文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。介绍了一个即将开始建造的社区,它将融入新的理念,人们出行非常便捷。

2 . A new suburban neighborhood, Oberbillwerder, is being planned just 15-minute outside of Hamburg. It has all the facilities that most neighborhoods have except driveways and cars. Unlike typical American suburbs where houses have driveways and a garage, this community isn’t banning cars but you will not be able to park at home, and you may not want to drive at all.

Karres en Brands is a Dutch design company that is working with the Danish firm Adept on this new community that will have 7,000 homes and 5,000 office spaces. The new planned development will have schools, stores and offices that residents can walk or bike to on the green loops (圈) that connect the neighborhoods with public spaces.

The parking structures will feature ground level community spaces like gyms and indoor farming. These parking areas will also store and collect energy for the community and as demand for parking spaces decrease, the developers expect them to evolve into new structures.

Oberbillwerder will be an exciting urban area that will be built around the existing landscape and will include a series of canals in low lying areas. The water system will become one of the central qualities of the new community. This combines nature instead of blocking or changing it to fit a traditional neighborhood. The community will also be energy neutral and use the most environmental technologies including reusing waste water, green roofs, and farming space for residents who want to grow their own food.

The developers expect to break ground in 2025 and the entire project is expected to be completed by 2040 according to Fast Company. While most people will be driving electric cars by then, this urban plan is more about a more natural use of space and better quality of life rather than just about reducing greenhouse gases from car emissions.

1. What can residents do in the new planned community?
A.Drive cars.B.Take buses.C.Walk dogs.D.Go biking.
2. What is the third paragraph mainly about?
A.The parking areas.B.Ground spaces.C.Parking decrease.D.Indoor farming.
3. What can we infer from the fourth paragraph?
A.The existing canals will be kept.B.Energy will be provided for free.
C.The water system will be a bright spot.D.Growing food will be forbidden completely.
4. What’s the advantage for people to live in Oberbillwerder?
A.Live better.B.Lower costs.C.Have more water.D.Rid car emissions.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了城市快速发展带来了很多问题。

4 . The rapid and uncontrolled expansion of today’s cities is causing anxiety not only among urban planners and architects, but also experts in the field of public health. They are alarmed that the disorder of the urban expansion is robbing the population of its basic health and well-being through environmental pollution, inadequate housing and the increasing numbers of neighbors who do not know neighbors.

Beijing, a city of over 21 million residents, is an example of this social isolation. Until the early 1980s, the Chinese capital, was constructed as quantities of Siheyuan. This open structure greatly strengthened contact between neighbors, encouraged the sharing of resources, and formed close relations between families. Because of these characteristics, these structures were described as “collections of small rural villages”. Until the mid-1980s, only a few skyscrapers disrupted the harmony of the landscape. Today Beijing has the look and feel of a modern city, where these “small rural villages” have been replaced by towering skyscrapers. This striking change is not limited to outer structures; it has also dramatically changed the closeness of human relations.

Physical isolation has destroyed the local sense of solidarity (团结), and contributed to the destruction of what were once united family groups. As the distance between home and the workplace has also increased considerably, workers now find themselves devoting what was once valuable family time to exhausting commutes in overcrowded buses or subways.

The disordered growth of today’s cities can no longer be ignored. The great challenge is how to improve the quality of urban life by ensuring harmonious growth. Skyscrapers should not be the only view people can see in a city. Old-fashioned but unique architecture reflects history, character — even the culture of a city. Cities should learn from the experiences of other cities with similar characteristics. This effort requires not only the participation of urban planners but public health and environmental experts, politicians, and fundamentally, the communities themselves.

1. What is the first paragraph mainly about?
A.People in the city don’t know their neighbors.
B.Experts are concerned about housing problems.
C.Cities’ disordered development has caused problems.
D.Environmental pollution is harmful to people’s basic health.
2. What can we learn about Beijing at present?
A.People in Beijing become isolated.
B.Siheyuan in Beijing becomes precious.
C.The outer structure of Beijing becomes messy.
D.Skyscrapers make Beijing become international.
3. What does isolation in physical space probably lead to?
A.Loss the citizens’ sense of responsibility.
B.People’s freedom to enjoy the leisure time.
C.Reconstruction of the united family groups.
D.Workers being worn out on the way to work.
4. Which statement will the author probably agree with?
A.Cities should completely follow the pattern of other cities.
B.The development of a city is at the expense of its elegance.
C.Old-fashioned architectures and skyscrapers can coexist in a city.
D.Communities play the most important role in harmonious growth of cities.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了英国房屋的不同类型以及两个时代的房屋特点。

