“She’s finding solutions on her own,” the parents told each other. “We need to follow her lead.” And so the idea of a yearlong trip was born, one that would show the kids the world, in person and at close range – while the kids could still see it. For the next two years, the parents saved money and researched places to visit. “How we adults see the world and how kids see the world are so different.” says the mother, Edith. “It would have to be less about temples and museums and more about whatever caught their eyes.”
By the time the trip began to wind down in early 2023, the family had traveled 52,000 miles and visited 18 countries. Mia grew taller and when entering adolescence, needed more independence. Her brothers became more confident and outgoing. The kids were very aware that they had learned a lot. “There’s a lot of suffering, a lot of poverty, but lots of good and interesting things too. Class 4A will soon be leaving for this year's trip to Salzburg, Austria. We will depart from the campus at 6 a. m. on January 18th to catch the 9 a. m. flight. Our tour begins with a scooter(小型摩托车) tour around the island. In the late afternoon, it’s time to head to the beach for a wonderful snorkeling adventure. Finally, we’ll close out the first day by taking in an Orchid Island sunset over the Qingqing Grassland. The following morning, you’ll witness an unforgettable sunrise at Dongqing Bay. Later, you’ll travel around the island on your scooter and observe traditional Tao fishing boats. You’ll even have the option of rowing out to sea on one of these boats for a small additional expense.
The three-day tour costs an additional $200, but it’s well worth the extra expense. It includes a historical tour of traditional underground houses and a visit to the well-known Lover’s Cave.

10 . Traveling to a farm and spending several hours a day getting your hands dirty might sound like an unusual way to spend a vacation.
WWOOF, or “Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms”, is an organization that helps travelers go on “volunteering vacations” on organic farms. The idea is simple: travelers volunteer on farms for around four to six hours a day in exchange for free accommodation and meals. The duration(时长) of “vacation” could be a few days or a few weeks.
Volunteers may be given different tasks, based on the type of farm they’re on. These may include things like gardening, cutting wood, feeding animals, or even making cheese or wine.

So, she thought it might be a good idea to stay and work on a farm. And since she worried that she would be lonely, she asked others to join her. After a successful trial weekend at a farm in Sussex, England, with 15 volunteers, more people started showing interest in working on farms, and more organic farmers said they were willing to host workers.
Today, it’s possible to go WWOOFing in more than 130 countries, according to the website. You don’t need any farming experience—just a positive attitude and a willingness to learn!
