文章大意:这是一篇说明文。研究和调查表明,适当的兼职会让学生们学会独立、获取阅历、为将来工作做好准备,同时还要在做兼职和有足够的时间学习和休息之间取得平衡。

1 . When you were at school, the last thing you probably wanted to do was to spend your weekends going to work. There was homework to do, sports to play and fun to have. But our parents probably persuaded us to find a job to earn some money and get some life experience. When I was a teenager I delivered newspapers to people’s homes. I then progressed to a Saturday job in a supermarket: stacking shelves and working at the checkout.

Today in the UK you are allowed to work from the age of 13, and many children do take up part-time jobs. It’s one of those things that are seen almost as a rite of passage(成人仪式). It’s a taste of independence and sometimes a useful thing to put on your CV(简历). Teenagers agree that it teaches valuable lessons about working with adults and also about managing their money.

Some research has shown that not taking up a Saturday or holiday job could be deleterious to a person later on. A 2015 study by the UK Commission on Employment and Skills found that not participating in part-time work at school age had been blamed by employer’s organizations for young adults being ill-prepared for full-time employment, but despite this, recent statistics have shown that the number of schoolchildren in the UK with a part-time job has fallen by a fifth in the past five years.

So, does this mean that British teenagers are now afraid of hard work? Probably not. Some experts feel that young people feel going out to work will affect their performance at school, and they are under more pressure now to study hard and get good exam results and a good job in the long term. However, Geoff Barton, general secretary of the Association of School and College Leaders, told BBC News that “Properly regulated part-time work is a good way of helping young people learn skills that they will need in their working lives.” In reality, it’s all about getting the right balance between doing part-time work and having enough time to study and rest.

1. How did the author feel about doing part-time jobs on weekends when he was a teenager?
A.Delighted.B.Interested.C.Unwilling.D.Angry.
2. Which of the following may NOT be the benefit of school children’s doing part-time jobs?
A.Learning to be independent.B.Gaining some life experience.
C.Being prepared for future jobs.D.Spending what they earn as they like.
3. What does the underlined word “deleterious” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
A.Valuable.B.Harmful.C.Necessary.D.Impossible.
4. What can we learn from Paragraph 4?
A.Students should spend all their time on studies.
B.Students should have as many part-time jobs as possible.
C.Doing part-time jobs must affect students’ school results.
D.It’s important for students to balance part-time jobs and studies.

2 . Many primary school students in Jiangsu Province suffered from such symptoms as nosebleeds, dizziness and rashes after attending schools that recently installed plastic running tracks on their playgrounds. Parents of primary school students in several cities reported similar symptoms in their children after school began in September, 2015.

The provincial educational department said on Wednesday that schools with these plastic tracks must have professionals carry out tests. It sent a team of experts to look into the whole work of the building of the tracks. Any illegal behavior will be punished without mercy.

Chen Yun, a teacher in Wuxi, said no organization could provide the school with an official test report for its track. “The local disease control center said they can examine and analyze the air in an enclosed space, such as classrooms and washrooms. But they cannot test in open spaces,” Chen said. Local environmental protection centers have also refused to test the air around the plastic running tracks.

According to the Jiangsu Environmental Protection Bureau, China has no standards for the running track industry, which will make the air measurements useless as there are no data in determining whether the air is polluted. Besides, materials used to build the tracks are not tested when they are produced at factories because of, also, NO industry standards! So what we have to do now is, of course, that these measures should be made in no time.

Ye Ping, director of Taizhou Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Institute, said harmful things in plastic running tracks may lead to diseases. “The plastic tracks in China are mainly made up of polyurethane, a kind of nontoxic material,” said Ye. “However, suppliers may add toxic adhesives. They give a bad smell and may cause dizziness and rashes. Some suppliers may also add a kind of material that helps the plastic to solidify, but the lead contained in it will raise lead levels above normal in children’s blood after longtime exposure.”

Ye added that the country has not put forward rules about the examination of volatile organic compounds given off by tracks.

The Jiangsu educational department has suggested that middle schools in Nanjing grow natural grass on their playgrounds.

