There are a few tips old people should keep in mind while traveling during the long weekend. Consider these tips to keep your travelling stress-free.
1.Plan ahead.
Get to know your destination ahead of time. Find out the weather for the weekend and choose some fun places to go with loved ones. You also can pack the necessary items like an umbrella. If you need a wheelchair or other devices, inform the place you’re staying ahead of time.
2.
Let your doctor know about your travel plans. He may want to discuss medications or dietary changes and offer sound medical advice.
3.
The old should always think about any medicine they take daily. Bring enough medicine to last you the entire weekend. Pack your medications in your carry-on if you’re flying. That way, if there are travel delays, you’ll be prepared. Don’t leave your medications exposed in your room while you’re away. Always place them in a safe spot out of harm’s reach.
4.Avoid showing flashy items.
Keep your jewelry at home while you’re travelling or tuck it in a hidden spot. If you’re staying in a hotel, use the room safe to hold valuables such as wallets while you’re gone. Avoid placing the “clean my room” sign on the door. If you are on the first floor always keep windows locked to avoid break-ins.
5.
Old people should always aim to travel comfortably. Pack flat shoes with good support. Even the smallest of heels can throw off your balance and possibly cause you to fall. Use luggage with wheels for easy mobility.
A. Travel comfortably.
B. Talk to your doctor.
C. Take your doctor with you.
D. Consider your medications.
3 . Today, we visit one of the most famous parks — Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve. This huge park in the southeastern part of the state covers more than 10 thousand square kilometers of the Alaskan wilderness. It includes mountains, glaciers, fjords (峡湾), and even rain forests. Glacier Bay supports hundreds of kinds of animals, including many species of birds, fish, bears, whales and sea lions.
As its name suggests much of Glacier Bay is covered by glaciers. A glacier is a large area of ice that moves slowly down a slope or valley, or over a wide area of land. Glaciers cover a large area of the park.
The glaciers found in the park today are what remain from an ice development known as the Little Ice Age. That period began about 4,000 years ago. During the Little Ice Age, the cold weather caused the ice to grow and develop. That growth continued until the 1700s, when the climate began to warm. The hotter temperatures caused the ice to start melting (融化). That melting led the huge glacier to divide into more than 1,000 different glaciers.
The extremely tall mountains seen in Glacier Bay were formed by the ice developing and then melting over time. The melting of the ice also created water that filled in and created the many fjords within the park. Fjords are narrow parts of the ocean that sit between cliffs or mountains.
Glacier Bay is a popular place for people searching for adventure. Some visitors choose to explore the park by kayak. The small, narrow boats offer visitors a chance to experience the park’s many fjords and its hundreds of kilometers of coastline.

4 . How to Improve Your Focus
Studying is a skill you can improve, just like any other. In fact, your focus plays the most important role in it. Here are some effective ways to improve your focus.
Make sure the TV and radio are off. Turn your phone on silent. If you don’t need the Internet for your studying, turn your WiFi off so you won’t get distracted (分心).
Study one subject at a time instead of multi-tasking
Studies have shown that multi-tasking is not only ineffective but also stressful. You can get much more fun out of a task if you focus on it and do a good job.
Reading to study isn’t like reading a novel for fun. You have to make sure you are actively focusing on and remembering the information. As you read the material, ask yourself about what you’ve just read to check your comprehension (理解力). Take notes by writing down the chapter headings and then make a few bullet points for each one with key information.
Take an active break at least every hour.
After an hour of sitting and studying, get up and take a little break. Try to make the break last about 10 minutes so that you can go back to studying better.
Sleep is the best ingredient (要素) to help you focus. Staying up late studying on school nights is not a good idea for long-term success. Lack of sleep prevents you from focusing and reduces your ability to remember what you have learned.
A.Stay organized with a study schedule. |
B.Make sure you get enough sleep every night. |
C.Ask yourself questions as you read and take notes. |
D.Avoid distractions by limiting electronics (电子产品). |

6 . Previously, the most readily available invisible ink was lemon juice. To use it, write with the lemon juice on ordinary paper, iron the paper with a hot iron and the hidden message will appear. The disadvantage is that the paper has to be destroyed to hide the message so no one else can read it.
Scientists have discovered a new kind of invisible ink. It is called water. All you need for this secret-messaging ink to work is to write with it on a super-hi-tech piece of paper coated with special chemicals. Shine a UV light on the coated paper and the water message becomes visible.
When the message has been read and needs to be hidden again, get out your hairdryer, and blow some warm air on the paper. Then the message will be erased and the paper can be reused, which keeps costs low.
The chemicals on the paper take in and give off light. The scientists found that putting water on the paper broke up the structure of the chemicals it was coated with. The water writing showed up darker than the surrounding paper under UV light.
Using hot air from a hairdryer for 15-30 seconds, you were able to reuse the special paper as many as 30 times because the heat reorganized the chemical structure of the paper coating. Without the heat from a hairdryer, the message stayed visible for up to three months.
The invention was made by a group of scientists in China, led by Qiang Zhao of the Institute of Advanced Materials, Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications.

10 . As COVID-19 broke out and spread in the world, many countries are changing their social habits to reduce the risk of spreading the novel coronavirus(新型冠状病毒). Here are some of the ways that greeting habits are changing around the world.
China
Loudspeakers tell people not to shake hands but to make the traditional gongshou gesture(a fist in the opposite palm) to say hello.
France
France is famous for its romantic greetings. They touch each other's cheeks and make a kissing sound. But now, this habit may be coming to a stop. Newspapers in France have begun publishing advice on how to replace kissing on the cheek. French etiquette(礼仪) expert Philippe Lichtfus said that simply looking into a person's eyes can be enough as a greeting.
Spain
The outbreak could also hit one of Spain's most important traditions—in the week before Easter, known as Holy Week, the faithful (信徒) queue up to kiss the hands or feet of sculptures of the Virgin Mary and the saints, seeking their protection. It's said that the ceremony could be banned.
Iran
Traditionally, people in Iran shake hands to greet one another. But today, a video has been popular in Iran, showing three friends meeting, hands in their pockets and two of them wearing masks, tapping their feet against each other as a greeting.
