As we all know, festivals     1     (celebrate) all around the world and they have     2     wide range of origins, such as the seasons of the year, religions, famous figures, and important events. Of all the     3     (tradition) festivals, the harvest festival,     4     takes place after all the crops have been gathered in, can be found in almost every culture. People celebrate     5     (show) that they are grateful for the year’s supply of food. Customs play a significant role     6     festivals, but sometimes they can change over time.

With the     7     (develop) of modern society and the spread of new ideas, some traditions may fade away and others may be established. Festivals are becoming more and more commercial, with businesses     8     (take) advantage of the celebrations. Festivals reflect people’s wishes, beliefs, faiths, and attitudes towards life.     9     you study festivals carefully, you may be surprised to find that different cultures     10     (actual) have a lot in common after all.

When night     1     (fall), do things at the Palace Museum come alive? This year, the Palace Museum organized its first light show in the evening in     2     (celebrate) of the Lantern Festival.

Public enthusiasm was raised when the museum made an announcement that people could visit parts of the outer walls from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm on February 19th and 20th. Visitors didn’t have to pay for the tickets but they had to make reservations in advance. All tickets     3     (book) within 10 minutes.

For     4     first time, people were allowed     5     (visit) the Forbidden City at night. Three thousand lucky ticket holders were treated     6     a spectacular (壮观的) light show, which lit up     7     was China’s imperial palace from 1420 to 1911. The     8     (wonder) show was also broadcast online, attracting tens of millions of viewers.

The night visitors could also climb up to the Meridian Gate on the south side and walk through the southern and eastern sections of the walls, which were lit up by red lanterns. Some areas near the walls were also lit up to offer     9     (guest) a better night view.

We don’t know if there will be another night tour in the future, but we’re still looking forward to     10     (get) the chance.

4 . Festivals and celebrations    1    (hold) to honour famous people and events. In China, there are many festivals, among    2    the most important one is the Spring Festival.

The Spring Festival in China is    3    (traditional) celebrated on January 1st in Lunar New Year.

    4    New Year’s Eve, the whole family gather together    5    (eat) a family reunion dinner and watch TV,    6    (enjoy) wonderful    7    (perform). Children love dressing    8    in fine new clothes and sometimes have lucky money in red paper. At times, people set off fireworks and they can watch dragon dances.

They also spend much time    9    (visit) their relatives and friends. When people meet, they say to each other “Happy New Year.” You can see    10    happy they are!