5 . There are many different types of houses in the UK. You may see detached, semi-detached, terraced houses or even end-of-terrace houses on a typical street. You might see apartments in wealthier parts of town, or people living in bungalows, preferring to live a life without stairs. Strange cottages may dot the countryside, while heading to the cities you could see any number of types of flats, including houses turned into flats, studios and duplexes. But one thing you will notice is that many houses come from different eras, and asking a British person about their ideal home, many of them will have a specific period property in mind.

For some, it could be Victorian houses, which are often seen with bay windows, high ceilings, stained glass doors and colored brickwork. During the Victorian era, a huge number of houses, particularly terraced, were built in towns and cities to accommodate vast numbers of workers who were moving from more rural areas.

Georgian architecture refers to houses built during the period of 1714 and 1830 during the rules of four British monarchs. Usually houses with this architectural style have a more symmetrical theme, both internally and externally, with a small square garden in front. For those not into older properties, new builds from the 1990s onwards offer better insulation against the cold and newer electrics. And those who prefer less repairs could always go with the open-plan or minimalist look of the modern era.

So, whether it’s high ceilings, better insulation, brickwork, bungalows or square gardens, people in Britain have a wide variety of preferences when it comes to where they live. And their ideal home may just simply be a case of what style feels like home.

1. What do the Victorian houses have?
A.A small square garden in front.B.High ceilings and colored brickwork.
C.A more symmetrical theme than any other era.D.Broken windows and stainless doors.
2. Why does the author mention Victorian and Georgian houses?
A.To display the wisdom of the architects.B.To introduce the origin of them.
C.To attract people fond of British houses.D.To show the diversity of British houses.
3. What can we learn from the text?
A.The preference of British for the houses.B.The history of the Georgian houses.
C.The house structures of Britain.D.The fine scenery in Britain.
4. What will the author probably talk about next?
A.Ideal British home.B.Terraced houses.
C.Georgian houses.D.Square and gardens.

10 . It was a cold Saturday night in February. Some 200 New Yorkers carefully made their way to the reservoir (水库) in the hopes of catching a glimpse of the magical snowy owl, who had touched down in the park the week before in what was reported as the first visit there by the species in more than 130 years.

Except for a few excited screams from children, people were quiet — patiently awaiting the owl’s arrival at the reservoir’s north gatehouse. The snowy owl did not disappoint. She flew down from the darkness and surveyed the water and the people holding phones and cameras before taking off into the night to the applause of her many fans. They simply wanted to see this lovely creature whose improbable appearance seemed to signify hope after the lockdown.

New Yorkers who had long taken Central Park for granted felt a renewed love for this rectangle of green in the heart of the big city and, of course, its amazing wildlife. That the park is a beautiful and essential refuge is something that humans have only come to fully appreciate during these recent times of uncertainty.

Central Park was originally planned and constructed during another difficult time in the nation’s history — in the years before and during the American Civil War. Unlike many European parks that had originally been built for the aristocracy (贵族), Central Park was designed as a public space. In its chief architect Frederick Law Olmsted’s words, the poor and rich alike could “easily go there after their day’s work is done” and “stroll for an hour, seeing, hearing, and feeling nothing of the noise of the streets.”

As spring turns into summer, we see people sitting on the grass or benches — catching some sun, having family picnics, or tapping away on their laptops and iPads. Just being in proximity to other people in Central Park gave us a sense of community — the sense that we would somehow persevere.

1. What did people do in Central Park on that Saturday night?
A.They cheered for each other.B.They paid their first visit.
C.They came for a rare sight.D.They appreciated a water event.
2. What does the author mainly intend to do in Paragraph 4?
A.Give some examples.B.Make a comparison.
C.Introduce a new opinion.D.Add background information.
3. What do the underlined words “in proximity to” in Paragraph 5 mean?
A.close toB.free from
C.at a distance from            D.in comparison with
4. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text?
A.Find Refuge in Central Park
B.Take Your Breath by Snow Owl
C.Trace Central Park to difficult times
D.Meet an improbable “visitor” in person
