Over half of adults in China or more than half a billion people are now overweight, an official report has found. The figures have increased     1     (large) since 2002 when 29% of adults were overweight.

The country’s rapid economic(经济)    2     (grow) in recent years has led to major changes to lifestyle, diet and exercise habits. In October, Chinese government announced plans to deal with rising levels of obesity(肥胖). A higher obesity     3    (increase)the risk for a number of diseases including heart disease.

The obesity has come under renewed focus during the pandemic(流行病)as     4    (study) have showed that overweight or obese people are more likely     5    (suffer)trouble or death from Covid-19. The report blamed decreasing levels of physical activity for the country’s obesity,    6     less than a quarter of the adult population exercising at least once a week.

A growing love for meat and a low consumption(消耗)of fruit were also thought of as factors behind the rise. Wang Dan,    7     nutritionist in the city of Harbin, told the AFP news that many adults in the country now “exercise too little, are under too much pressure, and have a (n)     8    (healthy) work schedule”.

China is one of the countries     9     have seen an increase in the number of overweight people in recent years. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that levels of obesity across the world     10    (rise) greatly since 1975, including in low and middle-income countries.

In 1985, there was little rainfall in Ethiopia, which     1    (lead) to poor harvests and the death of many of the country's cattle. Bob Geldof organized a charity concert to help the victims. In wrestling with the dilemma of worldwide hunger, the United Nations set up an agency,     2    (call)the World Food Programme.

Today, some developing countries in Africa, Asia and South America still need help in order not to fall further behind. The sad truth is that    3    (mere) sending loaves of bread is far from enough.There is     4    saying that goes,'Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day.   Teach a man    5    (fish), and you feed him for the rest of his life'. In a bid to find a permanent solution to this long-term problem, countries need to develop.

    6    developing countries need most is to stop    7    (poor) by fighting the causes of it. Another way to help is through the development of private enterprise along with job training. Finally. we must remember that the future of a country lies in the hands of    8    (it)children.

A lot is being done,     9     we cannot pretend that the fight is over.     10    (great) efforts need to be made so that people all over the world live better lives.
