文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要说明了家长们可以鼓励孩子从小打高尔夫球的四个原因。

1 . A Few Top Reasons to Get Your Child Play Golf

One such sport that usually does not come to your mind, but has several benefits in the long run for your child is golf.     1     But, before you take your child to the golf field, make sure you have bought your kids golf set.

Reasons why you must introduce your child to golf are as follows.

Golf is for anyone and everyone. Golf is one such sport that can be played by anyone. It does not matter if your child is short or tall, skinny or a little overweight, slow or fast. Golf is for everyone, irrespective of sizes and shapes. Also, golf can be played at any age.     2

Golf has less risk of injuries. Unlike sports, such as football, baseball, cricket or soccer, golf is a safe game with a minimal to almost negligible risk of injury.     3     Additionally, the golf course is a safe environment for children.

Golf helps create lifelong friends.     4     When learning to play as kids, the children bond over the lessons of golf and later the lessons of life and stick together forever, irrespective of distances. Also, golf tournaments can take your kids to different countries and thus help them learn and appreciate players culturally different from themselves, but united by the game.

5     Just like the ups and downs of golf, life too has its share of ups and downs. When your child learns to handle the high points and low points or rather the bogeys and birdies of the game of golf, he or she is picking up skills and lessons to help face similar situations in life.

And above all, the most important sport lesson that golf provides, is that of having fun and enjoying oneself.

A.Golf can teach a lot about life.
B.He can start if he is 5 or 6 years or onwards.
C.Golf helps develop positive attitude towards life.
D.The friendships established on the golf course usually last forever.
E.There are many practical reasons to motivate your child to play golf.
F.Golf as a sport does not involve any physical contact and thus has no risk of getting serious injuries.
G.Golf is a game in which people hit small hard white balls into holes in the ground, involving skills and patience.

7 . You’ve seen other people flying kites, watching their paper creations float up into the clouds on a windy day.     1     Kite flying isn’t hard, and it’s a lot of fun!

The first step is to get a kite and find a large, open area. Then wait for a nice windy day.     2     Otherwise, kites can get hung up on either of them. Parks with lots of grass and beaches are both great places to try kite flying.

If you have a friend to help you, have one person hold the kite while the other person holds the spool(线轴) of string. The one with the kite should hold it overhead in both hands and throw it lightly up into the wind. If the wind is strong enough, it will catch the kite and lift it up, pulling the string tight. This works well on windy days, but what if the wind isn’t strong enough to catch your kite? Then you need to let out some string and have your friend run with the kite behind him/her.     3

Once the wind catches your kite, start letting out string, little by little.     4     It’s somewhere between fifty and a hundred feet overhead. Spread your legs to keep yourself firmly rooted to the ground, and hold the spool with both hands. If it flies too high, you can reel(卷) in the string a little.

5     When the kite is close to the ground, have someone catch it so it doesn’t get torn or broken. Wind up the rest of your string and keep your kite safe until the next time you’re ready to fly it.

A.As you fly your kite, keep an eye on it.
B.Are you ready to give it a try yourself?
C.To finish flying, reel in the kite slowly.
D.Keep going till your kite is at the height you want.
E.With this added burst of speed, the kite should fly.
F.Your perfect location shouldn’t have any trees or power lines.
G.Keep flying your kite until you feel it’s safe in the wind again.

8 . While most of us are familiar with the fun and excitement of taking a vacation with family or friends, far fewer people have set out on a holiday by themselves. There are plenty of benefits to plan a solo(单独的) travel as your next getaway.     1     We've got a whole list of reasons why you should consider travelling alone.

• You' re in charge of the itinerary(行程)

Did you ever have the unfortunate experience of being dragged to a crowded tourist trap with your family or miss out on a one-of-a-kind destination because none of your friends were interested? That all goes out the window when you're in complete control of the itinerary.     2     Travelling solo provides the perfect opportunity to visit the sequestered(隐蔽的) sites you've had marked on a map for years.

• Plenty of chances to meet new people

When visiting a new place alone, you really have no choice but to communicate with new people.     3     Locals not only have insider information that you won't find in a guidebook, but speaking with someone native to the country is a great way to learn about their culture.

• Expand your comfort zone

4     Between practicing your real-world conversation skills in a foreign language and trying unfamiliar food, travelling alone forces you to face a variety of new situations. When you only have yourself to rely on, you have a real opportunity to learn what you're capable of.

• A chance to stop and reflect

Whether you plan on getting close to nature or just spending an afternoon daydreaming at a sidewalk cafe, travelling alone offers a unique chance to pause and see things from a new view. Add in the experience of a new culture and the chance to interact with people of different backgrounds.     5

A.Not convinced yet?
B.Everyone has unique interests.
C.Step out of your comfort zone and achieve your goal.
D.Gelling outside of your comfortable box is tough at first.
E.Spending time alone in a new place forces you to try new things.
F.And you'll come back from a solo vacation with a new outlook on life.
G.It might seem frightening, but talking to local people has many benefits.

Michael, who now studied in our school, is my good friend. On the morning of last Saturday he asked me spend the weekend together with himself. It was such fine weather that we had decided to hang around in the town. There were lots of people walk here and there. Michael looked interesting in everything he saw. Three hours went by before we both felt hungrily, but all the restaurant were full of guests. To our excitement, we were about to give up while two guests rose and left. We immediately sat down for our lunch and about an hour later we took the taxi home.

10 . When leaving school, I was pleased that my exam results meant that I could study engineering at university. But I also wanted to travel before starting my course. A friend of mine told me about the Schools Exploring Society, an organization which helps students take a gap year (a year between leaving school and going to college). It has three foreign journeys a year, taking 16-20-year-olds on science and nature trips. I love being outdoors, and a mountaineering trip to Alaska was on offer. So I signed up immediately.

There was one problem, though. I had to raise a large amount of money for the trip. It was a big task, but I managed to make it. I washed cars, worked in a cafe and also sold off some of my old books, clothes and CDs. Then, just before starting out, I started worrying. Can I do this? Am I fit enough? What if I see a bear?

Seventy of us traveled to Alaska. The first two days after arrival were spent in a school hall preparing our equipment and five tons of food. Then we left for the beautiful Talkeetna Mountain. On the trip we dug paths and recognized plant species. Then we climbed a mountain that was over 6,000 feet high. It was tiring but exciting.

Looking back, a gap year was so right for me. I learned a lot about accepting other people for what they are. We had to help each other and it made me less selfish. My gap year has also made me more able to concentrate. Now, whenever Tm worried about anything, I think I did Alaska-I can do this!
