文章大意:本文是新闻报道。近期,世界各地各种自然灾害频频发生,比如河南的洪涝灾害,美国的酷热天气等等,给人们的生命、财产造成了巨大的损失。这是为什么呢,是纯粹的自然灾害吗?

2 . Heatwaves in the U. S. and floods in western Europe have dominated the news cycle recently, forcing us to re-examine the relationship between climate change and extreme weather. Other catastrophes are going unnoticed.

In the past week, 380,000 people have been evacuated due to floods in China’s Henan province,30 villages in Uganda were affected as rivers overflowed and 25 people died in landslides after Mumbai was hit by big storms. Temperatures in Turkey and North Africa approached 50 °C, while South Africa and Brazil froze. Siberia is battling wildfires again. Finland experienced 31 continued days with maximum temperatures above 25 °C, the longest heatwave ever recorded in the country. In Iran, the hottest summer in decades has led to water shortages that in turn caused protests in the country’s southwest.

All these disasters are part of a series of extreme weather events that paint a picture of a world that’s already warmed 1.2 C from pre-industrial times. There’s no doubt that it will get warmer.

The global climate is out of balance, German meteorologist Johannes Quaas said in an interview last week. Our climate’s reaction to greenhouse gas emissions isn’t immediate. The warming and resulting weather events that we see today are a reaction to emissions that entered the atmosphere decades ago.

Scientists estimate that, even if we meet global emissions reduction goals, the planet will continue to warm after that. That will take the planet to somewhere between 1. 5 °C to 2 C above pre-industrial times by the end of the century. While their warming predictions have been correct in the past, there’s no way to be absolutely sure when temperatures will stop rising, because the experiment we’re running on the planet has never been attempted before.

Death, violence and destruction are all signs of humanity’s struggle to adapt to a changing climate. ”lt seems like there’s something in human nature that makes us be behind the events, and not ahead,”said Hans-Otto Portner, an adviser to the German government on climate and the environment. “ Maybe that’s because the nature of unprecedented events is that we can ‘t imagine what’s coming. ”

4 . Tips for Green Travel with Kids

Traveling doesn’t mean letting go of all the eco-friendly choices we work so hard to achieve in our daily life. Here are a few tips for green travel with kids:

Booking nonstop flights whenever possible will reduce carbon emissions (碳排放). If the closest local airport doesn’t have nonstop flights to a certain place, check in with other local airports to see if nonstop flights are available.    1

Whether you’re flying or driving, it’s easy when traveling to pull into fast food restaurants for snacks.    2    My kids love to help plan snacks. I let them create their own snacks for the trip at home.

Reusable water bottles are easy to bring along whenever you travel. At the airport, keep your reusable bottles empty until you have passed through the security (安检).    3    Single-use plastic water bottles create unnecessary waste and the plastic can be harmful to your health.

4    Open a few windows and turn off the air conditioner. You should also help your children keep their good, green habits from home to place while traveling. Sometimes vacation can mean more than one shower each day — once in the morning and again after getting out of the pool. Pay attention to the number of showers and the length of showers.    5

A.Too much carbon emissions seriously pollute the environment.
B.But you can pack healthy food before starting off.
C.In this way, you can save water and energy.
D.Fill them up on the other side of the security checkpoint.
E.Security check is a necessary part of each trip.
F.Save energy by turning off the hotel room lights when you head out for the day.
G.You might have to drive a bit further, but saving on carbon emissions makes it worthwhile.

5 . Life today is much easier than it was hundreds of years ago, but it has brought new problems. One of the biggest is pollution. Pollution comes in many ways. We see it, smell it, drink it and even hear it.

Men have been polluting the earth. Many years ago, the pollution was not so serious because there were not so many people. When the land was used up or the river was dirty in one place, men moved to another place.

Air pollution is now the most serious. Air makes people sick. And lots of people now are trying to use something to clear the air. Water pollution kills our fish and pollutes our drinking water. Noise pollution makes us become angry more easily.

Many countries are making rules to fight air pollution. They stop people from burning coal in houses and factories in the city, and from putting dirty smoke into the air.

Pollution by SO2 is now the most dangerous kind of air pollution. It is caused by heavy traffic. It is true that if there are fewer people driving, there will be less air pollution.

Although most of the pollution is caused by us, we are the ones who can change the situation. The earth is our home. We must take care of it. And we must pay more attention to the information in pollution at the same time.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章说明了加拿大总理Justin Trudeau宣布了到2050年在加拿大实现净零排放的计划,文章还介绍了《巴黎气候协议》的相关规定和要求。

7 . Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his plans for achieving net-zero emissions (排放) in Canada by 2050. His party subscribed a bill that would require the government to create new targets and a plan on how it will achieve those targets, every five years between 2030-2050. It would also have to regularly report on its progress towards those goals.

Canada is one of nearly 200 countries that has signed onto the Paris climate agreement. Signatories promise to achieve net-zero emissions beginning at some point between 2050 and 2100. Net-zero means that all emissions produced are absorbed through plants and trees or buried through carbon-capture technology.

Countries must also report on their progress every five years under the agreement. Mr. Trudeau’s bill, which was subscribed on Thursday, formalizes this reporting requirement and forces the government to set regular goals. Greenhouse gases have hit record lows because of the pandemic-induced (大流行病引起的) economic slowdown. US emissions dropped by 9.2% this year.

The bill does not provide any kind of enforcement mechanism (机制) or attach any additional spending to achieve its goals. The bill also does not detail how the country will meet its five-year targets. It simply says the government will be required to come up with a plan.

