1 . Planning on watching a Premier League match, an FA Cup or a fierce English clash (比赛)? Head to one of these football friendly pubs and bars, where you can score wonderful surroundings with a cold beer and some delicious food.

Shadow Ridge Summer Camps Camp memories last forever! We make sure they are unforgettable! Shadow Ridge Summer Camps offer so many exciting things for campers to do. Unlike other camp programs that include horses as a small part of their program, at Shadow Ridge horses are the program! We are 100% horse from stable(马厩) management, nature walks, and track rides to bedroom furnishings. Horses help us achieve many of our aims. Girls can learn to develop responsibility, self-confidence and personal connections in their lives while having fun. Using horses as a wonderful tool for education, our camps offer an interesting place for growth and learning. Imagine each girl having her very own horse to spend time with and a best friend to love and take care of. Each camper is responsible for a horse for the week. Our riding program provides a lot of riding and lesson time. Campers will learn how to take care of the horse and the tack(马具), as well as how to ride. Days are filled with horse-related activities to strengthen the connection between each girl and horse, as the girls learn to work safely around the horses. At Shadow Ridge we try to create a loving, caring family atmosphere for our campers. We have “The Bunkhouse”(4 girls), “the Wranglers Roost”(4 girls), and “The Hideout”(2 girls) in our comfortable 177-year-old farm house. All meals are home cooked, offering delicious and healthy food for the hungry rider. Our excellent activities create personalized memories of your child’s vacation. Each child will receive a camp T-shirt and a photo album (usually 300-500 pictures) of their stay at camp. Our camps are offered during June, July and August 2007, for small groups of girls aged 13-16 years, not only from Canada but also other parts of the world. 6 . How to Teach Your Kids to Enjoy Hiking
Hiking is one of my family's favorite things to do. Ever since my kids were babies, we've been getting out of the house on most weekends to explore and get exercise.
In fact, there is no secret.
I've made a list of the things I think about whenever we head out on a multi-hour hike. This list has expanded over the years, as I've learned what works and what doesn't.
Eat before you leave and carry food and water.
Show them a route map. Kids like knowing where they are in the world, and maps are perfect for helping them understand that. I always take some time before we leave to show them where we are and where we're headed. Point out landmarks they will see. Talk about how long it will take.
Invite another family to join you, especially one whose kids know how to hike, too. Having company will motivate all of the children to push forward.
A.How do we benefit from hiking? |
B.But how can we manage to do it? |
C.And I'd like to share my list with you. |
D.So they don't ask me, " Are we there yet?" |

7 . Recently, I found myself anxious, mostly due to my repetitive schoolwork and staying indoors over the past months. Then spring break came around.
Climbing into my father's favorite pickup truck supplied with sleeping bags, tents and food, my parents and I left for the Morro Bay State Campground.
I took a moment to take in the sound of the nearby ocean waves crashing against the shore, while the salty breeze in the cool air added to the sense of peace. My parents unloaded our equipment from the truck. I began setting up the tents while my parents started a fire in the fire ring.
Dinner, of course, was delicious. Afterwards, my parents enjoyed a walk on the beach as I returned to my tent and quickly fell asleep.
A.I had had much experience outdoors. |
B.We drove north on California's iconic freeway. |
C.Food should be the kinds that would not spoil easily. |

E.I told my parents how a new adventure could be just what I needed. |
F.Our three-day stay at the campground was just what I needed to recharge. |
G.Its yummy smell started to drift through the campground, stimulating our appetite. |
8 . Here are some of the best fall fairs from New England states.
Connecticut: Durham Fair
Dates: September 22-25
The 98th Annual Durham Fair might not be Connecticut’s oldest (that honor goes to the Four Town Fair), but it is the state’s largest. And it has a special focus on kids, making it well worth the two-hour drive from Boston.
The Durham Fair even has a mini-fairground designed especially for children that features activities like a pedal tractor pull and all sorts of games, plus a stage with little animals and magic shows.
Maine: Fryeburg Fair
Dates: October 2-9
The Fryeburg Fair is the farthest away from Boston, but that doesn’t stop people from travelling from all over the country with their kids to experience one of New England’s finest fall fairs. The fair has some unique spins that celebrate what makes Maine special, like Woodsmen’s Field Day with an exciting competition featuring log-rolling, axe-throwing, and tree falling. The fair has all kinds of farm animals, from draft horses to camels.
Massachusetts: Topsfield Fair
Dates: September 30 - October 10
Probably the most well-known fair on the list for Bostonians is the Topsfield Fair, which takes place in our backyard. The origins of this fair go back nearly 200 years ago and it’s truly a classic fall agricultural fair. Topsfield has everything from the rides for children to many farm animals, like pigs, goats, cows, chickens and rabbits.
New Hampshire: Sandwich Fair
Dates: October 8-10
Two hours north of Boston, you will find the Sandwich Fair. Saturday at the fair is Children’s Day, which includes a kid’s pedal tractor pull and Mo the clown. Sunday is Family Day, where you will find a miniature horse demo and the Grand Street Parade. While you are at the fair, hike nearby West Rattlesnake or check out some of the other things to do near Lake Winnipesaukee.

9 . How do we take part in dinner party in foreign countries ? Have you ever experienced it ? I hated dinner parties. But I decided to give them another shot because I'm in London. And my friend Mallery invited me. And because dinner parties in London are very different from those back in New York. There, "I'm having a dinner party" means: " I'm booking a table for 12 at a restaurant you can't afford and we'll be sharing the cheque evenly, no matter what you eat." Worse, in Manhattan, there is always someone who leaves before the bill arrives. They'll throw down cash, half of what they owe, and then people like me, who don't drink, end up paying even more. But if I try to use the same trick, the hostess will shout: "Where are you going?" And it's not like I can say I have somewhere to go: everyone knows I have nowhere to go.
But in London, dinner parties are in people's homes. Not only that, the guests are an interesting mix. The last time I went to one, the guests were from France, India, Denmark and Nigeria; it was like a gathering at the United Nations. In New York, the mix is less striking. It's like a gathering at Bloomingdale's a well-known department store.
For New Yorkers, talking about other parts of the world means Brooklyn and Queens in New York. But at Mallery's, when I said that I had been to Myanmar recently, people knew where it was. In New York, people would think it was a usual new club.
1. What does the word "shot", in Paragraph 1 probably mean?A.Choice. | B.Try. | C.Style. | D.Goal. |
A.There is a strange mix of people. | B.The restaurants are expensive. |
C.The bill is not fairly shared. | D.People have to pay cash. |
A.Easy-going. | B.Self-centred. | C.Generous. | D.Conservative |
10 . Many years ago I went on vacation for a week in Mexico. Arriving at the resort, I decided to try every activity it offered at least once, no matter what it was.
It was a really enjoyable vacation, but one thing really surprised me.
I want to relate this to life because we're here to get the most enjoyment out of life. When we do, life can truly be an adventure to enjoy.
Think of life in this way: Life is like a week's vacation at a resort. And there are thousands of things we can try, metaphorically (隐喻地) living on Earth.
A.There're some things people are rather good at, but others that they're not. |
B.Many people participated in only one or two activities in the whole vacation. |
C.However, that isn't true for many people. |
D.Life is an awkward experience to everyone. |
E.The disapproval of others can have a lot of power over us. |
F.Life really is a beautiful adventure if we are willing to try new things. |
G.We never allow ourselves to be seen as not skilled at the things we do. |
