3 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

No one is born a winner. People make themselves into winners by their own efforts. I learned this lesson from an experience many years ago. I took the head coaching job at a school in Baxley, Georgia. It was a small school with a weak football program. The school took part in the league matches every year. However, it never ended well. We were more of the audience, watching and cheering instead of sweating out in the fields.

Fortunately, the school held the tradition that the school’s old team was to play against the new team at the end of spring practice. For lack of resources, the old team bad no coach, and they didn’t even practice to prepare for the game.

I was assigned (指派) as the coach of the new team, which was why I was excited. I believed that we were going to win, but to my disappointment, we were defeated. I couldn’t believe I had got into such a situation. Thinking hard about it, I tried to figure out the reason and what I should do next.

It didn’t take long before I came to realize that my team was depending on me. Without proper guidance or previous experience, my team was at a loss what to do. I had to change my attitude so that I could bring out the best in them about their ability and potential.

I would let my action do the talking. First, I started doing anything I could to help them build a little pride. I could see their spirits lifted, with their head held high in great confidence. Most importantly, I began to treat them like winners. Only when they regarded themselves as winners could they willingly invest time and energy.

This summer, the other teams enjoyed their vacations.

文章大意:这是一篇新闻报道。文章主要介绍了2022年卡塔尔世界杯的基本情况。

5 . The FiFA World cup is upon us in Qatar and excitement is truly kicking in. It’s the world’s biggest international soccer tournament and also the most-watched sporting event in the world. There are 32 teams competing to win. This year’s tournament looks to be particularly unique. What makes it different from the ones before?

For starters, it’s the first time the tournament has been held in the Middle East after Qatar beat other host competitors- the US, South Korea, Japan and Australia back in 2010. It’s also the first time in history the tournament is happening during the Northern Hemisphere winter months, from Nov 20 to Dec 18.

That’s because Qatar is a desert country, and in summer the temperature can be as high as 42℃. That’s way too hot to play outdoor sports. But it will still be pretty warm in winter. The temperature in the stadium is expected to be around 20℃ to 30℃. Air conditioning will help to keep it cooler.

Qatar is also the smallest nation by area to host the cup. They’ll be playing the first match of the tournament facing Ecuador. It’s Qatar’s first-ever FIFA World Cup game. This makes them the first country to host their debut(首秀) game since Italy in 1934!

There may be new challenges for many players too. Apart from the hot weather, for European teams like England, France, Germany and Spain, it’s only just over a year since their last big international tournament, the UEFA Champions League.

According to FIFA’s rankings, the favorites to win the tournament this year are Brazil, followed by Argentina and France.

1. How long does the 2022 FIFA World Cup last?
A.Half a month.B.A week.C.Twenty Days.D.About a month.
2. why is Qatar unique in holding the FIFA World Cup?
a. It’s the first country to build a stadium in a desert.
b. It’s the first country in northern Hemisphere to hold the game in winter.
c. It’s the first country in the Middle East to hold the tournament.
d. It’s the smallest nation by area to host the cup.
e. It’s the first ever host country to play the first game of the cup.
A.abcB.aceC.bcdD.cde
3. What do we know from Paragraph 5?
A.Hot weather won’t influence players in the game.
B.Qatar is facing the challenge of dealing with hot weather.
C.European teams haven’t had a proper game for a long time.
D.European teams have not had long to recover from their last big tournament.
4. What is the last paragraph about?
A.Qatari people’s opinions toward the game.
B.The author’s guess of who will win the tournament.
C.Which countries are favored to win the cup.
D.What people’s expectations of Qatar are.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章介绍了体育精神在于帮助年轻运动员享受竞争精神,处理逆境,并给年轻运动员培养体育精神提出建议,为他们未来的生活做好准备。

7 . Sportsmanship isn’t just about shaking hands after the game. It’s about helping young athletes enjoy the spirit of competition, deal with adversity.     1

Character is a word that gets used often, but its true meaning may be hard to explain to a young mind.     2     By raising standards early, an athlete can both give and expect mutual respect during their course of competition.

One way to teach the idea of sportsmanship is to let the athlete know that they should do their personal best and to treat teammates and opponents in the same fashion they wish to be treated.     3     It also helps them off the field as well.

It’s important to the young athlete to understand that for as many victories as they hope to have, they must face losing if they’re going to play their sport. An effective method is to have a young athlete pick out well-known popular athletes, particularly in their sport or sports of interest, and look up their statistics.     4

5     Practice and skill building should be offset by times of goofing off (偷懒), perhaps practicing with crazy costumes or with fun music, and not coaching in the traditional sense. This one little thing can do wonders in reminding the athlete not to take anything too seriously and to have fun doing what they have chosen to participate in.

A.Sports are designed to be enjoyable.
B.Having sports is a course of sweat and tears.
C.Sport is a matter of failure and success to some degree.
D.It’s ultimately a choice to hold oneself to a higher standard.
E.This age-old idea will help them become a respected competitor.
F.Here are tips to young players’ sportsmanship and prepare them for their future life.
G.Knowing professional athletes have faced defeat can teach the young competitor to face loss graciously.
