As Mike tried to free     1     (he), the shark bit down even harder. He followed     2     he had learned: he hit the shark in the face, again and again until the shark set him free. Laba rice porridge was first introduced to China in the Song Dynasty about 900 years ago.

There is a     1     (touch) story. When Sakyamuni, the first Buddha and founder of the religion, was     2     his way into the high mountains in his quest for understanding and enlightenment (佛教的觉悟), he grew tired and    3     (hunger). Exhausted from     4     (day) of walking, he failed away by a river in India. A shepherdess (牧羊女) found him there and     5     (feed) him her lunch-porridge made with beans and rice. Sakyamuni was thus able     6     (continue) his Journey.

After six years of strict discipline, he     7     (final)realized his dream of full enlightenment on the     8    (eight) day of the twelfth lunar month. Ever since, monks have prepared rice porridge on the eve and held a ceremony the following day,     9     they chant sutras (吟诵佛经) and offer porridge to Buddha.

Thus, the tradition of eating Laba porridge was based in religion, though with the passing of time the food     10     (it) became a popular winter dish especially in cold northern China.

3 . The Language of Love

Music is a universal language, which has the most powerful magic in the world. Music is a sweet language to show love to those who love us and those who     1    (love) by us. Music is also a friendly language for unfamiliar people to show kindness. It is living everywhere and all the time in our daily life.

I learned this while    2     (take) care of a seagull unfortunate enough to swallow a hook. After calling the wildlife rescue center and learning that all its    3    (vehicle) were out on other business, I carefully    4     (wrap) (裹住) the wild bird in a towel and carried him to my friend’s car. The only way     5    (keep) him calm was by singing. For 30 minutes, I sang    6    (soft) to the small creature until finally delivering (递送) him    7    those who could help. I’m not certain     8    happened afterwards, but for that brief period, we two vastly different species connected, bridging     9     gap between us through songs.

    10    doesn’t matter whether there will be difficulties in communication，for love is always the theme of each piece of music.
