1 . 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

I am Sadie. I love oceans, especially the one near my grandma's house with beautiful shells. Why? That's what I am about to tell you.

It all started when my parents divorced a few weeks ago. I had remained silent since then. So my mother decided to send me to Florida to live with my grandma.

On the way to my grandma's house, my mother said, “Sadie, I know we are not the best family you can have and I truly apologize. I just do not know how to be a mother. But remember, Sadie, whatever happened, I do love you.” These words made me sadder.

When we arrived, Grandma told me to go upstairs and unpack my things while she spoke to my mother. When I saw a blue and green painted room with a huge window and a comfortable bed, I thought, “Moving to Florida might not be that bad.”   I comforted myself as I walked towards the window. I opened the curtains and saw skyblue waves slowly washing away the sand on the beach and sea birds flying in the clear sky. The ocean was only a few hundred meters away from here.

After my mother left, Grandma softly touched my shoulder, “I want to take you to the place I called ‘the Big Blue’. And I think you might like it.” (I guess you could know where it is.)

Before I stepped on the sand I could smell the ocean. Together we enjoyed the sunset with a whole lot of yellow and orange. Suddenly she picked out the most beautiful shell I had ever seen in my life. It was almost gold, shining in the sunlight. I couldn't move my eyes off it.

2 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Being a single parent can be extremely difficult. I recently went through a rough time while raising my four daughters on my own. Things had not been going well for me ever since we decided to take care of ourselves. My financial situation was not great since I had four growing girls to feed on my own. As a result of that, my family car was left in bad shape. As it broke down from time to time, I only used the car when it was absolutely necessary to do so.

But one rainy night, we desperately needed groceries so the five of us went for a quick run to the store. Once we had loaded groceries to the car, it wouldn’t start no matter how I tried. I was helpless in the parking lot with my four daughters aged 9, 5, 2 and a 6-weeks old. To make matters worse, I was not able to call anyone because my phone was disconnected.

One of my girls had mistakenly left a light on, and my battery was dead. I had no family to speak to and was on my own. I must have asked more than twenty people for help during the two hours. They all ignored me. Not even a no. They just acted like I didn’t exist. My 5-year-old was melting down. My newborn screaming, my two-year-old crying she was hungry, and my oldest desperately trying to help. I was crying and felt like the worst mom ever

When everything seemed hopeless, an elderly man, most probably in his 70s, came over and gave me a plate of chicken strips, biscuits and some water. He asked me to feed my girls and myself. He also said that he arranged for a tow truck to come get my car and his wife was on the way to fetch us back home. The tow truck came, the old man’s wife arrived to fetch us and we were finally back home.

3 . 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

My mother was a supporter of physical punishment, but for all her talking she has never spanked (打屁股) my siblings, and me only once. Instead she found ways of punishment that left a more lasting memory than giving us a spanking. One of the most memorable of these occasions occurred when I was four.

In the early 70’s my mother attended college during the day and I was in day care. One day at day care I watched an extremely tired mother attempt to pick up her daughter. The little girl asked,   Momma, are we going to McDonald’s for dinner?” The mother replied, “Honey, not tonight. Momma has to run a few errands (差事) and then we have to go home and cook dinner for Daddy.” “But I wanna go.” “Susie, I said not tonight. Maybe, if you are a good girl, we can go tomorrow.” Susie immediately dropped to the floor, kicking and screaming, “I want to go to McDonald’s.”

No amount of pleading (恳求) or scolding her mother tried stopped Susie’s tantrum (发脾气). Finally her mother gave in, “Okay, Susie, let’s go to McDonald’s.” Susie stopped yelling. With a smile on her face she grabbed her mother’s hand and they left. To say I was amazed would be inaccurate (不准确的); I was delighted that anything I wanted could be had by throwing a tantrum.

That day my mother picked me up early from day care because we were going to a store to purchase some Christmas items. I was excited by the lights and decorations, and as we walked through the toy section on the way to the counter, I saw a toy I had to have. It was a white and red telephone whose bells rang as it was pulled along on a string. Looking lovingly up at my mother I asked, “Mama, can I have that telephone? ”

She replied, “Baby, not now, but if you are a good girl, maybe Santa will bring it to you.” “But Mama, I want that telephone right now.” Her eyes narrowed and her hand tightened on mine. “Becky, you can’t have that telephone today, but if you misbehave, you can have a spanking.”