1. According to Chen Yun, ______.
A.parents of primary school students firstly reported problems about their children.
B.no official reports about the tracks could be got at the moment.
C.local environmental protection centers worked hard to find out the causes.
D.there are no standards for the running track industry at present.
2. Who believes it is the harmful things in the tracks that may cause the problems?
A.Ye PingB.expertsC.Chen YunD.parents

A.Without standards for the running track industry, the air measurements might be useless.
B.The schools with these plastic tracks must have professionals carry out tests.
C.Many primary school students suffered from nosebleeds after attending schools.
D.Middle schools in Nanjing should grow natural grass on their playgrounds.
4. Based on the analysis, who deserves to be punished for the sick students?
A.The primary schoolsB.Some suppliers
C.The educational departmentD.The disease control center
5. What work does the writer think should be done at once according to the passage?
A.Experts should be sent to test the materials of the tracks.
B.Students should be examined to find the reasons for their illnesses.
C.The plastic running tracks should be removed to grow natural grass instead.
D.The measures for the running track industry should be worked out.

7 . In San Francisco, where the number of the homeless has risen by 7% in the last decade, a non-profit organization is putting bathrooms on wheels and driving them to those in need. The group, Lava Mae, is improving retiring city buses and bringing them into different neighborhoods, currently providing about 200 showers each week.

Doniece Sandoval, the founder of Lava Mae, first became interested in the issue in 2012, when she passed a young woman under an overpass near the San Francisco Design Center who was repeating to herself that she'd never get clean. ''It made me wonder what her chances were, '' said Sandoval, who was then inspired to research exactly how many public shower stalls(淋浴间)existed in the city. Her findings were disheartening.

So Lava Mae came together when she heard the city would be retiring cold city buses. ''I told myself, I want those buses!'' she said.

Each bus has two private bathrooms, one of which is wheelchair accessible. Along with the basic shower, sink and toilet, the spaces have soft lighting, digital controls for water, and hair dryers.

''Though you're only going to be on the bus for 20 minutes or so, it's 20 minutes of complete privacy,'' Said Sandoval.

The buses are parked near agencies that already serve the homeless. ''If we can reduce the amount of time people have to run from place to place to get essential services, we'll be able to make things better, '' said Sandova.

10 . The Disneyland parks are full of amusements, but they're also small cities that deal with deliveries, rubbish, and groups of visitors. People need to move from one place to another; they have to refuel and relax. To meet these requirements, the parks are well-equipped in reality. For example, Disneyland Park in California has a reliable transport system. In Walt Disney World in Florida, dustbins are spaced 30 feet apart, and all of them are emptied through underground tubes(地下管道).

None of this happened by accident. Walt Disney first had his idea for a play land in 1937. He first imagined the park’s buildings in a small size. He spent years collecting ideas by visiting other places. He studied Beverly Park in Los Angeles, including rebuilt historic villages. He visited Colonial Williamsburg, where employees dressed up and walked around… Then he organized a team of engineers and designers to plan and build a small world he called Disneyland. Walt Disney had blueprints(蓝图) drawn up, and tried to get the permission to break ground(破土动工).

In 1952, he showed his plan to the Burbank City government, for a 16-acre site between Griffith Park and his studio in Burbank. They didn't go for it. ''We don't want the carnival(嘉年华会) atmosphere, '' an official said. ''We don't want the loud music and screaming.''

The failure got Disney thinking even bigger. In 1953, he closed a deal to buy some land in Anaheim. Some designers thought it was too far, but Disney went ahead. It was like building a new city. Pipes had to be fixed. Railway track had to be laid around. Disney chose the hub-and-spoke(轴辐式) street pattern that many cities have. ''I want Disneyland to be a place where you can't get lost, '' he said. Designers and architects also diagrammed(图解) the rides and made models, while artists painted the background.

Finally in July 1955, the visitors came. If they picked up maps, they could see the results of years' planning: the shops and restaurants, the square, and the streets. The magic city had finally jumped off the drawing board and come into real life.
