Description: The UBC Varsity Outdoor Club is a social group that hikes, mountaineers, kayaks (皮划艇), rock climbs and ice climbs. For a refundable deposit, members can borrow equipment from the clubroom's gear cache (器材存放点). The UBC VOC has also constructed a few backcountry (偏僻地区) huts in the Coast Mountains.
Pender Harbor Hiking Group

Description: Now in its fourth year and boasting about 100 members, the Pender Harbour Hiking Group offers a way for members to meet like-minded individuals and get fit. Hikes are scheduled two months in advance, so get on the mailing list or check the website regularly to find a hike that’s right for you! Show up at the designated (指定的) meeting point, and get hiking. Hikes are usually one and a half to two hours long every Monday and Wednesday morning, but some full-day hikes are scheduled, depending on member interest.

Description: Boasting a membership of close to 200 people, the Vernon Outdoors Club is an active group that enjoys hiking and cycling. Every summer, for the last 32 years, the Sierra Storytelling Festival has gathered people together to hear the nation's top tellers share the great range of human experience through artfully told stories. This year's tellers include one Grammy-nominated (格莱美提名的)artist, a local favorite and more.
Grammy-nominated and internationally known storyteller, Diane Ferlatte, fondly remembers her childhood years of sitting on the passage of her grandparents' home in New Orleans, attracted by the oral stories of family generations past. She views storytelling as a traditional art form that can promote literacy, imagination and values in the young. While telling African American stories, she loves to tell stories that hold truths touching upon our common humanity(人性),including personal and historical stories.
As a storyteller and early childhood educator, Muriel Johnson has shared traditional folktales and personal stories with thousands of children and adults across the United States, per-forming at schools, museums, libraries and festivals. Bicycle tour and race
A bike tour and race will be held on August 26 and 27 (Sat & Sun.). At 5:30 am, the riders will leave Tian’anmen Square and ride the first 35 kilometres as a training leg. Then the next 55-kilometre-leg, from Yanjiao to Jixian, will be the first competitive part of the tour. The riders and their bikes will then be takern from Jixian to Changli.
The second racing leg of the tour will be from Changli to the seaside of Nandaihe, covering a distance of 20 kilometres. Saturday night includes the stay at Nandaihe and supper. Sunday morning is free for play at the seaside. At noon all the people and their bikes will be taken back to Beijing.

An attraction of sport programs for the major U. S. media companies is that events are often held on Saturday and Sunday afternoons—the slowest time periods of the week for general television viewing. Sport events are the most popular weekend programs, especially among male viewers who may not watch much television at other times during the week. This means the television networks are able to sell advertising time at relatively high prices during what normally would be dead time for programming.
Media corporations also use sports to attract commercial sponsors that might take their advertising dollars elsewhere if television stations did not report certain sports. The people in the advertising departments of major corporations realize that sports attract made viewers. They also realize that most business travelers are men and that many men make family decisions on the purchases of computers, cars and life insurance.
Golf and tennis are special cases for television programming. These sports attract few viewers, and the ratings(收视率)are unusually low.
