About Summer at Emerson
Summer at Emerson is open to all students, regardless of which school they attend. We offer several individual (独立的) weeks of half-day camps and full-day camps to children who have completed or will end grades K-8 during the 2022-2023 school year. Note: A child who is enrolling (注册) in Kindergarten in the 2023-2024 school year is not yet qualified (能胜任) to attend Summer at Emerson
Facilities & Staff
Emerson School is equipped with (配备有) technology labs, Performing Arts Theater, and gymnasium (体育馆) as well as the outdoor sports fields, and nature areas will be fully used throughout the summer staff of caring and experienced instructors. All camps are designed and run by a professional and counselors (顾问). Summer at Emerson is fully permitted (允许；准许) by the State of Michigan as a child care provider, and the majority of our staff members are CPR and First Aid certified (获得资格的).

3 . ReCreate summer camps are a super-fun and affordable way to spend your summer. Our camps are 100% fun with some valuable skills in Science, Tech, Engineering, Art and Math through the weeks.
June 24th-28th ReCreate Goes to Market(Ages 8-14)
Campers will explore different making skills and through the design thinking model, use those skills to invent something for the purpose of selling. Skills will include 3D Design, design and use of logo, T-shirt design, programming and more. They will get marketing and budget (预算) skills along the way. This fast-moving camp was a huge hit last year!
July 8th-12th Girl-Powered Tech Club(Ages 8-13)
This camp is to give girls a chance to develop and sharpen their skills in programming and understanding technology. They will explore computer skills and more, in an open and fun camp! Girls will bring their robotic animals “to life” through the use of programming and artistic expression.
Notes:
Camps are Monday through Friday at ReCreate from 9: 00 a. m.-3:30 p.m.

Rice Harvest Festival (May ~ June)
The harvest festival is dedicated to Dewi Sni-the goddess of rice and fertility(丰产) celebrated by the people of Bali, Indonesia.
Mid-Autumn Festival (September ~ October)
Mooncakes and tea are served on Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival. Mid-Autumn Festival is also known as the Moon Festival, because it coincides with the full moon on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month. It is also a time of family gatherings.
Yam Festival (August or September)
Men are carrying yams(山药) at the Yam Festival on the Trobriand Islands, Papua NewGuinea. The people there celebrate the end of the rainy season and the first appearance of yams.
Sukkoth (September ~ October)
Jewish people decorate the family Sukkah for the Jewish festival of Sukkot. A Sukkah is a temporary building where meals are taken for the week. The 8-day festival gives thanks to the harvest.
Pongal (January)
The 4-day festival of Pongal is a celebration of the rice harvest period. Held after the winter solstice(冬至), it celebrates the return of longer days of life-giving sunlight. Its name comes from a Tamil word, meaning “to boil”, and is also the name given to a rice dish that is prepared during this time.

“Ellie! Ellie! I can’t till your birthday, so here! Open it” 11-year-old Alana shouted on afternoon. She had brought her elder sister Ellie a gift-wrapped box a week before her birthday.
Ellie accepted the box with a smile. However, she asked her sister for help because her arms were too weak that day.
Ellie had cerebral palsy (脑瘫), and she was in a wheelchair. Sometimes, her arms and legs were too weak.
Alana helped her sister with the wrapping, showing a beautiful new Barbie that 12-year-old Ellie looked at closely. Suddenly, her eyes watered, and Alana hugged her tightly, thinking she was happy to receive the gift.
“Isn’t it cool? I saved all my pocket money for it,” Alana proudly said, holding her sister close.
“It’s just… she’s pretty, not like me! I’ll never look like that!” Ellie cried some more.
This was not uncommon. Ellie often cried over not looking like other girls, including her little sister, who was tall and getting more beautiful each day. Her family tried their best to comfort her as she complained about her situation.
“Ellie, think about Natalie. She’s the most beautiful girl ever, and she’s in a wheelchair, just like you!” Alana reminded her.
Natalie was an older girl in their local high school who worked as a model. She had been disabled at a young age, but was now an inspiration to their town.
Ellie and Alana loved Natalie. She was their idol, and their parents had even printed a few pictures off her Instagram so the girls could stick them on their walls.
“You’re right. I must think of Natalie and what she would say in this situation. What do you think she would say?” Ellie asked her little sister. “I think Natalie would encourage us to play with whatever dolls we wanted,” Alana said happily, making Ellie laugh. The tears stopped, and they went to Ellie’s room to play with their Barbies.
A week later, it was finally Elle’s birthday, and she received many amazing gifts. Many people and friends showed up.

Kite Flying
In ancient times, people did not have good medical resources. So they wrote their health problems on paper kites. When a paper kite was in the air, people would cut off the string to let it fly away, meaning the disease would go away. Later flying kites developed into a popular game in spring.
Three Hous
The ancient Chinese people divided the fifteen days of the Spring Equinox into three hous or five day parts. As the old saying goes, “Swallows fly back to the North in the first hou; thunder cracks the sky in the second hou; lightning occurs frequently in the third hou, which shows the climate feature during the term.”
Spring Vegetables
It is a commonly practised custom to eat spring vegetables in many regions of China Spring vegetables refer to the seasonal vegetables that differ from place to place. The ancient teachings in a Chinese classic suggest people eat the seasonal food, especially vegetables, to help preserve health and bring good luck.

Standing an egg upright (直立的) is a popular game across the country during the Spring Equinox. It is an old custom that can date back to thousands of years ago. People practise this tradition to celebrate the coming of spring. It is said that if someone can make the egg stand he will have good luck in the future.

Organ Pipe Cactus (仙人掌) National Monument

Sedona
Sedona is regularly described as one of America’s most beautiful places. Nowhere else will you find a landscape as dramatically colorful. The towering red rocks and jagged sandstone hills matched against an almost always blue sky have attracted professional and young artists for years. Plus, filmmakers have chosen these burning rock formations in north-central Arizona as the backdrop for such box-office hits as “3:10 to Yuma,” “Broken Arrow” and “Midnight Run.”
Orlando Watersports Complex (OWC)
On top of all that exciting lake-borne action, those looking for something exciting can take part in OWC’s Aquapark, a group of LEGO-inspired ships with climbing barriers, slides and more that will wear you and more importantly, your kids out! No special skills are required, life jackets keep things super safe, and hours of fun are virtually guaranteed. The minimum age for the Aqua park is six and reservations are definitely recommended.
