文章大意:这是一篇说明文。介绍了印度“巡回影院”的近况。

3 . India’s touring (流动的) cinemas are dying, and being reborn. And India is perhaps the most film-mad country in the world while it also has the lowest ratios of screens to human beings.     1     The screens that do exist are unevenly distributed. PVR, India’s biggest cinema operator, has more screens in Chandigarh, a prosperous city of about a million people, than it does in Rajasthan, a poor stale of 80 million. If Muhammad could not go to the movies, the movies had to come to Muhammad. Twenty years ago, there were 1,400 odd touring cinemas in Pusegaon.     2     However, today there are only 52 travelling cinemas.

3     One is smartphone and internet expansion, which leads to the other reason for the collapse of the touring cinemas:     4     Sushil Chaudhary, the founder of a new chain of touring cinemas called Picture Time, is making a different bet on the possibilities of cinema. Mr. Chaudhary started his company in 2015 and has since set up 37 moving screens seating between 100 and 250 people. The touring cinema was nothing like the one in Pusegaon.     5     The picture was crystal clear and the sound used Dolby. Picture Time’s tickets are cheap, at between 30 and 70 rupees, compared with an average ticket price of 191 rupees at PVR’s cinemas.

A.they failed to change over time.
B.Fewer people can afford to go to cinemas.
C.The floor was carpeted and there were plastic chairs.
D.The following are the reasons leading to this phenomenon.
E.It was in this world that the touring cinemas played a crucial role.
F.The collapse of the touring cinemas was for two interlinked reasons.
G.It is one more paradox (悖论) among the millions of contradictions there.

4 . Adaptations are the currency of the movie industry. It’s common to see that the latest hit movie or thrilling drama is inspired by a novel, video game, or perhaps even a comic book. The journey of the page being adapted to the screen has been covered a lot. But little is the process spoken about in reverse.

The most well-known version of a film making its way into the publishing industry is through the classic novelization. Movie novelizations went through a popular period before the Internet existed. Fans wanted to keep learning more about the fictional worlds they had stepped. into and needed to experience the story again in a new way. They couldn’t simply google it, nor could they immediately get the production on tape. Therefore, the novelization was a great solution.
Novelizations were usually written by authors who were not in the movie-making process. Instead, they would receive the most complete version of the screenplay to hand and would begin to write their adaptation based on that document. Although changes could be made, there were times where a novelization didn’t actually reflect what happened on the screen because scenes could be cut or replaced and the novelizations were left outdated. But there’s also an advantage. The novelizations were a small piece of movie-making history in their own right. Massive films like Star Wars, ET, Back To The Future, and Alien all received their own page adaptation. It was a completely unique experience before the films were even available to watch. For a time, they were everything for cinema lovers.
Regardless of the influences on the tales, movie adaptations provide a creative outlet for new concepts to be developed. That’s a wonderful idea. which should be encouraged for those movies that never got a chance to continue on their path.
1. What does the underlined phrase “in reverse” in paragraph 1 mean?
A.Equally.B.Oppositely.C.Similarly.D.Completely.
2. Why were movie novelizations popular before the Internet existed?
A.They took the place of productions on tape.
B.They were adapted from up-to-date novels.
C.They satisfied fans’ curiosity in a different way.
D.They created a fictional world for people to first step in.
3. What is probably the disadvantage of a novelization?
A.Its choosing the wrong story.
B.Its missing the point of the screenplay.
C.Its cutting and replacing movie scenes.
D.Its failing to match the original movie.
4. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A.Novel-based Movies.B.Fast-developing Industries.
C.Film-to-book Adaptations.D.Well-known novelizations.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。为什么电影的时长变得越来越长,文章分析了出现这种现象的原因。

7 . Want to know what is coming soon to a cinema near you? Probably not a 1.5-hour-long movie, as in the old days. On October 20th comes Killers of the Flower Moon. At nearly three and a half hours, its length is nearly double that of the average film last year. Even movie fans struggle to concentrate for that long and some viewers even nod off. Afterwards there is a mad dash for the toilets. When does watching a film become such a slog?

