4 . A small but shining silver lining: The corona-virus has quickened the shift to pedal power in Europe. The German Cycling Association (ADFC) reports that Germans across the country are spending twice as much time biking as they were before the COVID-19. There is growing demand for bikes and shared-bike subscriptions, and now even shortages throughout bicycle supply chain. For bike shops it's an unexpected boom. So much so that it requires cities to improve their biking facilities.

In unimagined numbers, bikes are starting to take the place of cars in our cities. It has increased 930 miles of new bike lanes (车道) in Europe, “muscling aside cars on Europe’s city streets,” according to European Cyclists Federation. Belgium, Denmark, and the Netherlands are pioneering fast lanes for riders. “Pop-up lanes” are being used for bikes in Berlin and Paris; Rome has painted new bike lanes, in each case taking away lanes from cars.

Women riders are reportedly another big factor in the biking transformation. E-bikes are, too. E-bikes use an onboard battery to boost power when the rider is going up a hill, or just needs a rest. E-bikes have removed “the sweat factor”. Who wants to show up to work or a party sweaty?

The European Cyclists’ Federation states that bikes are also strongly supported by European governments to cut carbon and increase the quality of their cities. European countries provide direct financial stimulation for cyclists.

At the end of April, France announced a 20 million Euro plan to promote cycling after the end of the lockdown. The plan includes 50 Euro vouchers (代金券) for the repair of a bike. Italy worked on a regulation for Covid recovery, by means of which 120 million Euro was set aside to cover 70% and up to 500 Euro of the price of conventional, muscle-powered and electric bikes.

2. How many factors contribute to the growing demand for bikes in Europe?
A.Two.B.Three.C.Four.D.Five.

C.More women in Europe choose to go to work by bike than men.
D.Financial support is the main reason why Europeans choose bikes.
4. Where is the passage probably taken from?
A.A guidebook.B.A business plan.
C.A science report.D.A newspaper.

5 . As the world starts to become increasingly aware of the dirty carbon footprint left behind by airplane travel, could it be time to bring back to the air ship? Hybrid Air vehicle, a UK-based company, has recently displayed a new concept design of their around 100-passenger air-ships that hopes to revolutionize city tripping, all while reducing carbon emissions (排放). The images of the flashy inside parts are just an ambitious plan for the moment, but the company argued the air ship would be well-suited to city-to-city trips.

A journey by air ship would take slightly longer than one by airplane. For example, a flight from Liverpool to Belfast across the Irish Sea is approximately 4 hours and 24 minutes, check-in and security time included, while the air ship will take 5 hours and 20 minutes in theory. However, the payoff comes in the amount of carbon dioxide released—67.75 kilograms (149.36 pounds) of carbon emissions per passenger by plane, compared to 4.75 kilograms (10,47 pounds) per passenger by air ship.

The company claims their standard Airlander 10 model can now complete journeys with a total of a 75 percent reduction in emissions compared to conventional aircrafts. They eventually hope to introduce a hybrid-electric (混合电能的) model by 2025, which would reduce emissions by 90 percent, then a totally electric model by 2030 that would be a zero emissions aircraft.

In a bid to attract air travel enthusiasts, the company also hopes to make the experience more pleasurable than the typical journey of sticky seats and minimal leg room. “For many decades flying from A to B has meant sitting in a metal tube with tiny windows—a necessity but not always a pleasure. On Airlander, the whole experience is pleasant, even enjoyable,” George Land, Commercial Business Development Director at Hybrid Air vehicle, said in a recent statement.

1. What is the new air ship designed for?
A.Trips with fewer passengers.
B.Reducing the use of carbon.
C.Traveling specially between cities.
D.The lowest cost of trips for passengers.
2. Why does the author list the figures in paragraph 2?
A.To highlight the speed of the airplane.
B.To stress the disadvantages of the new airship.
C.To indicate the potential market of the new airship
D.To present the positive effect of the new air ship on the environment.
3. What is the plan of the company for the new air ship?
A.Producing a fully electric model by 2030.
B.Producing a hybrid-electric model by 2030.
C.Completing the standard Airlander 10 model by 2025.
D.Putting the standard Airlander la model into service by 2025.
4. What does George Land think of the traditional airplane?
A.It's much safe.B.Its space is too narrow,
C.Its seats are too hard.D.Its atmosphere is more pleasant.

6 . With Chengdu as its station of origin and Lodz its terminal, the Chengdu-Europe Express Railway helps to build business links between the two cities. It also connects a Polish man's heart to Chengdu.

The 29-year-old Maciej Czastka comes from Lodz, Poland. He has been in Chengdu for four years since he finished his degree in East Asia relations at the University of Lodz.

"I was always hoping to visit China after graduation because of my major. I knew at that time that a cross-continental cargo train would leave from Lodz so I wanted to visit its other end," said Maciej.

After graduation, he applied to Sichuan University for language study. He now works for Amber Global Consulting, a company that provides services to Polish manufacturers and merchants to help them enter the Chinese market.

During his four-year life in Chengdu, Maciej witnessed the opening of the Chengdu-Europe Express Railway, the friendly city relations established between Chengdu and Lodz and the booming business between the two cities.

9 . Have you ever been on an airplane, minding your own business, and found your eyes filled with tears for no reason? Or perhaps you sat near someone who burst into tears. Is there something happening to the body that causes the tears?

There sure is! When you’re inside a flying airplane, you’re miles off the ground. Not exactly a place where humans usually find themselves. The airplane is pressurized (加压) to keep passengers comfortable. But it’s still not the pressure levels that you’ll experience at ground level. It’s a bit like having climbed a pretty high mountain.

The main cause is the lower amount of oxygen in your blood. The oxygen levels in the plane are lower than you’ll find on the ground. And it can bring you bad feelings.

Another cause is dehydration. Because the air in the plane is very dry, we may get dehydrated. And being dehydrated can have all kinds of harmful effects on your 30,000-foot-high body, which is making you have bad feelings like sadness and worry.

In fact, there is a spiritual reason, too! Even if you’re not afraid of planes, it’s a high-stress situation. Taking a flight often involves saying goodbye to someone in the place you’re leaving. You can also be worried about plane crash or losing your baggage.

You can drink plenty of water before your flight to fight back your tears. You can also keep your mind busy with a puzzle or brain game. And if you’re going to watch a movie, maybe choose one that’s a bit more relaxing. In short, make flying a more pleasant and less stressful experience.

1. Why are some questions raised in the first paragraph?
A.To lead to the topic of the text.
B.To offer background information.
C.To make people focus more on feelings.
D.To show the dos and don’ts on the plane.
2. Which can cause people’s tears during the flight?
A.The weather.B.The height.
C.Their experiences.D.Being alone.
3. What does the underlined word “dehydration” in paragraph 4 mean?
A.Being too worried.
B.Catching a cold.
C.Sleeping too much during the day.
D.Losing too much water from one’s body.
4. What can people do to fight back tears according to the text?
A.Do a word puzzle.
B.Watch a sad movie.
C.Choose the seat by the window.
D.Get more information about the flight.

China is facing seriously traffic problems. Too much cars travel on the roads. This heavy traffic causes delays and a plenty of air pollution. Although many cities in China have traffic problems, some of the worse are in Beijing. One of the reason why there is so much traffic is what only a small number of people use public transportation.

I think one way solve the traffic problems was to make people use the public transportation system. For example, they can take buses instead of drive cars. Meanwhile, the government should make them more reliable and convenient to travel by bus.
