1 . Kansas City Girls Academy has a program for girls struggling in life. It is designed to help girls build inner strength to overcome challenges. If your girls have emotional difficulties or failing in school, this program is designed just for them.
Group Treatment. It is made up of several small groups weekly, led by our counselors (顾问) and staff. These include problem-solving, positive friend relationship, emotional management and special group designed for special treatment needs. All group processes develop emotional growth in a safe and confidential (机密的) setting.
Individual Treatment. It is provided to each student with a minimum of one part every other week. The parts help students gain insights into their individual behaviors and establish a trusting relationship with their counselor. In this setting, students process issues that are too sensitive for them to share with a group.
Family Treatment. It is provided by a weekly telephone meeting. Parents give treatment as an necessary part of the program. Kansas City Girls Academy encourages families to visit during planned family weekends. Family and students meet with their counselor for treatment. Parents and children also participate in parent support groups, parent-teacher meetings, workshops, and graduation ceremonies (典礼).
Horse Treatment. In partnership with Returning Glory, we offer each girl horse treatment. Horses are powerful and effective in helping people, whether child, youth or adult. They have much to teach us about our patterns of behavior, communication, and relationships. Horses are excellent “teachers,” coupled with trained teachers. Interacting with horses can often provide invaluable assistance in addressing challenging life issues in a fun, non-threatening learning environment.

2 . Strategies for Getting Kids off Screens
It’s time to keep kids off the screens! Parents should use the winter vacation to remind their children of what it’s like to play freely, offline for hours on end.
Set clear screen time limits
Establish how many minutes or hours you’re OK with them each week, and make it something that can never be changed. For example, you could say they’re allowed to watch for an hour on Sunday morning, or for 15 minutes in the evening while dinner is being made, or none at all for the rest of the winter—and then stick to it.
Get kids cooking
Involve them in meal preparation by assigning recipes that you’d like them to make each day.
There are numerous half- and full-day camp options and lessons that can occupy a child’s time, such as swimming, art classes, tennis, dinosaur camp and sports camp. Look around your community for activities that can get them out of the house for a few hours each day.
Establish a reading routine (习惯)

3 . Just a few days after Valentine’s Day, Tinder and the French NGO A voté made their cooperation official, “to match Generation Z with voting”. The partnership kicked off on Thursday and will run through April 8 – two days before the first round of France’s presidential elections – and has one goal: to get more French youths to cast their votes. The slogan is catchy too: “If you can date down your street … You can vote down your street.”
In practice this means that, from now on, French Tinder users will see election ads pop up as they swipe the app to look out for potential love interests.
A recent survey showed that 59 percent of French 18- to 30-year-olds who are already registered to vote plan to abstain(弃权) in the first round of the elections. Seeing that 50 percent of Tinder’s users belong to this very age group, “this partnership represents a great opportunity to raise awareness as much as possible,” co-president of A voté Flore Blondel-Goupil said.
One of the main reasons for France’s high youth abstention rates, however, is not a lack of interest but rather outdated or incorrect paperwork. A registration is invalid when a voter's polling station does not correspondent with their actual place of residence. This is a particularly common problem for young people, who often leave their parents’ homes to pursue studies elsewhere.
Studies show that having an incorrect voting registration address triples the risk of abstention. In 2017, 7.6 million French people were incorrectly registered, with 25- to 29-year-olds accounting for 51 percent of them. Adding to that, between 3 and 4 million French people were not registered to vote at all.
This is not the first time Tinder has helped countries fight voter abstention: It did so in Brazil in 2018, the United Kingdom in 2019, the United States in 2020 and Germany in 2021.

4 . Those supposedly “free” trials for various products and services can be attractive, but the trouble comes when all those free things end up costing you money.
Nearly 6 in 10 Americans who signed up for a free product trial were later charged against their will, according to a website named Bankrate. Users who forget to cancel before the trial period ends may find themselves charged a fee of $10 or $15 and included in what’s known as a ”negative option” plan, in which goods or services are sent unless a customer tells the seller not to send them. Other users may find themselves billed for the price of shipping.
And then there's the fine print . For Morgan Taylor, a marketer based in Scottsdale, Arizona, failing to carefully examine a website’s offer that let him download 10 songs for free ended up costing him money. The catch: Although he says he canceled before the trial period ended, Taylor was charged $9.90 because the terms said that the songs were free only with a one-month subscription(订购) and billed if the subscription was canceled.
“I tried to question the charge, but it was useless,"Taylor said.“I hadn't read the fine print.
The likelihood that a person will end up paying for a free trial after it ends actually increases with income and education level, Bankrate found. About two-thirds, or 65%,of people making $80,000 or more a year were charged after a free trial. Meanwhile, just over half of people making $40,000 or less found themselves forking over dollars.
"People with less education and less income seem to be keeping a closer eye on their money and therefore are less likely to be charged against their will.” Bankrate analyst Ted Rossman said.
Rossman gave a few suggestions to help customers avoid getting cheated. He said,“Before making up your mind, you'd better research the company, check the terms and conditions carefully and pay attention to the cancellation windows.”