“Canada is a wonderful country, but it didn’t happen by accident and won’t continued without effort, ”Mr. Trudeau said. He made climate action a goal during his 2019 election cam paign.

Canada has failed to meet its environmental targets in the past. Under the Paris Agreement, Canada is supposed to reduce its emissions by 30%by 2030. The country will miss its 2020 target and is on track to miss its 2025 target.

1. What does “net-zero” mean in Paragraph 1?
A.Any emission is not allowed.B.All emissions must be cleaned first.
C.All emissions must go though net.D.All emissions are absorbed or buried.
2. What are countries also required to do under the Paris climate agreement?
A.Pass laws to cut emissions.B.Report progress every five years.
C.Make targets every five years.D.Find new ways, to reduce pollution.
3. Why have greenhouse gases hit record lows?
A.Countries all met their targets.B.More advanced techniques were used.
C.Economy around the world slowed down.D.People cared more about protecting the environment.
4. What can we learn about Canada from the last paragraph?
A.It will reduce its emissions by 30%.
B.It sets too high environmental targets.
C.It may not meet its environmental targets in the following years.
D.It doesn’t try to achieve its environmental targets.

9 . I don’t think I can recall a time when I wasn’t aware of the beauty of the ocean. Growing up in Australia, I had the good fortune of having the sea at my side. The first time I went to Halfmoon Bay, I suddenly had the feeling of not being able to feel the ground with my feet anymore.

For my 10th birthday, my sister and I were taken out to the Great Barrier Reef. There were fish in different colors, caves and layers of coral. They made such an impression on me. When I learned that only 1 percent of Australian’s Coral Sea was protected, I was shocked. Australian marine life is particularly important because the reefs have more marine species than any other country on earth. But sadly, only 45 percent of the world’s reefs are considered healthy.

This statistic is depressing, so it’s important for us to do everything to protect them. The hope that the Coral Sea remains a complete eco-system has led me to take action. I’ve become involved with the Protect Our Coral Sea activity, which aims to create the largest marine park in the world. It would serve as a place where the ocean’ s species will all have a safe place forever.

Together, Angus and I created a little video and we hope it will inspire people to be a part of the movement. Angus also shares many beautiful childhood memories of the ocean as a young boy, who grew up sailing, admiring the beauty of the ocean, and trying to find the secrets of ocean species.

1. From the underlined sentence in Para.1, we can learn the author ________.
A.seldom went surfing at the sea
B.forgot his experiences about the ocean
C.never went back to his hometown
D.had a wonderful impression of Halfmoon Bay
2. According to the second paragraph, Australian marine life ________.
A.is escaping from the Coral Sea gradually
B.depends on reefs for living greatly
C.may be faced with danger
D.is protected better than that in other oceans
3. The Protect Our Coral Sea activity is intended to ________.
A.contribute to a complete eco-system
B.prevent more marine species being endangered
C.set up a large nature reserve for reefs
D.raise more teenagers’ environmental awareness
4. Angus and the author created a little video to ________.
A.urge more people to take action to protect the marine species
B.inspire more people to explore the secret of the ocean
C.share their childhood experiences about the ocean
D.bring back to people their memories of ocean species

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。短文介绍了一个名为SWG3的场馆已经启动了一个系统,利用跳舞产生的热量作为能源。人们跳得越有活力,他们产生的热量就越多。随之介绍了“体热”项目的优势和前景。

10 . Visitors to an arts Venue (场馆) in Glasgow, Scotland, now have the perfect reason to keep dancing as hard as they can-they’re creating renewable energy.

The venue, which is called SWG3, has launched a system that uses the heat produced by dancing as a source of energy. The more energetically people dance, the more heat they create. Devices on the ceiling take in heat from inside the club and transport it through pipes using a special type of liquid. The heat energy travels through 12 holes into the ground to be stored 200 meters below. The heat energy can be kept in the bedrock (solid rock below the ground) like a thermal battery (a battery that stores energy as heat) until it is needed. Another system then moves the heat to areas that need warming.

The project, which is called Body heat, was officially setup on 6 October, but it was tested during the COP26 conference in Glasgow in November 2021. At the event, world leaders discussed how to settle climate change. The system stored the heat from visitors and used it to power lights and heating. Now, the owners of SWG3 say they’ll be able to switch off their gas boilers and use Body heat to supply all their heating. This would add up to big savings in the amount of CO2 they produce. The hope is that by 2025, SWG3 will not be releasing any CO2 into the atmosphere. This is called net-zero carbon emissions.

Dr Jon Gluyas, from Durham University, told the BBC that the Body heat project was a “really good move”. He said it could help with the energy crisis in the UK by producing more energy here instead of having to rely on buying energy from other countries. Angus Millar, from Glasgow City Council, said, “People really are making Glasgow greener—while having a great time.

1. Where is heat energy preserved before being used?
A.In pipes.B.In 12 holes.C.In the bed rock.D.In a battery.
2. What will Body heat contribute to?
A.Money saving.B.Popularity of SWG3.
C.Energetic dance.D.CO2 emission reduction.
3. What can be inferred from the last two paragraphs?
A.World leaders are promoting Body heat.
B.Body heat is promising in fixing energy issues.
C.Body heat will supply all the heating for Glasgow.
D.The UK will no longer buy energy from abroad.
4. What does the underlined part in the last paragraph mean?
A.Enjoying dancing.B.Joining in a good move.
C.Creating energy.D.Easing energy crisis.
