War and Peace follows the lives of the members of several noble families during the Napoleonic Wars — the Kuragins, Bolkonskys, Drubetskoys, Rostovs, and Bezukhovs, and assesses how this war affects these families. The setting of the story begins in St. Petersburg, Russia in 1805, from where it later moves to Moscow, a year later, in 1806.

It begins with the celebration of Pierre Bezukhov. When his father dies, he never       1     to fight hard for his inheritance (遗产), which he finally gets. The rest of that section gives an account of the battles that took place in Austria when Russia is fighting with France. More characters like Natasha, Boris, Nikolai, and Sonya are introduced at this point.

In volume (卷) 2, no war is going on. This is because of the       2     truce (停战) that was made. The focus of the volume is on how the families intend to make a(n)     3     from the period of war.

In volume 3, the truce is over and the two countries (Russia and France) are involved in war again. Moscow is     4     attacked by France. This is a period of great tension. Pierre wants to participate in the war but is unable to due to his lack of experience.

In volume 4, the war is continuing. More deaths result from the war. This is the chapter where most deaths are recorded. Pierre is    5     and imprisoned. After he is saved, he gets married and lives with his family peacefully.

We all have books that we love, perhaps even series of books that have captured our hearts and minds over many years. When we hear that they might be adapted into films, some people feel excited while others are unhappy. Often people are     1     about the chances that their favourite characters and stories will be shown on screen. The problem arises when the readers     2     its world so clearly. In their mind there are only certain actors that are     3     and the setting must be as perfect as they imagined.