5 . 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

When I was ten, I was suddenly faced with the suffering of moving from the only home I had ever known. My whole life, brief as it was, had been spent in that big old house, gracefully touched with the laughter and tears of four generations.

When the final day came, I ran to the small backyard and sat alone, with tears welling up from my heart.Suddenly I felt a hand rest on my shoulder.I looked up to see my grandfather. “It isn't easy, is it, Billy?” he said softly, sitting down on the steps beside me.

“Grandpa,” I replied through my tears, “how can I ever say goodbye to you and all my friends?”

For a moment he just stared off into the apple trees.   “Goodbye is such a sad word,” he said.“It seems too final, too cold, for friends to use.We seem to have so many ways of saying goodbye and they all have one thing in common: sadness. When you and your friends must part, I want you to reach deep within you and bring back that first hello.Come with me, my friend,” he whispered.

We walked, hand in hand, to his favorite place in the front yard, where a huge red rosebush sat noticeably alone.Kneeling, he pulled me close.“It isn't just the roses that are beautiful, Billy. It's that special place in your heart that makes them so.”

His eyes met mine again.“Billy, I planted these roses a long time ago—before your mother came to the world. I put them into the soil the day my first son was born. It was my way of saying ‘thank you’   to God. That boy's name was Billy, just like yours.I used to watch him pick roses for his mother.” I saw my grandfather's tears.I had never seen him cry before. His voice became hoarse.

At the edge of the forest, the girl was bending her knees by her bike, the lead-out next to her. The girl must have gotten a flat. Hannah biked faster. She didn't slow down the hill but pedaled harder. She wiped the sweat from her eyes, breathless. The lead-out noticed her and jumped on his bike. Hannah was close enough now to see the girl putting the chain on the chain ring

Hannah felt energy flowing through her as she followed the lead-out past the girl into the woods. Maybe she could win.

In the middle of a small grassland, Hannah looked back. The girl was coming up behind her at crazy speed.

Hannah reached fork(岔路) in the trail. The lead-out- was nowhere in sight, but on her left was the sign with the orange arrow. When she turned, her foot slipped off the pedal, and she accidentally kicked the sign over

7 . 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

It was my first year of school. I loved school: my old-fashioned kind of teacher, Miss Edna; the way the old wooden floors smelled; and having my own desk that was just my size. There was, however, one problem with school—Mildred.

Daily when I walked the short distance home after school, Mildred would taunt(奚落)me, hit me and scare me. I was absolutely terrified of her. She had failed first grade and was a year older than me. Mildred didn't have friends, so she seemed to concentrate on making enemies. Because I was one of the smallest children in first grade, she had selected me as her number one enemy.

As I walked home after school, she would continually step on the back of the heels of my shoes and cause the shoes to slide down. Then when I stopped to adjust them, she would slap me hard on the back. As soon as the dismissal bell rang each day, my heart started to pound and I blinked fast so I wouldn’t cry.

Pretty soon my mother figured out something was wrong at school and I finally sobbed out the whole story. "You can't do anything, mama. You can't. Everyone will think I'm a baby."

It was impossible for mother to pick me up after school. She had to work. My father had died a few years earlier. I didn't have any sisters or brothers to watch after me. I couldn't imagine what my mother might do. I was certain there was no answer一no answer at all for a problem this big. 1 just begged not to go to school.

The next morning, my mother said, Marion, I'm going to walk up the hill with you today. I believe we'll see Mildred. " Mildred walked from way across town to school. She never bothered me on the way to school, only afterward.

"Oh, mama, please don't do that! It will make her mad. Let me stay home by myself. Please, mama."

"Trust me, Marion. I have a plan."

“The mall? Really, Mom?” 13-year-old Michelle asks her mother as her sister Nicole, three, looks on. “Absolutely.” Patty smiles. “You girls deserve some fun, and I need to get out of the house.” With dialysis (透析) treatments every five hours, Patty rarely ventures (冒险) from her Raymond, New Hampshire, home. She’s also been waiting four years to receive a call—the call that would call her for the double organ transplant (移植) she so desperately needs to live—the call that could come at any time. “There,” Patty smiles. “Let’s go have an adventure!”

Before leaving, Patty phones her firefighter husband Gary. But there’s no answer. Patty and her children arrive at the mall. “Whoa!” Patty laughs, forgetting in the excitement to call Gary.

