3 . 阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。

Teens are shopping like their parents during the back-to-school season. That is putting a lot of stress on retailers (零售商). They must change the way they market to them. Gone are the spending craziness that starts weeks before school bells ring. More teens are careful about spending money. It is a habit picked up from their downturn (经济低迷)-troubled parents.

Today’s kids recycle more clothes from the last school year. Kids mix and match the old with the new. They get different looks. They also shop year-round for things they need. It means they are spending less money this time of year. They are less likely to get anything that is not on sale when they do buy. And the number of kids who will reuse last year’s items rose to 39 percent. That goes up from 26 percent between 2011 and 2018. Families with school-age kids will most likely spend an average of $630.36 this year. It is down 6 percent from last year. The results have shown drops for four out of the past seven years.

Teens’ behavior is similar to how their parents learned to shop since 2008. That was when retailers pushed discounts. The idea was to get people to buy during the downturn. It helped draw shoppers. But it also got them to love deals. The change made it hard for stores to make money. That is because the discounts cut into the amount of money they made.

The shift is changing how stores market to teens. Normally stores’ promotions would end around Labor Day. Now they are making them go through September. They are also pulling together complete outfits from different brands in stores. It makes it easier for teens to buy different looks. And they are using social media campaigns to be more easily seen by teens. Teens no longer want to look exactly like their friends. They want to personalize their looks. That behavior makes it hard for retailers to influence specific looks. Retailers have to do more marketing to attract teens.

4 . 请认真阅读下面短文,并按照要求用英语写一篇150词左右的文章。

As global fast-food chains and coffee shops begin phasing out(逐步淘汰) single-use plastic straws, McDonald’s China introduced a “strawless” lid(盖子) for cold beverages at 10 Beijing restaurants on Nov.1,2018.

Like many consumers, Wu Yanmei, a bank clerk in Beijing, had never thought about the impact a simple straw could have on the environment. “Actually, I don’t like using straws, but the cups at fast-food restaurants are all designed for use with a straw,” she said. “I don’t think straws are necessary, so the moves are a good way to raise people’s awareness of not using single-use plastic products.”

However, Jiang Jianguo, a professor of environmental studies at Tsinghua University, said he doubts such activities alone can have a major effect on the global pollution problem.“I don’t think the move by McDonald’s will be a success because previously there were lots of hotels calling for a ban on single-use plastics, but it ended in nothing because businesses compete by trying to make things convenient for consumers, ” he said.

5 . 请阅读下面这段文字,并按照要求用英语写一篇150词左右的文章。

How much money should I spend each month? This is asked by college students at the start of every term, and it’s become a hot topic of discussion following a controversial online post. The post was about a college student who demanded 4,500 yuan for monthly living expenses from her mom, reported China Daily

In the post, this new college student explained that her school is in a top-tier city and that her expenses included skin-care products and new clothes. Her mother did not agree and “only” gave her 2,000 yuan.

The post started a heated debate. Some people came to her defense. Girls invest a lot in skin-care products and new clothes while boys invest much in shoes, latest electronic devices and equipment for games.

However, someone thinks 4,500 yuan is too much. According to a 2019 report, students in 15 cities spent more than 1,500 yuan a month on average. Beijing topped the list at 2,400 yuan, and Shanghai followed close behind at 2,300 yuan. In some cities, a parent may only earn a monthly salary of 4,000 or 5,000 yuan. Nevertheless, some students insist on buying Dyson vacuum cleaners (吸尘器) for their dormitories instead of common brooms. Others demand Apple laptops to study at Starbucks, instead of going to the library.
