文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章提出了家长如何帮助孩子们理解有关金钱的问题。并从三方面提供了解决问题的方法:解释钱的基本功能、教会孩子理性花钱和做出明智的选择。

1 . Money Matters

Parents should help their children understand money.     1    . So you may start talking about money when your child shows an interest in buying things, candy or toys, for example.

● The basic function of money

Begin explaining the basic function of money by showing how people trade money for goods or services. It is important to show your child how money is traded for the things he wants to have.If he wants to have a toy, give him the money and let him hand the money to the cashier(收银员).    2    . When your child grows a bit older and understands the basic function of money, you can start explaining more complex ways of using money.

● Money lessons

Approach money lessons with openness and honesty.     3    . If you must say no to a child’s request to spend money, explain, “You have enough toy trucks for now.” Or, if the request is for many different things, say, “You have to make a choice between this toy and that toy.”

    4

Begin at the grocery store. Pick out two similar brands of a product—a kind of name-brand butter and a generic (无商标消费品),for example. You can show your child how to make choices between different brands of a product so that you can save money.     5    . If he chooses the cheaper brand, allow him to make another purchase with the money saved. Later, you may explain how the more expensive choice leaves less money for other purchases.

A.Wise decisions
B.The value of money
C.Permit the child to choose between them
D.Tell your child why he can—or cannot—have certain things
E.Ask yourself what things that cost money are most important to you
F.Talk about how the money bought the thing after you leave the toy store
G.The best time to teach a child something about money is when he shows an interest

4 . Demand for the Chinese tech company's devices (设备) is red hot even though the country's overall market for smartphones is getting smaller. Huawei's China sales rocketed more than 20% in the final quarter of 2019,and experts say that partly due to the US government's global campaign against the company.

“The latest tension between the US and China raised the patriotism (爱国主义) in Chinese consumers”, said Jusy Hong, an analyst at research firm IHS Markit.

He pointed out that some Chinese companies encouraged employees to buy Huawei phones late last year. The moves were a gesture of support after the firms chief financial officer was arrested in Canada in early December at the request of the United States.

Huawei sold 30 million phones in China in the last three months of 2018, nearly three times as many as Apple (AAPL), according to data published this week by research firms Canalys and IDC. Apples sales plunged almost 20%.

Huaweis success in China, the worlds largest smartphone market, is more than about geopolitics (地缘政治). Chinese consumers (消费者) love its flagship, high-end-phones because they have great cameras, cutting edge technology and cost less than the latest iPhones, according to analysts. And by offering a selection of cheaper phones, Huawei is able to target a bigger market.

It also benefited from the troubles this year at ZTE (ZTCOF), a rival Chinese smartphone and telecommunications equipment maker. ZTE was banned by the US government from buying vital American parts for months last year.

1. Why did Huawei's China sales increase greatly according to the article?
A.Because the company's devices are always popular worldwide.
B.Because Chinese consumers patriotism was aroused.
C.Because the government encourages people to buy Huawei devices.
D.Because the countrys overall market for smartphones is getting bigger.
2. What can we conclude from the third paragraph?
A.Huawei's chief financial officer was arrested in Canada due to the US's request.
B.All Chinese companies showed their support to Huawei with their purchase.
C.Jusy Hong thought the United States arrested Huawei's chief financial officer.
D.Jusy Hong thought the arrest of Huawei's chief financial officer is unfair.
3. How do you understand the underlined word in the fourth paragraph?
A.increased greatly byB.reduced greatly to
C.dropped greatly byD.remained steady
4. Why is Huawei's success in China more than about geopolitics?
A.Because Huawei has the largest smartphone market in the world.
B.Because Huawei's success is only limited within China mainland.
C.Because Huawei has the ability to target a bigger market in the world.
D.Because Chinese consumers are quite satisfied with Huawei smartphones.

6 . Online shopping is the process of buying goods and services from merchants(商家)over the Internet.     1     Books, clothing, household appliances, toys, software and health insurance are just some of the hundreds of products consumers can buy from an online store.

2     For example, when a person shops at a physical store, she has to drive to the store, find a parking place and walk throughout the store until she finds the products she needs. After finding the items she wants, she may often need to stand in a long line at the checkout counter.

In contrast, online shopping helps consumers avoid these disadvantages. A person only has to visit the store’s website and choose the items she desires. The process can be conducted in the early hours of the morning or late into the night.     3

Despite the convenience, not everyone chooses to purchase items and services online. Some people like the idea of physically going to a store and experiencing the shopping process.     4     Online shopping doesn’t permit shoppers to touch the products or allow them to take the goods home the same day they buy it.

Some consumers avoid shopping online because they worry that the products are not accurately described in the website’s pictures.     5     A consumer has to rely on body measurements to make sure the clothing fits properly.

A.Online stores almost never close.
B.At first, there were few shoppers online.
C.It’s also impossible to try on clothing bought over the Internet.
D.Consumers can buy a huge variety of items from online stores.
E.Many people choose to shop online because of the convenience.
F.They like to touch the goods and be surrounded by other people.
G.Shopping online is safer when you are buying from a well-known company.

7 . Choosing what to wear can be a tricky problem, especially if you’re a fashion victim. Trying to keep up with the latest styles involves regular visits to the shops and sometimes wasting money on expensive designer clothes. But when the fashion changes, these clothes are forgotten in the back of cupboards gathering dust, or just get thrown away.

There are many stores that now offer cheap “fast fashion”—low-price items that imitate the styles of more expensive designer brands. Environmentalists are angered by the amount of energy involved in making these clothes and that many of them are made from non-recyclable materials. This means that items go into landfill or are just incinerated, which is responsible for 20% of the world’s waste water, and 10% of carbon emissions.

This is something the fashion industry is becoming more aware of and has led to a new crop of biomaterials that replace wasteful textiles like cotton and leather. Examples include Piñatex, a leather-like substance made from deserted pineapple leaves. It’s been used in collections by Hugo Boss and H&M. And there’s mycelium, the root structure of mushroom that’s being used to create food, packaging and textiles.

Cotton is a very resource-intense crop to grow. Eleanor Lawrie says “about 15,000 liters of water are required to make one pair of jeans.” So, buying organic cotton is a better choice. And there is also Tencel, also known as Lyocell, a natural product that’s now growing in popularity.

“But creating sustainable textiles is only part of the battle. Buying second hand and buying fewer clothes are the obvious environmentally friendly choices.” said Dr. Richard from Leeds School of Design “I don’t think you should consider buying any item of clothing unless you commit to 30 years.”

1. Which of the following statements is correct?
A.Most people are not good at choosing what to wear.
B.The fashion industry tricks people into buying fashionable clothes.
C.Environmentalists are angry about buying fashionable clothes.
D.The cheap fast fashion industry should be to blame.
2. Which word can replace the underlined word in paragraph 2?
A.Donated.B.Recycled.C.Burnt.D.Stored.
3. What clothes is an environmentalist most likely to buy?
A.Clothes made of cotton.B.Clothes made of mushroom.
C.Clothes made of leatherD.Clothes made of Tencel.
4. What can we learn from Dr. Richard Blackburn’s word?
A.Clothes made of cotton will benefit the environment.
B.Don’t buy new clothes unless you make full use of the existing ones.
C.Second-hand clothes can be unhealthy for wearers.
D.Sustainable textiles will solve the environmental problems.