At 3:05 Gary returns to the fire house. Just as he’s about to phone home to check on Patty, the phone is ringing! “We’ve got a match!” Patty’s doctor says. “But she’s got to Charlotte, North Carolina, by midnight.” Gary’s heart beats fast as he calls home. “Why doesn’t she answer?” Gary dials again and again.

Gary worries at the fire station. He’s booked four tickets on both of the two flights to North Carolina, a 6 pm from nearby Manchester or a 7:25 pm from Boston. Where are you Patty? With still no answer, Gary hangs up and dials the police department. He and his firefighter colleagues phone local stores and malls.

Now as Patty and her daughters go shopping, the mall loudspeakers are making an announcement. But in the crowded mall, Patty doesn’t hear it.

At 5:45 Gary realizes it’s too late to make the Manchester flight. And if he doesn’t find Patty soon, they won’t make the Boston flight either. Patty still hasn’t returned at 6:40. “Come home, Patty!” he begs, looking at the driveway. 7:00. It’s too late! Gary panics. Suddenly, he hears the sound of a car! “Patty!” he cries. Spotting her car pulling into the driveway, he calls the fire department. “Get that helicopter here!” he shouts. “She’s home!”

9 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150左右。

At noon that day, I drove back to my house after the performance. Just as I entered the living room, I heard a gentle sound coming from the bedroom upstairs—it was the sound of my favorite violin.

“Thief!”

I dashed upstairs. Sure enough, as expected, a boy of about 12 years old was petting my violin. The boy had messy hair and a thin face, his oversized coat seemingly filled with something. At first glance, I found a new pair of shoes missing. It seemed that he was surely a thief.

Then, I saw his eyes full of fear and despair. My anger was immediately replaced by a smile, I asked, “Are you Mr. Ram’s nephew, Michael? I’m his housekeeper. Two days ago, I heard his nephew living in the countryside will come. It must be you. You’re really like him!”

On hearing my words, the boy was first astonished, but then quickly said, “Has my uncle gone out? I think I’d better first go out for a walk and visit him again in a while.”

I nodded and asked the boy who was preparing to put down the violin, “Do you like to play the violin so much?”

“Yes, but I’m so poor that I can’t afford it,” the boy replied.

“Then, I give this violin to you.” The boy looked at me questioningly, but he picked up the violin. Going out to the living room, he suddenly saw on the wall my huge color photo I performed in the Sydney Opera House. He involuntarily trembled for a moment and ran out without looking back.

I was sure that the boy had understood what happened because no one would decorate the living room with the housekeeper’s photo.

Paragraph 1:

A few years later, I was invited to be a judge at a music competition of senior high school students.

10 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Sophia frowned as she helped her mother and father set out the cooking supplies in the shiny steel kitchen. Her family had just moved here from San Francisco, having bought a small restaurant, which was set to open in the next few days.

“Moving here was a dumb idea," Sophia grumbled, mostly to herself. The girl had been joyless about the move, but her parents had made the decision and were now too busy getting ready for the grand opening to listen to her complaints.

The first few days at her new school hadn't been easy, either. She found it hard to talk to people she didn't know, and it seemed like the students hadn't even noticed her. Sophia sighed and got back to washing dishes.

On the day of the grand opening,Sophia' s parents were all smiling, welcoming customers into the restaurant, brightly decorated in gold and red. Even Sophia was in a good mood as she rushed around, seating guests, handing out menus, and pouring tall glasses of water. This was a big day for her family.

At one of the tables sat a family with two daughters who were about Sophia' s age. As she filled their glasses,Sophia realized the twins were in her class,Emily and Jenny. Sophia ducked her head down so her long hair covered her face, and she turned away from the table.

Sophia' s mother found her soon after, in the kitchen loading the dishwasher.

“Honey, what are you doing back here? We need you out front with the customers. ”

“Mom, I don't want to be out there. There are kids from school!”

“So?” her mother asked.“That's good! Go take them some fortune cookies and say hello!”She clucked her tongue disapprovingly at Sophia and disappeared out of the kitchen.

Sophia frowned. She grabbed a handful of fortune cookies that they gave out after every meal, but first she tore open a wrapper and cracked a cookie open for herself. She popped a sweet, crunchy piece in her mouth, and absently read the fortune paper it held.

“Many friends are found with a single smile,” it read.