The Economist analyzed over 100,000 feature films released internationally since the 1930s, the start of Hollywood’s golden age, using data from IMDb, a movie database. The average length of productions rose by around 24%, from one hour and 21 minutes in the 1930s to one hour and 47 minutes in 2022. For the ten most-popular titles, the average length grew to around two and a half hours in 2022, nearly 50% higher than in the 1930s.

One driver of this trend is that studios want to squeeze the most out of their costly intellectual property (知识产权), but they are competing with streaming platforms for eyeballs. The hope is that a spectacular, drawn-out “event” movie will draw audiences away from the small screen and into cinemas. This approach has often paid off: Avengers: Endgame Marvel’s three-hour superhero masterpieces, was the highest-grossing (票房最高的) film in 2019. Last year long movies series made up most of the highest-grossing films in America.

Another explanation for longer films has to do with directors’ growing influence. Who would dare tell the likes of Mr. Nolan to cut out his masterpieces? Moreover, streaming platforms, which do not have to worry as much about the length because viewers can pause whenever they like, may attract big names by promising them sufficient fund and creative freedom. Netflix funded and released three-hour The Irishman in 2019, a film that would have benefited from a decisive editor, Irish or otherwise.

1. The underlined part “a slog” in paragraph 1 refers to a(n)___.
A.pleasureB.effortC.conflictD.feast
2. What can be inferred from paragraph 2?
A.The average length affects the popularity of films.
B.Great advances have been made in film industry.
C.Hollywood starts a golden age of feature films.
D.The average duration of movies has stretched.
3. What sets the trend of longer movies?
A.Competition for the target audience.B.Thirst for more classic productions.
C.Influence of streaming platforms.D.Preference for decisive editors.
4. What is probably the best title for the passage?
A.Movie EnthusiastsB.Movie Marathons
C.Movie ProductionD.Movie Influence

文章大意:本文是一篇应用文。主要介绍了四部代表秋季的电影。

8 . Below, find four of the very best fall movies - which are not necessarily movies set in the fall, but which represent fall in some way - to get you through to December.

When Harry Met Sally...(1989)

When I think of fall, I automatically picture Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal walking through a leaf-strewn Central Park and talk about Sally’s ultimate sexual fantasy. The film cycles through various seasons, but it feels brightest and most alive in fall, making it the perfect thing to get you through a frustrating November afternoon.

Autumn in New York (2000)

I mean... how could I not include this one? Title aside, this Winona Ryder features many of the things I most as sociate with fall, including Central Park, small museums, and a woman dressed up as Emily Dickinson. We love to see it and cry at it.

The Royal Tenenhaums (2001)

There’s simply no film character who represents the concept of autumn quite like Margot Tenenbaum. Her seasonally appropriate clipped hair, charming eyes, and wardrobe of primarily browns all but scream out the reason for the season; and while signature fur coat might seem more winter near, her fondness for pairing it with Lacoste polo dresses is fall all the way. In what other season can you wear a coat with a dress, logically speaking?

Mona Lisa Smile (2003)

I’m actually an enthusiastic advocate of watching this Julia Roberts/Julia Stiles/Kirsten Dunst trifecta (三强联袂) in any season, but watching it in fall will make you desire a well-knitted sweater and a thermos of tea to take along with you while you cheer for the boys at the Harvard-Yale game.

1. In what film does a lady dress herself as Emily Dickinson?
A.When Harry Met SallyB.Autumn in New York
C.The Royal TenenhaumsD.Mona Lisa Smile
2. What is demonstrated through Margot Tenenbaum’s appearance and dresses?
A.Her way of love.B.Her taste in makeup.
C.Something relevant to fall.D.Something concerning clothes.
3. What do the four movies have in common?
A.All are set in December.B.All reflect fall to some extent.
C.All of them were shot before 2000.D.All display the beauty of different seasons.