7 . At first glance, it looks like a small revolution is happening in retail (零售) in America. Nearly 650, 000 workers in the sector quit their jobs in April, the biggest number in over 20 years. Driven by a combination of low wages, COVID-19 risks, and harassment (烦扰) from customers, many are leaving their retail jobs behind in search of something different.
Even before the pandemic, a lot of retail jobs weren’t good jobs. In 2017, the typical pay for full-time workers in the sector was less than $33, 000 a year, not enough to live on in many places. And unpredictable schedules left many workers scrambling to arrange child care or transportation at a moment’s notice, never sure if they’d get enough hours each week to pay their bills. Jobs in the industry were largely considered temporary jobs with low status and low pay.
Then, when the pandemic hit, those jobs also became dangerous, as employees at grocery stores and big-box retailers like Target and Walmart had to work in person while others sheltered at home. At least 158 grocery store workers have died of COVID-19 and at least 35, 100 have been infected or exposed and numbers for the industry as a whole are likely much higher. Then there are the customers. Harassment and rudeness are a fact of life in many retail jobs, even under normal conditions. Customers would often yell at groomers over things like not being able to provide a certain cut or service for a dog.
Retail workers who have concerns about their current jobs may also have more choices than before. With the economy reopening and many businesses looking to hire, there’s a demand for labor across sectors. But that doesn’t necessarily mean they were moving on to better jobs — wages across industries haven’t meaningfully risen, meaning workers who quit aren’t, as a whole, making more money. The fact that workers may have more choices, for now, isn’t yet translating into better choices. Overall, it’s not clear that the large number of workers quitting really means they have more power in the economy-power to demand not just a new job but one with higher pay, better conditions, and fairer treatment from customers and managers alike.
1. What can we learn from Paragraph 1?A.A lot of retail workers resign their jobs. |
B.The retail industry in America is promising. |

D.Were the retail jobs good or not? |
8 . According to China Central Television, 40 percent of singles in first-tier cities belong to the “moonlight clan” (月光族), mostly young people who live paycheck to paycheck. In lower city-tiers with lower monthly income, the proportion of the “moonlight clan” has risen sharply and 76 percent of single young people living in fourth and fifth-tier cities run out of money every month.
On the basis of data released by data analytics company Nielsen, 42 percent of singles spend for self-indulgence (自我放纵), compared to 27 percent of non-single consumers. The number of single adults reached 240 million in 2018. More than 77 million of those adults live alone and that number is expected to rise to 92 million by 2022, according to China’s Ministry of Civil Affairs.
They have converged into a huge new purchase power, giving birth to a new concept of singles self-indulgence spending.
Justin Sargent, president of Nielsen China, said: “The ‘single economy’ is the awakening of single people’s consumption awareness, which reflects their pursuit of a higher-quality life.” Singles spend on one-person entertainment. A quick getaway, a movie, a favorite meal, they’re willing to do whatever it takes to delight themselves. Single people are also more willing to spend money to find emotional support. As it’s reported, more than 70 percent of people born in the 1980s and 1990s have pets and most of them are single.
As the “singles economy” continues to thrive, more and more businesses are flocking to the track. The “singles economy” develops various products to meet the consumption habits of a single person, such as one-person dining, small home appliances, one-person travel. Because it is small scale single person spending, the characteristic such as flexibility, cost performance and fashion may become a trend gradually.
Many restaurants have introduced a single table, where the person is isolated, to attract consumers. Besides, many multifunctional small home appliances with smaller capacity and fashion design attract singles. Artificial intelligence is also entering the “singles economy.”

10 . Tesla’s leading position in the U.S. battery-electric vehicle market was facing a growing threat after its competitor Rivian scored a $3 billion funding round, raising its 2019 haul (数量) to $2.8 billion. The money was twice what Morgan Stanley forecasted for Tesla’s 2019 capital expenditures (资本支出) and would make Rivian a “serious” competitor. “Tesla may have a big lead today, but we expect this to change over time,” a team of New York-based Morgan Stanley analysts led by Adam Jonas wrote in a note sent to clients.
The analysts said Rivian’s cash haul might be bigger than Ford and General Motors’ combined spending on battery-electric vehicles in 2020 and enough to build a large factory in a low-cost country. It was also enough money to build two or three new models of electric vehicles. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said the e-commerce giant, which had invested in Rivian, aimed to have 100,000 of the vehicles on the road by 2030.
Tesla controlled about 80 percent of the U.S. battery-electric vehicle market, but Morgan Stanley said its current position was “unsustainable long term” and expected a start-up with access to talent and capital to provide the “next serious competition.” The firm’s analysts also saw increased rival carmakers.
One such threat was the $500 billion merger (合并) between Fiat Chrysler and Peugeot, announced last November, which created the fourth-largest automaker by sales. At the time the deal was announced, Eric Schiffer, CEO of the Los Angeles-based firm Patriarch Organization, told FOX Business the deal would create a high degree of competition over the next five years and “one of the greatest dangers” to Tesla’ s survival.
Tesla’s accomplishments in the electric car market haven’t gone unnoticed as others in the field have had their fair share of struggles. Nio, often referred to as the “Tesla of China,” needed a $200 million injection from CEO William Li and the Chinese gaming giant Tencent, one of its largest shareholders, when it was struggling to keep up with delivery targets. Meanwhile, the vacuum-maker Dyson killed its $3.1 billion electric car project, saying it was not commercially workable.
