he heard children playing outside. He pushed a chair onto the balcony, and climbed up     4     (see) them. When he looked down, he     5     (accidental) slipped and fell over the edge. He hung on for a few minutes     6     screamed for his father, but his father didn't hear him.

Henry     7     (fix) his car when he heard the screams. He looked up and saw Eric hanging from the balcony. He quickly     8     (throw) his tools aside, and started running, arms out.

"He saved my     9     (son) life," said Mrs. Brown. "I don't know     10     to thank him.”

"I just didn't want the boy to be hurt," said Henry.

Four ancient Chinese irrigation (灌溉) sites have been honored as World Heritage Irrigation Structures,     1    has brought the total number of irrigation projects in China on the list to 23.

Tianbao Weir (堰), one of the newly     2     (award) projects, is situated in Fujian Province. With a history of over 1, 200 years, the weir is the     3     (old) existing water project specifically aimed at stopping saltwater and storing freshwater.

Longshou Canal and Ancient Luohe River Irrigation District in Shaanxi Province is said to be the first underground canal in China’s history. The canal is a major branch of the Yellow River,     4     (provide) irrigation for local farms in the face of     5     (dry) and water shortage.

The Weirs of Baishaxi Stream Project in east China’s Zhejiang Province is made     6    of 36 weirs, 21 of which still offer irrigation water. The project covers 45 kilometers of the Baishaxi Stream and has a total water level drop of 168 meters.

Sangyuanwei Polder Embankment (堤) System     7     (locate) in south China’s Guangdong Province, which was first built     8    the 10th century. The embankment extends for 64.8 km and the system provides irrigation, drainage canals and water     9     (pathway).

The ancient irrigation projects are treasures of the development of Chinese water culture     10    of great value for the development of Irrigation agriculture in China.

Two new entries, Tai Chi and the Wangchuan ceremony, were listed as UNESCO intangible cultural heritage(非物质文化遗产) on Thursday.

Tai Chi is a traditional physical practice that is known     1     (have) relaxed, circular movements. Tai Chi works in harmony with breath regulation and the delicate development of a righteous mind.     2     (appear) during the mid-17th century in Wenxian County, Henan Province, China, it is now practiced throughout China by people of all ages. Tai Chi’s basic movements consist     3     wubu (five steps) and bafa (eight techniques) with a series of routines, exercises and tuishou,     4     means hand-pushing skills and is performed with a counterpart.

The Wangchuan ceremony,     5     other newly-selected intangible cultural heritage, was jointly put forward for UNESCO intangible cultural heritage status by both China and Malaysia. First     6     (observe) in Fujian Province, China many hundreds of years ago, it now     7    (main) exists in the coastal areas of Xiamen and Quanzhou, as well as in some overseas Chinese communities.     8     (perform), including different local operas, dragon and lion dances, and amazing puppet shows, among many others, are presented during the ceremony. UNESCO holds the belief     9     the ceremony brings back historical memories of ancestors’ ocean-going stories, reshapes social connections when faced with emergencies, and     10     (honor) harmony between humans and the ocean.

With the techniques (技巧) and ideas they have, they could achieve much more     10     I have.”
