1 . We fill our water bottle with cool water from a stream and watch as puffy clouds slowly push shadows over the green hills. At the country' s first camping site, Glamping Georgia, in Ambrolauri, six white tents are set on a hill, overlooking a valley and slopes of dense pine forest. There’s a bathroom inside the air-conditioned tents, and a mini kitchen outside, a private deck with wicker rocking chairs. Linden, oak and apple trees surround the tents. The clean, fresh air is rich with birdsong and insects zip back and forth. The only other sound is the Krikhula River. It's the perfect place to disconnect. A layer of stars opens up overhead and Giorgi, the owner, drops by to give us a bottle of his homemade grape.

We spend the final days of our trip in central Georgia, at Borjomi, a summer retreat for the Romanovs, famous for its mineral waters and sulphur(硫磺)baths. Covering 210,000 acres, the Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park has one of the largest areas of old-growth forest in Europe, and many wildlife habitats. There are 12 marked tracks for hiking, riding and snowshoeing, as well as . tourist shelters and camping areas.

We hike the Nikoloz Romanov Trail from Likani to Lomis mountain where a river valley leads up through forest to alpine meadows(高山草甸) of tall grasses and wild flowers. We pass only a handful of other hikers. I know that the reward at 7,200ft will be the views. What I don't expect to find at the top are free -ranging horses with shiny brown coats, a tiny decorative church and carpets of wild flowers.

This is what we came for—undamaged nature and slow travel. It's a few hours’ hike back down, but all I want to do is lie down among the flowers, close my eyes and just breathe.

The Great Windy Road, Victoria, Australia

The Karakoram Highway, China-Pakistan

The Karakoram Highway is the highest international road in the world, reaching an altitude of 4,700 meters at the Khunjerab Pass. Starting in Kashgar, China, cyclists can travel up to 1,200 kilometers on mostly unpaved roads, but the views are as breathtaking as the riding.

Route of the Hiawatha, Idaho-Montana, United States

Take your family out to Montana this summer and cycle along the most scenic disused railroad in the country. The railroad turned bike trail turns into 24 kilometers of leisure biking that takes you over seven trestles(高架桥) and through 10 tunnels, with the longest one, the Taft Tunnel, stretching for 2.7 kilometers.

4 . Earlier this summer, after packing my rucksack for a wild-camping holiday, I gazed at my belongings, and made a final adjustment to the contents of my bag.    1

I quickly emailed my travel companion, a photographer friend called Jacob to make sure I could have some pictures of our trip afterwards, so I could pop a few up on Instagram when I returned. And then I set off, feeling — for the first time in a number of trips — that I was genuinely escaping the stresses and strains of my everyday life.    2    Because the way stress locates us, these days, is via our phones.

3    However, I've realized that for a holiday really to function as a holiday, I need an escape from social status anxiety , from caring about “likes”, and from having to photograph every tiny detail of life to prove our existence. When we overshare a glossy version of our trip online, we miss out on talking about our trips when we return, which is part of the joy of travel. Posting in the moment denies us this opportunity to relive (回味) our experience, and prolong that holiday feeling.    4

During my three-day Insta-break, my stress levels decrease quickly within 24 hours.    5    I made mental notes of funny moments, cultural observations, tips and when I returned, I had interesting, detailed chats with friends about my time away.

A.I also changed how I processed the trip itself.
B.So I am fully supportive of screen-free holidays.
C.I took out my iPhone, and threw it under my bed.
D.1 would lose track of my coworkers, my friends and my family.
E.None of them could touch me for the next three glorious days.
F.So this summer, as you plan your trip, ask if you can delete Instagram.
G.As a travel writer, abandoning my phone for my holiday felt like the extreme betrayal.

5 . Los Angeles is always a popular holiday destination. To fully enjoy your travel there, you should know its food, weather, and also traffic. While driving in L. A. is similar to that in other areas, there are a few specific rules to note.

HOV lanes (车道)

On many L. A. freeways, one or more lanes at the far left are used as high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes. They usually have limited access and you can only enter or exit where there is a break in the double yellow line. Most HOV lanes require a minimum of two people in the car; some require three. Vehicles towing trailers (拖车) are NOT allowed in the HOV lane, regardless of how many people are in them.

Toll (收费) lanes

On certain freeways, the HOV lanes are double-purposed as toll lanes for people driving alone who have a FasTrak, an electronic toll collection system. Therefore, you also have to have one in that lane as a HOV, which is inconvenient if you’re just visiting. FasTrak is in effect on parts of the 110 freeway between the 405 and 10 freeways, and on parts of the 10 freeway east of Downtown L. A.

Cell phones

It is against the law to talk on a cell phone while driving without using a hands-free device. Holding a cell phone to your ear while driving will land you with a ticket.

Alcohol

Driving under the influence is taken seriously in L.A. The legal blood alcohol limit is 0.08%, but you can be charged with lower levels if they show you can’t function normally. Placing an opened bottle of alcohol in the passenger area while driving (or sitting) is illegal. Any opened container of alcohol has to be transported in the trunk.

1. What do you know about HOV lanes?
A.They encourage people to share cars.
B.They are on the far right of freeways.
C.They are intended for larger vehicles.
D.They allow cars to enter over the double yellow line.
2. Which is surely against the road rules in L. A.?
A.Driving on the 110 freeway with a FasTrak.
B.Putting the cell phone in the car while driving.
C.Riding with an opened bottle of alcohol in back seats.
D.Going below the blood alcohol limit of 0. 08%.
3. Where is the text most probably taken from?
A.A traffic law.B.A road map.
C.A guidebook.D.A report.

6 . I was privileged to be on vacation for the last two weeks with my husband and two of our children. We stayed in two different hotels and had two very different experiences.

In the first hotel, the staff went about their duties in a perfunctory (敷衍的) fashion; they did exactly what they had to, no more and no less. They weren’t rude but neither were they friendly. When asked about good walking trails (小路) in the area, they immediately said they didn’t know. Yet it turned out that following the main road from the hotel’s front driveway took us straight onto a very popular and beautiful trail!

Our second experience could not have been more different. The staff not only offered advice about best sites, best means of transportation and even where to get gas, but behaved very friendly as well. We were greeted like long-lost friends when we walked back in at the end of a long day. I felt the obvious difference that concern could make, especially when we were away from home in unfamiliar surroundings. The first made us feel alienated, the second comfortable.

We can be like the staff in the first hotel—doing what’s necessary to get by, doing things without sincerity and fulfilling our responsibilities. We’ll still get rewarded but we will be missing goodness. If we can be like the staff in the second hotel, we will get the pleasure of performing kindness, and that joy will deepen our relationship with the others who recognize our genuine care and concern. Putting in the effort of doing our best, we get a much greater experience in this world.

It was a wonderful vacation. Each location offered different opportunities for appreciating the beauty of nature. We enjoyed the lakes, mountains and historic cities. But we learned something beyond dates, facts and figures. We witnessed first-hand the difference between doing the bare minimum and investing your all in everything you do. It helped shape our perspective and our actions for the upcoming year.

1. What can we learn from the second paragraph?
A.We found a fantastic trail without effort.
B.We finally found trails with the staff’s help.
C.Communication with the staff was difficult.
D.The staff offered to help us without hesitation.
2. Which of the following can replace the underlined word “alienated” in Paragraph 3?
A.boredB.nervous
C.unfriendlyD.embarrassed
3. What does the author advise us to do?
A.Spare no effort to do our part.
B.Figure out our responsibilities.
C.Do what’s necessary to get by.
D.Communicate with others to get joy.
