About Summer at Emerson
Summer at Emerson is open to all students, regardless of which school they attend. We offer several individual (独立的) weeks of half-day camps and full-day camps to children who have completed or will end grades K-8 during the 2022-2023 school year. Note: A child who is enrolling (注册) in Kindergarten in the 2023-2024 school year is not yet qualified (能胜任) to attend Summer at Emerson
Facilities & Staff
Emerson School is equipped with (配备有) technology labs, Performing Arts Theater, and gymnasium (体育馆) as well as the outdoor sports fields, and nature areas will be fully used throughout the summer staff of caring and experienced instructors. All camps are designed and run by a professional and counselors (顾问). Summer at Emerson is fully permitted (允许；准许) by the State of Michigan as a child care provider, and the majority of our staff members are CPR and First Aid certified (获得资格的).

Strawberry Music Festival
Held at the most beautiful fairgrounds in California, Strawberry Music Festival takes over the Nevada County Fairgrounds every Memorial Day for four days of family fun. This park, which is set in the Sierra Nevada foothills, offers the perfect environment for camping and performances by some of the top artists. The festival also offers children’s programmes, workshops and activities for all ages.
Tree Town Music Festival
You don’t have to be in the Southwest or in Texas to enjoy yourself in the country lifestyle. Country living can be found all over the United States. The Tree Town Music Festival in Forest City, Iowa, is a great example of country fun in the Midwest. The Tree Town Music Festival features (以……为特色) camping and live music from some of the biggest names in modern country.
Tampa Bay Indian Music & Dance Festival
This festival shows respect for the traditions of India and its people. Food, music and performances are top attractions and display the Indian heritage proudly. Yoga fans can catch a relaxing practice through kirtan (唱颂). This experience of Indian culture is fun for all ages.
SXSW Music Festival
The SXSW Music festival is a global music event taking place every March in Austin, Texas. Each year the SXSW Music Festival receives a wonderful mix of artists performing in bars, clubs, parks, hotels and more in Austin, Texas. This festival is a celebration of everything about mangoes. It features different kinds of mangoes and various food items that are made from them. The Garlic(大蒜)Festival

This is one of the largest events that the Isle of Wight hosts each year, and it shows recipes made from garlic. Some foods made out of garlic and garlic beer are available there. The festival also features live music and a country fair.

Darling Harbour

7 . In my first year of teaching in Houston, I was asked to act as a batman at a birthday party.

I ran into the party and saw the "birthday"boy with his dad.The dad laughed,"I told you,son.A batman has a moustache."Then he showed me the huge birthday cake with a batman drawn on it,and the batman had a moustache. I just stared at it in disbelief. But it was a thick black line drawn underneath his nose, just like my moustache.
All the children said,"A batman doesn't have a moustache."Instead of admitting the cake was messed up, the parents tried to save face, saying,"No,a batman always has a moustache. He just shaves it for his movies."Naturally,the children were doubtful, but my moustache became the detail that confirmed what the parents had said. Those children of the perfect age still believed in wonders and superheroes and they were pleased to find something kept hidden from others.
That year,I struggled a lot with my identity.Was I a teacher or a clown（小丑）? But that day, I may not have been the hero they ordered,and crtainly I wasn't the hero they expected, but I was the hero they needed.

Denmark: Break plates
A Danish tradition is to throw plates and dishes against friend’s and neighbor’s front doors. It’s a bit of a popularity contest as the bigger the pile of broken china is the next morning, the more friends and good luck you’ll have in the coming year.
Germany: Pouring lead
In Germany, people melt small pieces of lead in a spoon over a candle, then pour the liquid into cold water. The shapes from the lead pouring are supposed to reveal what the year ahead will bring. If the lead forms a ball, luck will roll one’s way, while the shape of a crown means wealth; a cross means death and a star will bring happiness.
Spain: Twelve grapes of luck
In Spain, one New Year’s tradition is to eat 12 grapes, one for each month of the coming year, to secure prosperity (繁荣). You need to eat one grape with each bell strike at midnight. The tradition dates from 1909 when farmers in Alicante came up with this idea to sell more grapes after an exceptional harvest.
Philippines: Round food, round clothes, round everything
In the Philippines, the start of the new year is all about the money. The locals believe that surrounding themselves with round things (to represent coins) will bring money or fortune. As a result, clothes with dots are worn and round food is eaten.

9 . The National Park Service in the United States will mark its one hundredth anniversary in 2016. As it nears its second century, the Park Service plans to increase its educational programs for students and teachers.
The plans include transportation support for one hundred thousand students each year to visit national parks to learn about nature and history. Yellowstone is believed to have been the world’s first national park when it was established in 1872. Other students will get a chance to see parks in faraway places through Skype and other online programs.
The National Park Service also works with partners to provide education. One of its partners is a nonprofit organization called NatureBridge. NatureBridge is celebrating its fortieth anniversary and says one million young people have taken part in its programs. The organization works with students from kindergarten through twelfth grade and uses national parks as its classrooms. It provides field science programs at Yosemite National Park and four other locations in California and the northwestern state of Washington.
Now, NatureBridge is launching an East Coast center with a fourmilliondollar grant from Google. The program will begin in April at the Prince William Forest Park in Virginia. Students stay for three to five days in NatureBridge programs. The activities are aimed at developing their science skills. For example, they learn about different soils and study water quality under a microscope.
Jason Morris is executive vice president of NatureBridge. He says when they are not sleeping, eating or in a laboratory, the students spend their time outdoors. Julia Washburn is associate director of education and interpretation for the National Park Service. She says in a time of budget cuts, the agency has to find ways to still meet its goals. Ms. Washburn says one of the most important services that the Park Service provides every day is nature interpretation. Park rangers (公园管理员) try to make visiting the outdoors more meaningful. Interpretation is a form of informal education. Essentially, it is a word that we use for the people in parks that explain the park or help orient (确定方向) you. So park rangers are interpreters. They orient you to the place you are in and help you make connections, emotional and intellectual connections, with the place.
